I happened to come to this Wiki page on a colleagues suggestion and noticed that there were a lot of mistakes - both in the spellings and grammar of the article. So got down and fixed some of these.

The major changes that I made are as follows:

• Changed the formatting of the document and capitalised the words properly and also changed the bold text as and when required.
• Made quite a few grammatical changes to make the article more readable.
• Added all the links I could find and also did a thorough spelling and grammar check on the See section.
• Added all links that I could find in the Learn section.

Still have lots of editing to go, so will appreciate any help. Also, after editing, please add changes made to this page. Would make it a lot easier to review the content and enhance the quality of the main Pune page listing.

Linking content

Just wanted to know when should we add separate links and when should the text itself be a link? I saw the New York City article which is a guide article and they have used both at different places. Just wanted to clear some doubts, so that we could have a more consistent flow.

i've edited a fair bit

i've edited a fair bit of the article on pune and the listings are complete. i think that it deserves the status of a star, perhaps with a bit of more editing. i'm currently not signed in but my ID is upamanyuwikivoyage.

The edits are appreciated, but please be aware that there is now a procedure for awarding "Star status" that takes some time and involves significant consensus building. Making the Star assignment is premature until all that has been done. It is an informal term. Yes, Mumbai is the legal capital, but it is a city the British built. Pune, on the other hand, was the capital of a vast Maratha confederacy and is a pretty significant centre of Marathi art and culture. Libraries (Public/Private)?

Could someone post some information on Public/Private libraries in Pune. Learn listings

Not a single thing here is for the traveller. I'm going to torch the whole section. Pune University and Fergusson College are already listed in the See section, but the Learn section is supposed to be places that offer short classes that a traveller could do, right? Lots of copyright violations

I just removed some of the Understand section, the infobox about peths, and a lot of descriptions from the Get Out section because they were all copied verbatim from other websites (I listed which ones in the edit descriptions). In the case of the infobox, I compared the article histories, and that text existed on Wikipedia before it came here. In the other cases, Google searches of the text brought up other sites, many of them government sites, and did not bring up Wikivoyage, suggesting to me that their addition to Wikivoyage happened later. The area corresponding to the Districts actually contained information about the prominent suburbs and localities within Pune and hence I feel the terminology is incorrect. Have changed it to Localities / Suburbs.

Concerning Districts

I think this article has a lot of potential. I'm going to attempt clean . Should we divide the city into districts? I definitely think the districts listed are too many; if we district-ified the city we would need to merge several together. Making this follow a big-city template would also mean a lot of work moving the listings around. I'm of the opinion that there's a ton of content in the article, but I'm not convinced it deserves a big-city format. I'd rather hack at the district section and move some of the summarized content in to the "Understand" section (but mostly because I don't want to fuss with moving all the listings over to other pages :) ).

For those in favor of creating districts, where should we "draw the lines"? I'm not familiar with the city, so I wouldn't want to go making educated guesses at how to divide up a city. DethDestroyerOfWords (talk) 19:54, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

I would at this point not split into districts, the first task is to get the listings sorted out. Either add more detail, particularly location, or remove them. Although not a huge city it does take a long time to get from one part to the other (crazy traffic) and some of the listings are outside the main city so maybe a few districts could make sense at some point once the article in cleaned up. --Traveler100 (talk) 20:15, 18 March 2016 (UTC)

• In my opinion, there's no way a city of 3 million people can be ever classified as "small". The dynamic map shows me that it's very spread out geographically as well. I'm always in favor of keeping things as simple as they can be, and suggest we work to establish consensus on a list of no more than NINE districts (the Wikivoyage way). I don't know enough to have an opinion about whether this article should be districtified, but I'd like to point out that Karachi, a much bigger city, is not. There is relevant discussion at Talk:Karachi/Archive 2013#Merge separate district articles?. Also, Pune can use a Large City Template without being districted, if such a decision is made. Having thought it over, this will be my course of action: I agree with Traveler100 regarding a primary focus on the listings. As I clean the article up, I'll pay special attention to list items by ensuring they have addresses/contact info. If they don't, I'll move them here to the talk page. Since the district section already exists, should we perhaps add a style tag to the district section with comments about reducing/merging the number of districts to nine? Terribly sorry if I "plunged" too fast and too deep, haha. I recognize your concern about ensuring these locations are visible/reachable on this site for the reading traveler. My thought process was this: Some of the Sees seem very far away from the city. I certainly wouldn't consider something 100 to 160km away as part of the city of Pune. The closest fort/trek destination, Sinhgad, is a 29km drive, four destinations are between 50km and 75km drives, and the other destinations are well into the 100km range. I'm still deciding if those items would be better in the "Go next" section (the manual of style suggests that day trip ideas go there) or if they might be better as a subsection titled "Day trips" (or something similar) in the "Do" or "See", and then moving the similar stuff under "Hill forts" from the "Sleep" section into that. That would at least prevent them mingling with closer attractions and then we can call out that they are some trek away. When I edit stuff, I always try to keep the spirit of the original content and my intention was to put a paragraph about the forts and hill stations in the See section, I just didn't have time yesterday. I also think it would be a good idea to duplicate the fort and hill station section in the Western Maharashtra region article since, to me, it makes more sense to list them there. I'm not a strongly opinionated person and I'm new here, so if you have a better idea let me know and we can do things that way. DethDestroyerOfWords (talk) 14:34, 24 March 2016 (UTC)

