George Bush Airport having been redirected here edit

Are there any objections to this? Hobbitschuster (talk) 12:46, 4 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

George Bush Intercontinental Airport - to merge or not to merge? edit

Swept in from the pub

I am fairly dispassionate about the subject, but apparently this was created some time ago as the barest of stubs and has not been edited much since. We should either expand this as best we can or merge it to Houston - what do you think would be the wisest course of action? Hobbitschuster (talk) 21:46, 1 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

I'd be happy to get rid of it, but I'm probably biased, because it's on my short list of airports to avoid. I wish its architects a trip from the Skyway train across their artistically narrow walkways with the low, transparent glass rails to the elevator while they have a bad case of vertigo.
What do other people think? WhatamIdoing (talk) 23:14, 1 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
w:George_Bush_Intercontinental_Airport states that this is the 10th busiest airport in North America by passenger numbers, so I would veer to 'keep'. Also frankly if it is such a bad airport as WhatamIdoing suggests, then surely it needs an article to help travelers deal with it? --Andrewssi2 (talk) 23:17, 1 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
It's certainly on the lists I recently analyzed for what it's worth. Hobbitschuster (talk) 23:42, 1 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Sure, keep it if someone is willing to expand it. If no one is, then merge it because it has no useful information, and is just going to annoy people who click through to it. There is better information on the airport in the Houston article. Ground Zero (talk) 01:36, 2 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure how important this is, but IAH has dropped precipitously in rank (on the mentioned list) since about 2007. Make of that what you want. Hobbitschuster (talk) 02:18, 2 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
I believe the traffic and connection metrics for airport articles are just minimum standards; if the information for the airport fits sufficiently in the city article, that's where it should be. Powers (talk) 00:55, 3 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Andrewssi2, an elderly friend of mine seems to be "dealing with" that airport by not visiting his great-grandchildren. It's hard to work around the physical plant. WhatamIdoing (talk) 16:53, 3 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
Is there no Amtrak service to Houston? I thought Phoenix was the biggest American city without intercity rail. Hobbitschuster (talk) 17:03, 3 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure whether to file this under the "big country problem" (we're talking about a distance that is significantly longer than going from the northernmost point of Denmark to the southernmost point in Italy, even though it's only halfway across the continent) or the "bad support for rail" problem (slow trains, poor connections, high prices, etc.). Whatever the source of the problem, he'd spend about three days in transit each direction, have to change buses and trains three or four times each direction, and it would cost at least three times as much as flying (as he would need a bed for sleeping). I would recommend that his young and mobile relatives to visit him instead. WhatamIdoing (talk) 21:08, 5 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Humble, Texas edit

Swept in from the pub

I need permission to add this town or someone else add to it? I have one listing so far, i guess I should have a sandbox? Anyway here it is. Sleep Inn & Suites Bush Intercontinental - Iah East, i looked up east Houston and found this listing. Thank you. Highjumpermsu (talk) 17:57, 12 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

We don't create article for just one listing. You can put it in Houston/North Houston. Ground Zero (talk) 18:31, 12 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
On a tangential note, Houston seems to be spelled Hjuston on Wikimedia maps. Am I the only one seeing this? I don't know how to address this. Nelson Ricardo (talk) 18:42, 12 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
No, I'm getting this too. Ground Zero (talk) 18:46, 12 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Ditto as well. SelfieCity may be able to fix it, but that requires some work on OSM. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 21:56, 12 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
It looks like it’s fixed now. Probably just a vandal. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 01:21, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Still looks wrong on my end, even after purging the page. Nelson Ricardo (talk) 14:04, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
I doubt this deserves an article, but probably add a link at Places with unusual names. Pashley (talk) 04:01, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Agree here. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 04:21, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Maybe redirect Humble to the North Houston page? WhatamIdoing (talk) 16:28, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
In my humble opinion (ba-dum tsh), we shouldn't be adding places that aren't worthy of their own article (or at least a listing within a destination article) to the 'Unusual names' list. This a travel guide, not an encyclopaedia of curios.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 17:13, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
Agreed. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 18:24, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
We do have some exceptions like Aaaa Rd, which can never turn into an itinerary and about 4000km from Sydney (meaning it's only a place for domestic tourism, not international). SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 21:54, 13 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
