Welcome

edit

Hello, Zblace! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub. New users are also welcome to post any questions or concerns to the arrivals lounge. If you are familiar with Wikipedia, take a look over some of the differences here. If you want to contribute with information about the place where you live, see Wikivoyage:Welcome, locals.

I have removed the external link from your latest edit to Rijeka, while keeping the text addition, because we have a fairly strict external links policy. If you have any questions, please let me know. --ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 10:14, 5 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Airport articles

edit

Thanks for adding Weeze Airport to Wikivoyage:Airport Expedition, but did you look at Wikivoyage:Airport Expedition#Article criteria? If you do, you'll see why tiny airports like that do not get their own articles on this site.

Best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:57, 18 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for input @Ikan Kekek. From what I see this is fairly old regulation and it likely served its purpose best at the start when few airport pages existed, but now I see it as artificial limitation an think it should be changed. I am low cost and spontaneous traveler,so for me exactly this data is needed the most and is the least available. --Zblace (talk) 07:58, 20 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
See Wikivoyage talk:Airport Expedition (& its archive, linked at top right) for the discussions that led to the current policy. If you want to change the policy, start a new discussion on that page. I think the chance of change is quite slim; it would be crazy to have articles for dozens of tiny airports. Pashley (talk) 08:12, 20 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Pashley so you are saying Italian and German Wikivoyage are crazy and only English can make good judgement? Interesting. --Zblace (talk) 11:59, 20 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
de and it.voy have their own policies regarding airports; no one policy is objectively better than another, but on en.voy, we follow en.voy policy as mentioned on Wikivoyage:Airport Expedition. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 12:13, 20 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm not saying that & this is not the place to talk about it. Pashley (talk) 12:52, 20 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
It is obvious they do. I doubt there is such thing as 'objectivity' around these things. I am not saying that you should stop having policies, but that they should be updated and remarks about craziness are not beneficial for anyone. --Zblace (talk) 15:02, 20 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
Try making that argument at Wikivoyage talk:Airport Expedition, but be aware that that argument has been made before and shot down. In the meantime, you need to follow existing en.wikivoyage guidelines, and if you don't, your work won't stay up. The standard is, if an airport can be covered easily in a "Get in" section of a city destination article, it doesn't get its own article. Ikan Kekek (talk) 15:20, 20 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Ikan Kekek if you ever used Weeze, Franfurt-Hahn or similar airports, you would now it is not easy to Get OUT and stay on it in case you fail to connect flights. Anyway I am focusing on incubating HBS Wikivoyage and prioritize airports that people from my region use and care for in Europe. --Zblace (talk) 16:11, 20 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
What is HBS Wikivoyage? Anyway, are you willing to accept that each Wikivoyage has its own guidelines that should be respected? Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:19, 21 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Ikan Kekek are you being idiosyncratic or perceiving me as instigator that should be disciplined into established norm? If you did not get to Google or Meta search then this could be best link to inform oneself https://incubator.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Wy/hbs#FAQs -- Zblace (talk) 12:14, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
? It's normal to ask users who seem to be resisting existing guidelines whether they are willing to follow them, anyway. As for HBS, it was already explained to me what that stands for. Ikan Kekek (talk) 20:19, 23 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Berne

edit

Hi, may I ask why you're changing the content of the Berne article from English to, is that Croatian? If you want to translate something or otherwise try out stuff you can create a sandbox in your userspace or try the Wikivoyage:Graffiti wall Ypsilon (talk) 10:36, 13 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Sorry @Ypsilon mixed up taps I had opened and now reverted. Zblace (talk) 10:43, 13 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
OK! :) Ypsilon (talk) 10:48, 13 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Minimal use of images

edit

This is another policy some other Wikivoyages don't have: Wikivoyage:Image policy#Minimal use of images. Have a look when you get a chance, because the Zadar article is starting to look like an Eyewitness guide, with an unbroken stream of images on the right margin (plus a centered image that I decentered), and that's not the style envisioned for this site. We've previously had discussions about this at Wikivoyage talk:Image policy (at least some of which are in archives of that talk page now), and so far, a consensus is behind the idea of having a certain number of pleasant and instructive illustrations but leaving people interested in seeing more to go to Commons, etc.

All the best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:06, 10 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