Many of them I agree, should start to look at other location pages they could be added to. I would however consider

Sounds good! I've added Sinhagad fort back into the "See" section. I've also been working on the "Go next" section; I added in the two hill stations that were in "See" removal and then added distances from Pune to the destinations for many of the other ones. Perhaps later in the week I'll sort out where some of the further away forts and trekking destinations should be put and tackle that odd, almost itinerary, addition to "Sleep". I'm still mulling over how I want to incorporate the other "See" listings I temporarily removed, but lunch beckons. District section backup

Below is a district section that was removed due to a discussion on this talk page. If districts are determined to be necessary in future, we can work off of this content.

Districts

Pune, despite being considered a small city, is growing very fast. Its some prominent areas are:

• Aundh is in the north western part of Pune. It is a fast growing locality attracting IT and BPO companies. It is also the most convenient residential area for people working in Hinjewadi IT park.
• Baner The fastest developing suburb in the city nowadays located in western region. This area is close to Hinjewadi IT park and Shree Chhatrapati Sports complex. Most convenient gateway to catch Mumbai e-way from the city.

• Camp is the area which refers to Central Pune. At the center of Camp lies Bund Garden, Pune's largest green patch. Most of the corporate offices and upmarket shopping malls are located here. B T Kawade Road is centrally located residential area located near camp (Eastern Pune).

• Deccan refers to the area around the Gymkhana by the same name. It is the cultural district and houses numerous theaters, art galleries and cinema halls.

• Hadapsar is the eastern suburb of Pune. It is a fast growing locality attracting IT and BPO companies. It is also endorsed by the world bank for its development activities. Hadapsar is connected to the central city by the Pune-Solapur Highway. Hadapsar is also famous as the excellent location for the adventures paragliding. Thousands of national and international tourists come here, every year to experience he paragliding.[16]

• Kalyani Nagar is a fairly new and upcoming area located close to Koregaon Park having a multiplex and posh residential buildings.

• Kharadi is an upcoming area. You can see this suburb on your left side while coming to Pune from Ahmednagar. Once a sleepy village, construction is now going on in a big way here. This area is 9 KM from the Pune railway station and about 7 KM from the airport. Zensar Technologies is in Kharadi.

• Koregaon Park is located north-east of the Camp area. It is considered to be the poshest suburb and houses the city's best restaurants. Osho Ashram is here and one finds the maximum number of foreigners here.

• Kothrud surrounds both sides of Karve Road and the adjoining Paud Road. It has the highest density of residential complexes in Pune. It houses quality restaurants as well as shopping complexes and also has many well known Schools & Engineering Colleges. Chandni Chowk located at extreme west of Kothrud hosts a number of well known restaurants and pubs - including a 24x7 cafe. The City Pride Multiplex and the Yeshwant Rao Natyagruh are located in this region.

• Lohegaon is a suburb of Pune. The airport is located here. It is connected to Viman Nagar and Kalyani Nagar via the newly constructed VIP road.

• Magarpatta City is the largest IT park SEZ located in Hadapsar. It is home to companies like IBM, Amdocs, ZS Associates, Avaya, eInfochips, Cerillion, JohnDeere, 'Sybase an SAP Company', EXL Service, Aviva, EDS, Principal Finance, Mellon, Patni, Honeywell, ADP, Capsilon, Accenture,Capita, Reflexis, SAS, Teradeta, Zensar, Synechron, BNY Mellon and Mphasis.

• Mundhwa is an upcoming area. The famous Magarpatta Township is just adjoining this village.

• Pashan is in the western region of Pune and only 4 km away from the Pune University. It is an extremely beautiful and pleasant part of the town on account being surrounded by hills. The Pashan lake in this region is very beautiful - especially in rainy season. Being a pleasant, calm and quiet area, it is highly suitable for residential purposes. Pashan also houses the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Necklace Park and the Balaji temple.

• The Peths are a cluster of little neighborhoods that constitute the old part of town. Most of the lanes in this part of the city are narrow and one can find many street vendors sell snacks on the sidewalk.

• Pimpri Chinchwad is an upcoming township at the outskirts of the city. It is at a distance of 18 KM from Pune railway station. A proposal to call it "New Pune" was struck down due to a large number of controversies. With its quick access to Hinjewadi (IT hub of Pune) and Talawade (upcoming IT hub of Pune), most of the IT professionals prefer to stay in this area.

• Shivaji Nagar also known as "Bhamburda" as per old city records, has a central bus stand and rail stop. The E-Square Multiplex is located here.

• Viman Nagar is another part of Pune developing extremely quickly. It is mostly a residential area with a handful of good restaurants. Some IT companies have come up in this area recently due to the development of the Gigaspace IT Park.Phoenix Market City Pune ,Pune's Biggest Mall with Worlds Leading Brands and has one of best Food Courts in the city.

