Keltenmuseum Hochdorf an der Enz

Hi Soshial!

It was great to see you starting to contribute to our article on Baden-Württemberg! As you might have noticed, your addition of Keltenmuseum Hochdorf an der Enz has been reversed by User:Ikan Kekek. This is because we put all attractions like museums only in the bottom-level articles, e.g. articles on towns and cities that do not have any further divisions.

If Hochdorf an der Enz is a destination, i.e. it is a town or village with more tourist infrastructure than just a museum (most importantly, with some accommodation like a hotel), then perhaps you may want to start that article, link it from the appropriate region of Baden-Württemberg and put the museum there.

If the museum is a larger open-air area and Hochdorf an der Enz does not qualify as a destination due to lack of other tourist infrastructure, please discuss this in Talk:Baden-Württemberg and I am sure we will find a solution! PrinceGloria (talk) 03:27, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

Copyright policies

Hi. I just reverted your edit in which you put uncredited copypasta from Wikipedia and possibly Wikitravel into the Baku guide. Please read Wikivoyage:Copyleft and Wikivoyage:Wikivoyage and Wikitravel to understand why that's not OK. And next time you copy text from Wikipedia, make sure you edit it to the non-encyclopedic specifications of this site. Removing footnote numbers is the very first step in that process. Ikan Kekek, I thought that both Wikivoyage and Wikipedia have the same license. Why can I not copy from to another? What do you mean by "make sure you edit it to the non-encyclopedic specifications of this site"? Soshial (talk) 20:58, 12 December 2015 (UTC)

You legally can copy from one site to the other, but Copyleft requires crediting the original site in your edit summary. See Wikivoyage:Copyleft#Things for users to know. As for the other point, Wikivoyage is not an encyclopedia like Wikipedia, so there is content that belongs there and not here (and vice versa). If you would like more information about that, read Welcome, Wikipedians. Take particular note of the "Content sharing" section. Copyright again

Hi, Soshial. Regarding this edit, I've had to reword one of the sentences you added, as it was found to be copied from here. We can't copy content word-for-word from other sources because that content is copyrighted. Please read the whole of Wikivoyage:Copyleft because it seems like you haven't since the last time this issue was raised on your talk page. Can you please confirm whether the rest of the edit is your own work, or whether it has been copied from elsewhere?

As a side note, we don't put inline links to Wikipedia articles in Wikivoyage. We do often have links to Wikipedia within listings, however. Please bear that in mind for future reference.

Kärdla description in Hiiumaa article

Good morning, Soshial.

Since Kärdla has its own article, the kind of detail you just added about it in the Hiiumaa article would normally go in the Kärdla article, with only a brief summary left in the Hiiumaa article. However, is it your opinion that the article about the island should not be a region article but that the Kärdla article should merge with it? If so, please start a thread at Talk:Hiiumaa to discuss that. In the meantime, though, I'd suggest moving some of the details you added to the Kärdla article and leaving a 1-liner listing in the Hiiumaa article.

Ukraine

Hey, started a thread on the Europe article talk page about the status of Russian in Ukraine. If you know the situation, perhaps you can comment on it. The last thing we'd want is for tourists to offend people in Ukraine by speaking Russian, if the language situation is politically charged. The dog2 (talk) 18:59, 21 May 2021 (UTC)

@The dog2, I live in Latvia and Georgia so I am not the person to write about the situation in Ukraine. But out of dozens of Ukrainians I met abroad, almost none wanted to speak Ukrainian to me to train my Ukrainian — all of them switched to Russian unfortunately. Pozdrawiam, @Zezen! I have been travelling around Poland as a tourist for 2 weeks and I tried ATMs of around 7 different banks. If there is another one that allows feeless withdrawal, I would be happy if someone edits/adds the information. Soshial (talk) 08:08, 1 September 2021 (UTC)

1. Ta for this background, Soshial. Well, if you add info, then it should be objective and verifiable. Do check in Reliable Sources if it is the only bank or remove: otherwise it looks like a promotion of a particular brand.

2. Think also of my other proposal:

adding info about virtual currency exchanges (walutomat), just opening an account, SWIFT transferring to a local friend's one

3. FYI, myself, as a traveller, I have had a collection of free French, Irish and USA bank accounts some years ago, for this purpose, some of which proved very handy later on. (Also as I love researching bureaucracy, standing in the local queues and interacting with such institutions F2F: more fascinating and educational than visiting local tourist traps aka packaged tourist products, IMHO.)

I can see, that you may be more knowledgeable than I, so I wouldn't mind if you improve my statement. I agree it sounds promotional. SWIFT transfer is always costs some money (from my experience), so maybe you were thinking about SEPA transfer. SEPA to a friend might be an option, but only for a small fraction of tourists, but we might mention it. I know nothing about walutomat — sounds like it is worth mentioning in the article. Currencies again

Soshial, I am trying to understand your coding for updating the currency box for the Georgia article. I see that it picks up currency values from Wikidata, but it does not look like it updates them automatically. Yes, @Ground Zero, I update those values from time to time, but I hope that someone would come up with a simple bot, that would do it, based on data from ECB or mid-market rates like xe.com. Soshial (talk) 13:25, 2 January 2022 (UTC)

It's up to you, @Ground Zero. But I definitely like Wikidata approach way more than keeping currency rates' values buried somewhere in Wikivoyage templates. Soshial (talk) 16:16, 2 January 2022 (UTC)

I've taken another look at it. Updating wikidata looks a lot more complicated than updating the currency box in Wikivoyage. It's fine as long as you are willing to do it, but if you leave the project, then we have to hope that someone else takes on the work.

If I convert other countries to this model, and then leave the project, what are the chances that someone else will update the Wikidata parameters for all those currencies? There are other editors in Wikivoyage who update the currency boxes, though. Ground Zero (talk) 13:21, 5 January 2022 (UTC)
