AmyCutie
Hello AmyCutie! Welcome to Wikivoyage.
To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page.
If you are a Wikipedian then you may notice some differences in policies and the style of our articles. These include:
- NPOV → be fair (not quite the same thing!)
- be bold → plunge forward
- Village pump → travellers' pub
- External links → We do not use a separate external links section, but incorporate primary links only into the text itself.
- sandbox → graffiti wall
- stub tagging → Article status
It may also be very useful for you to check out Wikivoyage:Welcome, Wikipedians. If you need help, take a look at Wikivoyage:Help, or else post a message in the travellers' pub or on my talk page. Thanks for contributing!
Thank you very much for starting and adding content to the article on Nsukka!
Please have a look at Wikivoyage:Small city article template. I reverted this edit because the deletion of required section headers that should be filled in with information makes an article a stub. Also, give a thought to which information is most relevant to travellers. It's not part of Wikivoyage style to include sentences like "It has an estimated land mass of 17.5 square miles" or "In 2006, Nsukka had a population of 309,633." Approximate population (such as 320,000, 325,000 or whatever) is useful, though, if you can find a more recent estimate.
You might want to look at some star-level articles to get some feel for what Wikivoyagers look for in articles on this site. You can see them at Category:Star articles.
Finally, don't hesitate to ask questions, which you can do by replying below.
All the best,
Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:00, 5 June 2021 (UTC)
Hi AmyCutie, let me add my Welcome to you. It is wonderful to see Nigeriacarticles being improved so much. I think that travellers will really benefit from the information being added to these articles. Do try to keep in mind that we are writing a travel guide, so we want to include only the information that will be useful for people visiting a place. Lists of primary and secondary schools, for example, might be appropriate for an encyclopedia, but they aren't places that travelkers are usually going to visit. Exceptions might be made where a school is an important architectural monument, or played an important role in a historical event. Most schools won't meet this test though.
Please ask any questions you might have. We're here to help. Ground Zero (talk) 15:27, 6 June 2021 (UTC)
What does not get an article on Wikivoyage
editUser:AmyCutie: Thanks again very much for adding so much content on Nigeria! However, keep in mind that some of it is more relevant to Wikipedia, an encyclopedia, than to Wikivoyage, a travel guide. Universities never get their own articles on this site, but if they are of architectural interest, they can get a "See" listing in the article for the city where they're located, or if they're mainly interesting for events open to the public, they can get a "Do" listing; if they are interesting mainly for students spending up to a year abroad in an exchange program, they can get a listing in an optional "Learn" section (but they normally would be fully listed with a listings template in only one section). So I've deleted the article you started on University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
Please let me know if you have any questions. I stand ready to help you in any way I can.
All the best,
Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:43, 6 June 2021 (UTC)
- Also, please be careful not to copy content from other sources; Abakaliki looks just about OK at the moment but there is quite a lot of text similar to another website, so please do not copy from non-wiki sources. Thanks. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 19:52, 7 June 2021 (UTC)
- Again, to reiterate, after what you just did, uni's don't get their own articles on Wikivoyage. There's not a single article for a uni; including Oxford and Cambridge. Leave me a message on my talk page if you need help, but please don't create articles for uni's. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 08:54, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
- And stop creating articles for hospitals as well. They are not notable for an article, and hospitals don't have articles on wikivoyage in the first place. I think this is the third time someone has told you not to create articles that don't meet the criteria. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 09:47, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