• Bund Garden. This garden is also known as the Mahatma Gandhi Udyan. It was built by Sir Jamshedji Jeejeebhoy, on the right bank of the Mula-Mutha to provide the poor with water during summer. Main attraction here is the evening boat rides, horse rides etc. The garden is famous for Bhel-Puri and Pani-Puri. It is situated on the Airport road and very close to the Camp area. 
• Katraj. A famous Jain Temple and a Snake Park are located here. 
• 1 Sinhagad and Khadakwasala. This is a fort nearby which is a beautiful place to see. This is also a historic place in King Shivaji era. Khadakwasala has a dam and this place is famous for natural beauty around. A lot of folks flock here during rainy season. 
• Taljai, Vaghjai Hill temples. The Parvati, Taljai and Vaghjai temples are situated on a hill. A forest covers the entire hill and it is managed by the forest department. It takes about 2 hours to finish the journey through this deep forest. 
• Tribal Museum. Located off Koregaon Road to the east of Pune City Stn, this unique museum houses interesting artifacts from the Sahyadri and Gondhwa regions of Maharashtra.

• Chateau Indage Winery, Narayangaon. A pleasant 80 km drive through toll roads and ghats. The Chateau has a good restaurant as well.

Beaches near Pune

Diveagar is among few beaches of konkan. It is approximately 160 km away from Pune. It takes around 4 hours to reach there from public transport, if you are taking your own ride then it will take around 3:30 hours. This is a very beautiful beach. It is a small village surrounded by greenery. It is better to go for two days (one night stay). Good veg and non veg food is available. Don't forget to have veg food of Mr Bapat. His speciality is Modak, a traditional Indian sweet coconut dumpling.

A nice place to stay at Diveagar is Ameya Cottage, which is located near to the Bus Stand.

Rajmachi can be reached by 2 ways, the tough route from Kondivade village near Karjat and the other easy but long way route from Lonavala. In rainy season this place is filled with giant waterfalls and greenery.

Mumbai to Pune taxis is a relevant as Pune airport has few international flights. Even flying from Frankfurt people may still fly to Mumbai then get a taxi. It is an interesting, if you are not too nervous a passenger, drive too. Sort of what I was trying to say. For get in I want a taxi from Mumbai, but even so I would order a driver from Pune to pick me up, not use a Mumbai taxi. Also chances are the traveller will want to return at some point to fly home. • Ande Ka Funda, Paud road. The only place for eggeterian. Serves 26 egg items.
• Godbole's Suswaram (Kothrud, near bedekar Ganapati). Very good Maharashtrian snacks like Khichadi, pohe, vada pav, sheera. Also serves very good lunch.
• Tawas and Tandoors(non-vegetarian), Has combos of chicken/mutton/fish curries and dal(lentils)+parathas;biryanis;tandoor snacks on offer at very reasonable prices.
• Steamy affair, JM Rd (between Balgandharv and Deccan Bus stand). Serves steam idli, fried idli, veg idli, corn idli, kutti idli, pepper idli and dahi idli among the 15 varieties. The speciality is the varaya idli which is served exclusively on Thursdays and Saturdays for people who observe fast. Another unique type of idli served here is the kadhi idli. Spicy chutneys served along with these sumptuous snacks make the dish even more interesting. All the idlis are ₹12-22.

Recently added tour

Rangan Datta Wiki has listed the following tour that I have removed following Wikivoyage's guide at WV:TOUR. I want to know the reason for its inclusion in this article.

• 1 Pune University Heritage Tour. 2nd and 4th Sunday of every month starts at 11 am. The curated walk takes visitors inside the main building complex, which was built in 1871 and served as the summer residence of the Governor of Bombay. Building was designed by James Trubshaw and was modeled in lines of Prince Albert’s Osborne House on the Isle of Wight, while the bell tower was inspired by Giotto’s Bell Tower in Florence, Italy. The interior consisted of a grand ballroom which has been converted into an auditorium. The dining room today serves as a seminar room. In spite of the adoptive reuse the interior is mostly kept unchanged and still contains the antique furniture and chandeliers. The building also houses a museum with exhibits from history, geology and anthropology. Weapons from the 19th-century Maratha armory are also on display.The most interesting part of the Pune University heritage tour is a 300-foot-long underground tunnel that once connected the kitchen. Note: The notice appears on the Savitribai Phule Pune University website on Friday and there is no need for a prior booking and participants can simply drop in at the venue at 11:00 am. Dear Sbb1413 went through the WV:TOUR guide lines. The tour is operated by the Pune University which obviously has a "real world" office with a phone number and address. It is a direct tour of the campus operated by the university. I don't think it violates the WV:TOUR guide lines. Is there a 'fee' or 'donation' requested for the curated walk? Is the tour something that cannot be done without a guide ?

I do not immediately see where this violates the guidelines, if it's an official tour run by the institution directly.

Naturally of course, Wikivoyage should be avoiding anythign that looks like touting for commercial operators.
