Hello, Purplebackpack89! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. Whittier

edit

I fixed the Whittier table-of-contents problem you mentioned in the Traveller's Pub. The problem arose because some of the <buy> tags in the article weren't closed with a matching </buy>; this seems to break the contents list. Dave.Dunford (talk) 16:23, 17 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thank you Purplebackpack89 17:40, 17 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Los Angeles

edit

Thanks for your cleanups and additions to the various Los Angeles articles. The potential for having a great guide to the LA-area is huge, so every improvement is greatly appreciated. -- Ryan • (talk) • 05:27, 20 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

My pleasure. Expect to see changes regarding the Los Angeles Eastside in the near future. Purplebackpack89 06:12, 20 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
I commented on Talk:Los Angeles but I'll comment here too - please don't get toooo hasty with moving articles around and redistricting LA - work needs to be done, but sufficient discussion needs to happen first on the talk pages, and a consensus reached. Thanks! – cacahuate talk 23:42, 21 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

United States

edit

You reverted this addition [1], but haven't yet joined the subsequent discussion on how to instruct our readers in how to write on the front of an envelope. I'm about to redo the edit, so please join in if you wish to comment. --Inas (talk) 19:58, 31 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Template:Disambiguation

edit

May I ask what you were trying to do with Template:Disambiguation, and why? LtPowers (talk) 18:52, 17 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Your revision is broken. The way you've got it, Template:Disambiguation can't be used as a template because of the excess explanation of usage. The explanation of usage belongs, and has been at long before I made my edit, at Wikivoyage:Disambiguation. The rest of it is already at Template:Disamb, so I redirected it there. There's nothing wrong with my edit, just because you see a minus in the change column doesn't mean it should be undone. As such, I have undone your edit. Purplebackpack89 21:34, 17 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Actually I believe that the old version was correct. The template is invoked via MediaWiki:Newarticletext to pre-populate article types and was used as the template for creating new disambiguation pages. Redirecting it causes the wrong text to be pre-populated when creating a new article. -- Ryan • (talk) • 22:35, 17 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Purple, I do wish you would try to learn a bit about what you're doing (like, say, reading the talk page of the template in question) before assuming I'm an idiot who doesn't know what I'm doing. LtPowers (talk) 01:45, 18 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
Why should I do that? You act as I'm an idiot who doesn't know what I'm doing, why shouldn't I do the same Purplebackpack89 01:22, 19 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
I don't believe I've done so, but I apologize if you got that impression. I do think it was extremely intemperate of you to reinstate your change after being reverted, however. LtPowers (talk) 01:44, 19 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Banners

edit

Hi there!

Just so you know, the images we use in our banners here on Wikivoyage need to have a dimensions ratio of 7:1. Sorry to jump in and remove the image - I hope you don't mind! If you want to find out more about our banners you can check out the relevant expedition here. :) --Nick talk 18:52, 15 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi Nick, you're one of the member at Banner Expedition. You could crop the banner image rather than removing it again. --Saqib (talk) 19:13, 15 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
I think I fixed it Purplebackpack89 19:15, 15 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
Well done! --Saqib (talk) 19:16, 15 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for not doing it myself! It was just a quick edit on the go earlier (was a bit tied up!), but if you hadn't managed by this evening I'd have done it for you. I just wanted to sort it out before you were told off! Well done on managing to do it yourself! :) --Nick talk 19:27, 15 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

El Camino Real‎‎

edit

Thanks for starting the El Camino Real‎‎ article - it's a great subject for an itinerary article. Having lived in California for 15 years and having driven most of that route, I somehow had no idea that it connected all of the missions. I look forward to seeing how it develops. One request - if you wouldn't mind, as you're developing the article, if you notice any of the missions are missing or need updating in the corresponding city article, could you add/update them as you did with Carmel (California)? We probably have most of them listed already, but I suspect there are some that need to be added or would benefit from having details updated. Thanks! -- Ryan • (talk) • 17:08, 5 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sure, no problem Purplebackpack89 17:22, 5 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
I also want to thank you for starting this article. I'm excited to watch it develop. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:15, 5 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi there. I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I don't know what the perfect model to follow would be for this particular itinerary, but I think you've got a good start going in your user space there. Maybe have a look through some of our other guide itineraries and star itineraries for some ideas. Keep up the great work! Texugo (talk) 21:46, 11 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Re: Removal of routeboxes from Los Angeles

edit

I did offer a justification for removal of the routebox several months ago at Talk:Los Angeles#Routebox, so why don't we continue the discussion there? Although I will say here that the difference between our LA article and the NYC, Chicago, and SF articles is that those city articles are confined to the city, while the LA article covers the entirety of Los Angeles County, a region with literally nearly a hundred individual cities and districts, so I don't think it's a very apt comparison. PerryPlanet (talk) 00:23, 11 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Additionally, I've have never seen one example of a routebox on a region page. Could you show this to me? PerryPlanet (talk) 00:35, 11 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
@PerryPlanet:: On the other hand, I can't think of an article that is both a city and a region, which is what the LA article is at present. By virtue of being a city article, it should have the routebox Purplebackpack89 03:41, 11 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

Nomination for front-page feature

edit

Hi, Purplebackpack. I want you to know that I've nominated El Camino Real for a feature as Featured Travel Topic of the month. No-one has commented on the nomination so far; perhaps you'd like to comment. Thanks for your wonderful work on the article! Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:54, 6 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Did I put the "when to travel" info in the right place? (It's the edit with the summary something along the lines "I think this is where it goes?)
Looks fine to me. I don't think there's a standard place to put that in itineraries. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:05, 7 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Your signature

edit

Hello, would you be willing to update your signature? The use of the depreciated/obsolete font tag is no longer recommended as they are not HTML5 compliant and obsolete tags are one of the tracked syntax issues here on Wikivoyage.

The following is an HTML5 compliant equivalent to your current signature: <b style="font-family:Verdana">[[User:Purplebackpack89#top|<b style="color:#3A003A">Pur</b><b style="color:#800080">ple</b>]][[User talk:Purplebackpack89|<b style="color:#991C99">back</b><b style="color:#CC33CC">pack</b><b style="color:gold">89</b>]]</b>
and displays as this: Purplebackpack89

Thanks and best wishes, Zinnober9 (talk) 13:47, 21 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Zinnober9: Have I fixed it now? Purplebackpack89 18:22, 21 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
