Hello, 90.244.151.58! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Wikivoyage:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub.

By the way, have you considered creating an account here? While you can absolutely keep contributing as an anonymous user, it promises a bunch of benefits, and no obligations.

Thanks for your fantastic additions to articles about Dagestan! However, I seriously question your deleting all safety warnings from the Makhachkala and Derbent articles. Maybe they don't or no longer need big warningboxes, but shouldn't something be in a "Stay safe" section? I unfortunately haven't had the chance to visit Dagestan, so I don't pretend to speak with any expertise on current conditions in the republic, but most articles for cities throughout the world need something in such a section.

All the best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:29, 2 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Please create an account and you should do what Ikan Kekek tells you to do; it'll be great help to the Wikivoyage community. Wikivoyage needs people like you; kind, helpful people; like Ikan Kekek, Ground Zero or ThunderingTyphoons. Happy Editing! TravelAroundOz (talk) 09:27, 4 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, TravelAroundOz. Just to clarify, in case of any ambiguity: We invite you to create an account, but you're under no obligation to do so, and thank you for your continuing great contributions! Ikan Kekek (talk) 13:02, 4 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
No worries Ikan Kekek, but for the IP, but I'll openly admit I also edited for several years without logging in (on Wikipedia). Its why I'm a little more experienced for a 40 day (ish) old user. TravelAroundOz (talk) 20:31, 4 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
I also edited Wikivoyage for a few years before I registered. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:45, 4 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
I see I am not alone :) TravelAroundOz (talk) 11:33, 5 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
90.244.151.58, thanks for that summary of the security situation in Dagestan. I don't personally know anything about current conditions there, but it sure looks good to me, minus some light copy editing that I or someone else will do later. Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:01, 6 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the advice User:TravelAroundOz, I already have a Wikimedia account but unfortunately I'm currently unable to edit Wikivoyage while I'm logged in. — AC

I'm just amazed by your fantastic work on Dagestan. Thank you! Ikan Kekek (talk) 02:43, 16 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Thank you IK, I didn't expect I'd ever be able to amaze you, so I'm delighted you appreciate my contributions to Dagestan and related articles. Many articles in the Caucasus haven't been edited much since the WT fork, so I'm glad I can make a difference. — AC

Blocked

edit

Since I can't comment at user ban nominations, posting it here as alternative placeholder. Would be great if a registered user could link it. Thanks.

Trying to keep it concise in a few bullet points to avoid stirring up more "drama" as TT called it.

  • I'm very aware that I overstepped boundaries back in 2018, and I too regret it had to come this far. As much as I would want to, I can't undo what I wrote. I am sorry my actions then offended and/or hurt members of our community, IK in particular. I understand some things cannot be forgiven.
  • I was blocked from editing my own talk page almost 3 years ago, and at the same time blamed for not issuing an apology or engaging in a dialogue. Is it a surprise one stays silent after being forcefully silenced in every way possible?
  • To those who still accuse me of malicious intent: why not come forward with evidence? For 2020 alone, there are 1000s of edits to Austria, Spain, Costa Rica, the UK etc. to choose from. If none of these edits are found to be malicious, what's the point of trying to tarnish my reputation and discredit my contributions over and over again? I recognise my past mistakes, learned my lesson, and take great care to keep any and all contributions as neutral as possible.
  • I still believe the traveller should come first. Deleting useful content, regardless of who contributed it, violates that principle. Is taking revenge on a contributor for a 3 year old dispute really more important than the interests of our readers?
  • Yes Dagestan is a Muslim country, but that did not bias my contributions to its articles in any way. I'm not an anthropologist, but to the best of my knowledge the information in those articles is accurate and unbiased. If you think otherwise then nothing stops you from rewriting the Stay safe and Respect sections. I invite anyone to join me in improving the Dagestan articles.

I would also much prefer to resolve this ongoing dispute rather than see the same discussion pop up over and over again every few months. — AC

Done. We could have resolved this years ago if you had accepted the indefinite block and abided by it.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 17:30, 17 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Thanks TT, I appreciate it. — AC
I am glad that you now express your apology, but not doing it back then is difficult to repair. You did write quite much on your user talk page, avoiding any kind of sincere apology, as was repeatedly pointed out. I am not going to search for evidence now, but I am pretty sure there was enough evidence cited in the threads back then, not perhaps of malicious intent, but for the things you were blocked for. As I said on the user ban page, I think I have said what I have to say on this matter. –LPfi (talk) 17:58, 17 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
Or, ehrm: You did not even now apologise for what you did, only for others getting offended. So no, I do not want to join you. –LPfi (talk) 18:04, 17 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
I find this way too defensive to be a real apology, and I also don't think you offended me more than several other people, plus we have no way of knowing how much you offended people who read and didn't post about it and thereby defamed the site. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:20, 17 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

This is the discussion page for an anonymous user who has not created an account yet, or who does not use it. We therefore have to use the numerical IP address to identify them. Such an IP address can be shared by several users. If you are an anonymous user and feel that irrelevant comments have been directed at you, please create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other anonymous users.
