APTA

edit

Hi, Kattimattinen, and thanks for being helpful by adding APTA links to United States of America and articles for a bunch of U.S. states, but I question whether linking to an advocacy organization's site is really in keeping with what not to link to and also question why it's really relevant to link it in multiple articles. If you are visiting a given state, you presumably want to know relevant details about any local rapid transit or bus systems in specific cities you're visiting, and those details should be covered in articles for the cities in question, with links to the local transit organizations. I think these links are good candidates for deletion, at least on the state level, but would like to hear your point of view, as I realize it can be a bit deflating to put time and effort into things and see that work go up in smoke. Hello, my intention was to give information for cases when more detailed information about public transport was not available in cities and regions pages. APTA has also information about long distance public transport in each state, also companies which are not mentioned yet in Wikivoyage. The other option would have been to pick these companies and add them directly to Wikivoyage pages for states, but if changes would occur, those information would be again outdated, it is why I thought that a link to updated page would be better. Kattimattinen (talk) 04:35, 3 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
The other alternative is to add it to city and district articles. Why is it a good idea to add information about local transit systems at the state level? Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:49, 3 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
I see. APTA has information also of long-distance coach companies which offer services in each state. I would like to add the local transport agencies to each city and district page, but they are so many that I thought that if someone else wants to do it, I would like to provide this link for information source. If you know where to put this link for those who want to improve local transport information in Wikivoyage, please tell. I can then remove those links from state pages. Maybe Talk-page for each state or something like that? In Vermont I added the information of county level transit agencies to subdivisions of Vermont (Northeast Kingdom, Nortwest Kingdom, Central Vermont, Southern Vermont). Is it alright? Kattimattinen (talk) 05:38, 3 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Yes, that's fine for country transit agencies. I think that for long-distance bus companies, it's really best to provide the names and websites of the companies in question in articles for states, but also as relevant to city articles. Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:42, 3 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Okay, thanks for advice. Kattimattinen (talk) 05:45, 3 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Sure thing. Thanks for your work to help travelers! Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:03, 3 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Transfers in Helsinki

edit

Content that is duplicated over several articles easily gets outdated in some of them (and changing it everywhere is tedious, especially for those who have to do it manually). Better to try to have any piece of information in one article and direct users to there. People coming with ferry via Helsinki should read Helsinki's Get in, so that's the place to put info on the transfers. I did an edit, which you might want to check and perhaps improve. –LPfi (talk) 10:18, 12 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Alright, thanks for advice, I will look at it. Kattimattinen (talk) 05:44, 13 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Let's go taksi

edit

The number you used for the listings is for the office, in office hours. For booking, the numbers vary by city, mostly very expensive, see Savonlinna#By taxi, where I fixed it. –LPfi (talk) 15:59, 19 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Alright, I can check them and fix when necessary. Kattimattinen (talk) 16:53, 19 June 2022 (UTC)Reply
Fine, thanks. –LPfi (talk) 17:33, 19 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Uber

edit

Please don't add Uber to a zillion of pages. It is easy for anybody to find the right page for a specific location, so the URL adds very little value. If there were an assessment on how Uber compares to other taxis in the city or region, then perhaps, but the a priori policy is to list a company on just one page. It might make sense for it to be on country pages where it has a significant market share, but in every city and province – no! Please revert those edits. If the listing is worthwhile in some place, then please add info to make it useful. –LPfi (talk) 19:14, 29 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

OK, I might have stumbled over the worst ones first. Sorry. Still, for a listing, there needs to be more than the URL and a notice on its presence, especially for a company like Uber which is hardy unknown. It is also mentioned in Finland where the entry could be amended if it is more usable nowadays. –LPfi (talk) 19:21, 29 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Numerous national parks

edit

In Päijänne Tavastia and South Savonia you wrote:

"known for its beautiful nature, with numerous lakes, forests, and national parks."

and:

"numerous national parks, such as Linnansaari National Park and Kolovesi National Park".

What national parks are there in Päijänne Tavastia other than Päijänne National Park, and in South Savonia other than those two (and part of Repovesi National Park)?

I hope you could be more careful, so that other editors wouldn't need to check and correct your edits.

Kristinestad

edit

I reverted your last edit of Kristinestad. You claimed that the city was founded by King w:Charles IX of Sweden, who died in 1611, while the city was founded in 1649. The Wikipedias in English, Finnish and Swedish say it was chartered (or that the charter was signed) by Per Brahe the Younger during the rule of w:Christina, Queen of Sweden. Per Brahe's wife was also a Christina (Christina Catharina Stenbock).

I know that there are often oddities and confusions regarding such historic information, but your claims still seem odd; I would like to have some evidence.

You seem to have added Understand sections to several articles about Finland. What kind of sources have you been using? Specifically, what is your source for the addition to this article?

LPfi (talk) 17:27, 30 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Seems Wikipedia knows nothing about the World War II battle (which doesn't mean it wasn't possible, but I don't know why the Germans would have been there). You also claimed that Kauhajoki was on the front line. See my rewrite. –LPfi (talk) 17:39, 30 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I do appreciate that we now have these Understand sections, but at this stage you need to explain where these oddities come from. Otherwise it is difficult to trust any of it, and they might have to be reverted. We cannot have articles with gross misinformation (such as the WWII front having been in Ostrobothnia). Sometimes the problem may lie in language nuances: in an abstract sense Kauhajoki might have been on the front line, but the physical front line was far away – and the former does not help if readers interpret it concretely. Using some more words to clarify the sense would help. It – and sources – would also help others like me, who are trying to verify the correctness.
