More merging

I think the area surrounding Copenhagen is very messy, I would propose creating two new disticts in Copenhagen.

• Nothern Copenhagen Covering the northern part of Storkøbenhavn, from Østerbro to a ring of Farum, Holte, Søllerød and Vedbæk including Lyngby,Charlottenlund, Klampenborg and Skodsborg
• Vestegnen covering the south western part of Copenhagen, from Frederiksberg to a ring of Ballerup, Herlev, Taastrup and Greve (including Ishøj)

Vestegnen is incorrect. Vestegnen does not start at Frederiksberg at all, but after Valby and Sydhavnen. It includes the following areas: Albertslund, Ballerup, Brøndby, Gladsaxe, Glostrup, Herlev, Hvidovre, Høje-Taastrup, Ishøj, Rødovre, Vallensbæk

And in the Get out section list, and get some good articles on (and limiting work too)

• Humlebæk for Louisiana
• Helsingør Kronborg (merging with Nivå)
• Nordkysten a regional article covering the beaches and towns on the northern coast (merging with Hundested)
• Fredensborg for Fredensborg slot (including Nøddebo)
• Hillerød Frederiksborg slot
• Frederikssund For the Viking games
• Roskilde Roskilde Cathedral, Lejre and the Viking ship museum
• Køge For the old town and Vallø castle
• Malmö for Malm¨hus etc.

And then merging anything else in the north eastern part of Zealand, into a good Zealand article

I have no problem with that. But i still think a North Copenhagen district with Hellerup, Emdrup, Farum, Holte and Vedbæk or Klampenborg as it's corners - is the way to go. help wanted: place to stay for a couple with a baby

Maybe this place can help with recommendations?

I am looking for a hotel to stay with my wife and a 4 months-old baby in Copenhagen for New Year (something like Dec 28-Jan 7). The key thing we are looking for is "a place pleasant to spend many hours per day". We always loved family-run small pensions and villas with distinctive character and charm--and it would be great if we can find a hotel of no more than 100 rooms (10-20 rooms is even better). However, if there's a huge chain hotel where someone had really wonderful experience of spending much time with a baby--it would be also appreciated. The budget we are thinking is something like 800-1000DKK, if we understand the prices right. Hey Denis. Since I live here i don't really stay much at Hotels. But the warm owners of the tiny (16 room) Hotel Rye, always comes with the warmest of recomendations - although, the bathrooms are shared, it doesn't seem like that much of a deal, since it has a feel of staying in the owners home - it's hard to beat in terms of uniqueness and atmosphere.

If you want something a bit more upmarket, Hotel Fox is cool, stylish and personal, and i have heard good things about it. If you are looking for something else, please let me know, and I'll try to sort you out. Also if you need a local guide one of the days, give me a shout, and i'll be happy to help, if I can make it fit. Thanks, Sertmann--your recommendations are great, you actually read my thoughts :-) Maybe only several things that I can add:

• it's my first time at Copenhagen, although my wife spent about 3 days there, several years ago
• as we'll move around with a stroller, it'd be ideal if we reach most of the sights by foot, and to be able to return to the hotel at a short notice :-) -- so living in the downtown is the best option. In this sense, Hotel Fox is excellent
• as for character and feeling, it's difficult to describe... Hotel Fox is bit urban and over-hitech/anime, uhm, cold?--more for younger people (iPod generation, you know :-) Rye looks personal, but may be on the other end of the age range, more for 50 years+? I mean, something more warm, personal, cozy than Fox (but not a grandma(?) style as Rye) would be just perfect.
• pitifully, private bathroom are essential when you stay with a young baby--as you need to visit it multiple times per night
• (and of course, EUR120 is better than 160EUR, but life is not always fair :-)

As for breakfast, don't expect it to be included unless explicitly noted somewhere - and DON'T expect warm breakfast. Except maybe for eggs, Danish breakfast is very much bread based - white bread with cheese or jam and Danish, is the most typical - typically served as a buffet. • House of Colors: I have stayed at House of Colors twice. The first time in 2002 when Gitte Kongstad was the proprietor and the second time this past summer (2009) under new ownership. Although the new owner is not as friendly and passionate as Gitte was, House of Colors is still a fantastic place to stay. It is 2 or 3 1 bedroom apartments w/ a full kitchen, dining table and a small living room. There is also a nice garden with tables and free use of old but serviceable bicycles. Within easy walking distance is the main beach, The Amager Center shopping mall with 2 grocery stores and other shops and the main street Amagerbrogade which has many small shops and restaurants including a great takeaway pizza joint run by Italians called Massimo [4] The place is approximately 3 km from the town center. Walkable but a bit far to say it's an easy walk. There is a metro stop 100 meters away and frequent bus service. Christianhavn is a bit closer (1 to 1.5 km away) about halfway into the town center. But in Copenhagen, riding a bicycle is the way to go. Bike paths are everywhere and take you anywhere you want to go safely and quickly. Plus, when riding, you feel like a local and are inspired to ride all over the city and see things you never would walking or taking mass transit. I believe their website has been shut down and they are using facebook as their point of contact [5] Make sure you book early as they fill up quickly.