- With regards to airports, I'm not sure Akanu Ibiam Airport deserves its own article. Granted that I've never been to Nigeria, so I might be ignorant here as to the status of the airport, but as a general rule, only major airports with a significant amount of connecting traffic get their own article. If Akanu Ibiam International Airport is a small airport with only a handful of international flights and little connecting traffic, then that information should just go into the Enugu article under Get In. The dog2 (talk) 15:11, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
- As well, bus stations, like Ikeja Bus Terminal, never get their own articles. Please read through Wikivoyage:What is an article?. --Ypsilon (talk) 15:50, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
- In addition, have a look at Wikivoyage:Airport Expedition for a rough guide on which airports should get their own articles and which should not. If in doubt, you can always ask any of the senior editors here, and we'd be happy to give our opinions. The dog2 (talk) 17:03, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
- For continuing to recreate the article Ikeja Bus Terminal in spite of our warnings (such as the one from Ypsilon above at 15:50 — you recreated the article over a redirect at 16:22), I have blocked you from editing the Ikeja Bus Terminal article from three days. Since you're doing constructive work elsewhere, I'm not blocking your sitewide editing privileges for now. I would recommend that you only contribute to existing articles until you have read and understood WV:WIAA. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 20:05, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
Block
editHi. I've blocked your editing privileges for one day to get your attention. We need you to read What is an article and stop creating articles for hospitals, universities and other non-destinations. However, you do retain the ability to edit this page, so if you've read this and the previous messages on this page and the links you've been given, just say so below and any administrator reading this will end your block early. But keep in mind that wikis are collaborative projects, so it's essential to pay attention to messages on your user talk page and to edit summaries whenever someone reverts any of your edits. I hope this block will be brief and we won't need to do this again. Thanks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 11:15, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
Hi, good day. I'm sorry for trying to create articles that are out of scope on wikivoyage. I really meant no harm. I'm new in wikivoyage unlike Wikipedia that I've been working on. Onnce more, I'm really sorry, please pardon my ignorance of the rule I defaulted. Thanks, God bless. AmyCutie (talk) 16:48, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
- Amy, thank you for replying to Ikan Kekek. I have removed the block, so you can go back to editing. We do very much want your contributions. Everyone makes mistakes when they first start editing. It us how we learn. I ask that you pay attention to the comments we put on your talk page -- this is another good way of learning. Bless you, too. Ground Zero (talk) 17:30, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
- It's also not just new users who make mistakes. I've made the mistake of creating Darwin International Airport, even after being on wikivoyage for months then. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 21:55, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
- AmyCutie, thank you for working with us, and it's quite alright and expected for new users to make mistakes. Just keep working with us. God bless you, too. Ikan Kekek (talk) 02:30, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
- Amy, sorry to start this discussion again, but bus terminals don't also get their own articles. I've tagged Ikeja Bus Terminal for speedy deletion. These sorts of articles would go in Wikipedia, but not here. Take care, SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 00:29, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
- Just letting you know that Ground Zero has just deleted the article. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 01:11, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
- Also, FYI, User:SelfieCity has blocked you for 3 days due to your creation of the bus terminal. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 04:50, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

