Talk:Kassel

Latest comment: 7 years ago by Ikan Kekek in topic Kassel Library

Hello everybody!

I do like the new World Heritage Park called "Wilhelmshöhe" really - but there is much more in Kassel to visit. And Kassel is green, much greener than it seems if you look at the big, black building of Schloss Wilhelmshöhe (especially without the green foreground of the original picture). Therefor i have edited and uploaded the panorama that had been suggested by Celsius. I hope you like that too. --NatiSythen (talk) 18:42, 4 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

-- Pedelecs (talk) 18:53, 4 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Too many images

edit

On my browser, the last 4 images are beyond the end of the article. Which ones should be removed? Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:45, 29 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

you must have browser set to full size on a wide screen and very small text to get that. --Traveler100 (talk) 20:51, 23 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
Nope. Not a wide screen and not small text. However, this is no longer June 29, 2015, and someone obviously took care of the problem some time ago. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:04, 23 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Redlinks towards the end of the article

edit

Please have a look at this section. Now I have never heard the name of any of them, except one (that one being Bad Wildungen, about which I know nothing except that Dieter Nuhr was once fond of making fun of it). Maybe they are all rightfully famous locally (I am not from Northern Germany, after all), but just listing a bunch of redlinks in my opinion helps nobody in my humble opinion. Now this could be resolved in any of several ways and just removing the redlinks would of course be the fastest but not necessarily the best way. We could instead create articles on those places (provided there is enough to fill them) or consolidate them in some way or we could just put a line or two next to them while either retaining the redlink or removing the link. As I said, I am open to any solution and also open to be proven wrong, but the current red sea seems suboptimal to me... Hobbitschuster (talk) 20:24, 23 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

What needs to be done to get this article "feature ready"

edit

So User:Feuermond16 has said he (I am assuming male) wants to get this article featured in time for the next documenta, which I take will be in 2017. I think it might be helpful to try and find which issues remain in particular and which are not as important. From a glance the following things have caught my attention:

  1. The "get around" section could use more detail and subheading (e.g. "by tram", "by car" "by bike" and so on)
  2. The documenta as the main draw of Kassel (at least during the time it happens) could be elaborated upon more and a more detailed mention in the lede and/or the understand section could not hurt
  3. The amount and selection of pictures seem to be a problem (see above)
  4. Some listings have had problems formatting correctly. This should be fixed.
  5. Someone who is a native speaker of English (or at the very least someone whose first language is not German) should have a look at the prose of the article to fix wordings that sound a bit "holprig" (sorry for the German term) or might be misleading or difficult to understand.
  6. If I understand the talk section above correctly, someone was unhappy with the banner used back then. Has this been remedied? If not, maybe it should.
  7. Something should be done about the galleries, as discussed in the pub

I think those are the main points for now, but more may of course arise at a later point and I hope other users could aslo chime in. Best wishes and thanks a lot to User:Feuermond16 for their good work so far. Hobbitschuster (talk) 17:58, 8 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Pro. Thanks Hobbitschuster. -- Feuermond16 (talk) 16:37, 2 May 2016 (UTC)Reply
Firstly, Dankeschön for your work on the Kassel article so far, I look forward to it being nominated and featured next summer (this is when the documenta event takes place, right? The event's dates are missing in the article...).
There are still a couple of things to do before that. Get around really should be expanded, also I think Eat and Sleep ought to be divided into price classes (Budget/Mid range/Splurge).
Concerning the listings, sorry for being blunt, but please have a look at listings in a couple of other city articles — the descriptions should not be written in italics and I'm also not so sure about the setup with the br-tag, Haltestelle image and so on — this info is possibly better put in the "directions" parameter of listings. Listing in Kassel doesn't format right

edit
Swept in from the pub

Can you have a look at the listing for "Grimmwelt museum" in our Kassel article? It seems to not format correctly for some reason... Also, what's up with the italics in the main body of the listing text? Hobbitschuster (talk) 19:18, 28 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

I managed to fix it somehow. Side note: italicizing the description and adding a public transportation icon like that isn't, I believe, really in line with our manual of style. ϒpsilon (talk) 19:28, 28 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
There is a known bug with the listing editor that triggers when the "content" section of a listing contains brackets, pipes, and equal signs (Wikivoyage:Listing editor#Bugs and feedback). It's unusual for listings to have those values, but it looks like several museum listings in the Kassel article meet that criteria and thus will break when edited. Removing the icons from the listings ([[File:Zeichen 224.svg|15px]]) or else moving them to a template (like Template:Food-icon) should be viable workarounds until the listing editor is updated. -- Ryan • (talk) • 19:38, 28 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
On another note, the user in question wants to get Kassel featured in time for the next documenta (which I think is a good idea, though unfortunately the only thing I know about Kassel is traffic jams and ICE delays passing through), but it seems that a native speaker would have to look over (some of) the language, as there seem to be some mistakes and I am not always sure what the right way of putting it is... I am not sure they have a point. Will those articles be created? If not, any reason not to remove the redlinks? Do those articles have enough content to stand on their own or would they be better served by being sections of "go next"? Hobbitschuster (talk) 15:47, 5 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

To Guide and DotM/OtbP

edit

So as AndreCarrotflower (talk · contribs) points out, this article is not yet rated guide. I am confident this is not due primarily to defects of this article but at least partially due to nobody taking the leap in upgrading the status. So please, let's make a list of what are the biggest issues so we can address them. Hobbitschuster (talk) 00:42, 8 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Instead of making a list of the article's faults, we could just plunge forward and fix them. I've fixed the italics problem that was identified a year ago. No-one did anything about it even though it was listed as a problem. As the saying goes, "if you want something done right, do it yourself." Ground Zero (talk) 03:06, 8 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. Hobbitschuster (talk) 03:20, 8 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Kassel Library

edit

I recall from my graduate school days that the Kassel Library has a lot of Medieval music manuscripts. I believe it's the w:Kassel University Library I'm referring to. Most visitors won't be looking at old manuscripts during their trip, but it's probably worth a "Do" listing. Ikan Kekek (talk) 15:55, 8 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