I've noticed that a number of attractions listed (see Art for example) have been separated out of their bullet points, and that all relevant information, location, opening times, contact phone numbers etc. has been removed. Apologies, I was used to finding all of the relevant information on the main page, and hadn't realised that it had since been sub-divided by district. There's an awful lot of text in the article, so it's easy to miss the link to the districts if you're only browsing one sub-section. Infoboxes

OK, this might be a bit specific for the pub, but I'd like some comments on the use of info boxes as I seem to be breaking the standard on some of my district articles

• Copenhagen/Indre By
• Copenhagen/Christianshavn
• Copenhagen/Northern suburbs

I don't think I've turned the article into something akin to wikipedia, which seems to be the main concern - the function is mainly to separate out content, that don't really warrant it's own article, but don't really mix well with the main content either. Christiania in particular is a special case, since it's essentially a city within the city, but doesn't offer sleeping options - and doesn't have enough content (as of now anyway) to work as a separate district (same case as the Vatican I suppose).

I'll sweep this into the Copenhagen talk page once I've gotten some comments, and please don't worry about the images on the Christianshavn district, They're there merely as a place holder, until I finish up the article.

My take is as follows. The Tivoli infobox is appropriate, though I do think it should be trimmed down a little more. The Christiania infobox would work better as a district article of Copenhagen-- the "must-have-a-place-to-sleep" rule doesn't have to be rigid when it comes to districts with plenty to see, do and eat. The Mølleå river infobox could go either way-- if there is enough interesting information to be added it could potentially make an itinerary article. Credit Card

Since I am lazy, can someone mention that credit card without embedded SIM card or PIN code does not work in Copenhagen, I've been there twice in 2008, very few stores are willing to accept my Master Card or Visa Card. (Excepts on the shops in Stroget the tourist area), simular experiences in Malmo, Roskilde, Helsingor, Hillerod. Luckily it's a nation with low crime rate on tourists, I always ended up carry lots cash, but with every meal cost about 200 Kr in the restaurants, buy transportation fare on cash, I ended up have to run to bank all the time. It is very strange, I talked to customer services on both Visa and Master Card, they said this is not possible and should be accepted, but it is. (WV-en) Kyle 10:10, 8 January 2009 (PST)

Denmark is pretty unique since the entire system is build around a unrivalled domestic card, the Dankort, which is universally used for domestic purchases - the card are usually a double issue Dankort/visa, where the visa part is only used abroad. Because of this the system is build up differently than in other countries, and this means - yes - pin only, and pretty much that other cards than visa/mastercard is only accepted very few places. However you should be fine at restaurants as they use swipe terminals, but that is pretty much the only place you can get by without a pin. (WT-en) Stefan 15:01, 8 January 2009 (EST)

It's spreading like cancer in Europe, but pretty much unknown elsewhere. Looking at my recent travels, it was ubiquitous in Finland, very common in Ireland, and unknown in eg. America still does not issue chip and pin and in fact many American cards are issues without a PIN at all, particularly business cards (presumably to stop people withdrawing cash with them). Unfortunately more and more places in CPH are switching to using the new black and red boxes that can only be used with a PIN. The clerk will have only two options - to let you enter the pin or to cancel the transaction. You used to be able to buy tickets from DSB (the train company) using a PINless card, but now they have also changed (late 2009).

I was really hoping no one would notice :) There is no established national standard for the Danish currency; Kroner/Kr/Kr./kr/,-/DKR/DKK are all used to varying degrees in local shops, but online DKK is almost exclusively used, so personally I think it's the one that makes most sense to use here. --(WT-en) Stefan (sertmann) ^Talk 18:06, 15 May 2009 (EDT)

I just checked through a lot of other Scandinavian cities, and NOK,SEK,ISK and EEK seemed to be used in all of them, maybe it comes natural, as a way to distinguish what sort of kroner/kronor we are talking about. Someone seems hell bent on introducing inaccuracies around the Copenhagen article; introducing false exchange rates and inflating prices unrealisticly, also it seems like the weird .com -> .co.uk changer guy is back. Swept in from the pub