Good day, just saw your message. I'm so sorry for this mistake. Sincerely, it was a harmless one. I really do passion for working with wiki and I keep learning and improving by the day. Please kindly unblock me so I can continue working. Thank you and God bless 🙏🏾 AmyCutie (talk) 11:07, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, I'm not an administrator, so I don't have the power to unblock you. @Ikan Kekek: - since you're the most active admin this hour, can you please take the request? SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 11:09, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
- SelfieCity has now unblocked you. Feel free to edit now, but a word of advice, usually, when you create an article, there's a couple of templates available at the top of the page. Just click on the relevant one (such as Large city, or National Park, or whatever). SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 11:17, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
- Done, but the block was only for the one article (which is now deleted) and not contributing sidewide. It was largely to prevent further disruption to the article as it was currently under vfd discussion. During the block AmyCutie could still have edited any other article. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 11:14, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
- Wait, there's a block for specific articles? SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 11:23, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, it’s called a partial block. If you try to block someone, you should see on the page listing options including one you can check for an individual page of the website titled “partial”. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 11:28, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
- I just had a little look at what it'll be like, which is something like this.

- SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 11:33, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
- Correct. I’ve only used it a couple times but find it can be a better alternative to outright blocking if the issue is limited to one particular article. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 11:53, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

Copying text from Wikipedia
editOne thing to note, in Akanu Ibiam Airport, it looks like the "Understand" section is copy-pasted from w:Akanu Ibiam International Airport with a few minor adjustments to text. Please rewrite this information in a way that is original and link to the Wikipedia article in your edit summary. Thanks! --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 23:19, 8 June 2021 (UTC)
- Also, just a tip, if you need to attribute text from Wikipedia, enter the code {{Wikipedia|<replace this with the article name>}} at the top of the talk page. No signature is required or anything --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 09:24, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
copyright violation of Okomu National Park
editHi Amy, just wanted to let you know that I've had to delete chunks of text from the article due to a copyright violation. There's also a discussion about this on the pub about this, and you are more than welcome to comment about this. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 00:52, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
- Also, @SelfieCity: has also said that this could be a speedy deletion candidate. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 01:11, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
- I think we should try to save this article instead. AnyCutie, do you have any other information that you can add to this article? For example, what is the nearest town? How would a traveller get to this oak? Are there any lodges or camps there?
- Also, please don't copy text directly from other websites. That can cause legal problems for Wikivoyage. Ground Zero (talk) 01:56, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
Please don't remove other people's comments.
editHi Amy, please don't remove other people's comments like you did in Talk:Lafia in this diff. Removing it just makes the discussion hard to follow and is uncourteous. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 08:13, 14 June 2021 (UTC)
A couple of things please...
editHey there Amy, I, Ikan, GZ and SelfieCity have been continually fixing up these errors, and we ask you to this:
- Use ₦xx and not #xx or xx Naira. This is per Talk:Nigeria and if you want to change it, start a discussion there
- Get in and get around headings go like this:
==Get in=== (or get around) xyzabc ===By plane=== xyzabc ===By car=== xyzabc and so on..., they don't have to be in a particular order though
- 3. Please respond to messages on your talk page and talk pages if you are pinged. This way, we know you're aware of the discussion, and it's also good karma to.
- 4. Wikivoyage is not an encyclopaedia of institutions (although I know some other editor also had added it to Minna, just please take note of this)
- 5. Make sure coordinates are rounded off to 4dp. One makes the map look crap, and OSM isn't great at reading human minds,
Also, please respond to us, so that we know that you've read this. After all, wiki's only work if you respond to messages and it needs to be done collaboratively. Also, we're here to help you whenever you want, we just want you to do the following in future. All the best! SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 11:02, 18 June 2021 (UTC)

The opening of the Nigeria café
editDear AmyCutie, we are exited to open our new Nigeria Café, open to all. It is a place for the users of the Wikivoyage:Nigeria Expedition users to collaborate, ask for help, make announcements, make initiatives and most importantly celebrate article related celebrations. It is also a place for you to ask general questions, and an experienced user or an admin will be sure to answer the question and possibly teach more on how Wikivoyage works.
This is also meant to be on top of the Wikivoyage:Nigeria Expedition, which is also meant to help us improve our Nigerian destinations. If you haven't already joined, feel free to join, and it is never too late.
So be sure to check out Wikivoyage:Nigeria café

Encyclopedic content and citations in Oguta Lake
editThank you as always for your impressively dedicated work! However, I remain concerned about your use of encyclopedic content which I fear is copied and pasted from other sources.
I'll call attention to this passage:
"Oguta Lake has a mean depth of 5.5 m and a maximum depth of 8.0 m, with a water surface area that varies from 180 ha during the dry season to 300 ha during the rainy season. The water level fluctuates over a scope of 2.7m between these two seasons. The lake contains 258 types of phytoplankton in 107 genera (Omin, 1983)."
First, this is encyclopedic content, and most of it is unlikely to be of interest to travellers. The one sentence that seems interesting to me, though not essential, is that last one. However, the type of citation used here is correct for a university or scholarly paper, not a travel guide. If you are quoting directly, please stop, and delete everything that's copied and pasted from other sites as soon as possible. On the other hand, if you are summarizing in your own words, you should cite your source - and cite it specifically, because no-one understands this out-of-context citation of a name and a year - in an edit summary or on the article's talk page, not in the article. You might have a look at Wikivoyage:Copyleft and Wikivoyage:External links to review how content from external sources may and may not be used on this site.
Here's another passage with less serious issues, but it strikes me oddly:
"The other three (3) sources of inflow of the lake are Awhana, Utu and Orashi."
Why do we need the number "three" to be represented in two ways? I can't think of a good reason.
All the best,
Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:21, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
Good day. The article in question was not originally created by me, i only improved the article, thus the fisrt and and passages were not my work except the last, that is, "The other three (3) sources of inflow of the lake are Awhana, Utu and Orashi." I will quickly make ammends by removing the figure 3 Thanks, nice day ahead. —The preceding comment was added by AmyCutie (talk • contribs)