OK now, the Eurovision Song Contest, the biggest live television event in Europe, is starting in Copenhagen TODAY (and will last for a week), with thousands of tourists arriving to the city already in its best season. Our articles on Copenhagen and its districts were once a paragon of high quality, but by now have sadly fallen behind and could use a little brush-up. I will be working on those all through the week and perhaps beyond it, also updating and researching what can be done on the spot once I arrive (I am the backing singer for Luxembourg this year - just joking). I could use some help on that though, as the amount of work is massive, so if you have some spare WV time on your hands and have not decided what to spend it on, here are a few proposals on what you can do:

1. Copyedit - some of the articles accrued a fair share of offhand comments, poor formatting and other sediment and need a good copyeditor's hand. You don't need to know Copenhagen at all to do this, moreover, you can learn about the city while copyediting
2. Add photos - we do not have as many nice photos of Copenhagen in the Commons as I'd wish (the weather in the city can often not be very conducive to taking nice pics), but still, we use precious little of even what we have. It is hard to get a good idea of what to expect from Copenhagen and the particular districts now, so I believe we should scour the Commons (and the CC-licensed photos of Flickr) and try to illustrate the POIs and other stuff our articles cover.
3. Update public transportation data - seems a bit tedious, but if you are planning on going to CPH, this can be worthwhile for yourself, and certainly adds a lot of value to the travellers. Movia's website is easy to figure out and doing a bit of research is a great way to wrap your mind around the city. We have to check ticket pricing, but also the line numbers, stops etc. and add/update info on how to get between certain parts of the city and POIs.
4. Update hours, prices and descriptions - many POIs were last added in the past decade, and their hours, prices etc. may not be correct anymore. Moreover, some of the descriptions are woefully inadequate. This is not hard and you can add value by spending just a fe minutes on research and editing.
5. Add coords and Dynamic Maps - CPH districts used to have brilliant static maps, but those maps got outdated as new POIs were added and some got closed, and now they are no longer relevant to their articles. While the dream thing would be for somebody to update the static maps, the more realistic expectation is for us to start updating the coords of the POIs and add Dynamic Maps while keeping the static variant as an option for those with JavaScript turned off.

To do any of the above, you do not have to know Copenhagen. This is all common-sense and actually exploring stuff may be a cool way of getting to know the city and inspiring oneself to visit it one day. The information is amply available online and the trouble is not with finding it, but rather with the sheer manpower required to put it into articles. The city is already well districtified and articles organized, so it is more about a lot of small tasks than a paramount piece of work requiring lots of conceptual thinking.

PS1. This year it is far from horror, we were discussing in the enormous queues to B&W Hallerne with people from other countries how there is nothing to laugh about anymore, almost all songs are good.

PS2. That said, tonight's interval acts are embarrassing and prove the Danes have little idea about what is sense of humour, so you may skip that and take a loo break (I saw them yesterday in the dress rehearsal).

PS3. I don't root for Poland actually, I hated the song (it got popular before it was even considered for the ESC), but people here seem to love it. I root for the Netherlands, as the song is great and every reason to visit the country is good. But I guess we may be going to Vienna (the Wiener takes it all), which would be a good reason to give our guide a few finishing touches!

I think you'll find that most people outside Europe are largely unaware of the scope of the Eurovision phenomenon, even if they're aware of the contest itself. Whatever people outside or inside Europe may think of Eurovision Song Contest, it surely DOES draw a major influx of tourists to a city that hosts it, both during, before and sometime after it. Therefore, we certainly should take note and make sure our articles on Eurovision destinations are up to date. We now have a year to brush up Vienna (which has had much done recently, but is a truly huge city with many districts and countless POIs, so needs a lot of attention and work still), and there is still work to be done regarding Copenhagen. Furthermore, I don't find the discussion of Eurovision to be impertinent at all: my reading of it is that we're trying to determine, given that there are huge swaths of the Anglosphere that have little or no interest in Eurovision, how high a priority sprucing up host cities' articles on English Wikivoyage should be. Cities that hosted Eurovision say that they experience a surge of at least 60% in the number of visitors when they host Eurovision, and those are almost exclusively leisure travellers (and not e.g. business travellers going on a short business visit who would have much less interest in our guides). They also see sustained interest in their city due to extensive media exposure in the year they host. Usually, tourist infrastructure sees a major update and expansion when the Eurovision is planned to be hosted in a city, and thus our guides could use an update anyway. This is not very good. "Northern Suburbs" ? (Nordsjjælland covers the entire of north-east Zeeland). Valby station is located at two different locations ! (south of Frederiksberg, but als west of Frederiksberg; suppose Vanløse was meant by maker.
