Images with writing on them
editHi, Renek78. I know there's a policy against having photos with people's names or other stuff like that written on the photo. I can't find a reference right now, but I know that's Wikivoyage policy. Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:55, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
- Sorry, Ikan Kekek. I did not mean to undo your removal of the pictures. I guess I accidentially modified an older version of the page. Should be fine again now. --Renek78 (talk) 19:22, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
- Not a problem. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:42, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
Mapshape for Buenos Aires does not work
edit- Swept in from the pub
Hi all, me again with an issue with Mapshape. Just now I am fooling around with an overview map of Buenos Aires. Coloring the districts via Mapshape works great, but unfortunately I am not able to grey out everything behind the city boundaries. The code is supposed to look like this:
I also checked the OSM relation - it seems to be a closed contour. Any ideas, what is wrong there? Thanks again! --Renek78 (talk) 11:43, 12 May 2017 (UTC)
- If you were to add type=geoline to the Mapshape template, the output would show that the line created is not closed - top right on map (coordinates needed to create a polygon have to be complete or closed). -- Matroc (talk) 17:25, 12 May 2017 (UTC)
- Matroc With Geoline I can see, that something is open at relation Comuna 13. In OSM though it is closed and fine. Recently somebody messed around with this relation in OSM and someone else reverted this edit. Maybe we just need to wait a few days until it is fine again. Thanks for your help. —The preceding comment was added by Renek78 (talk • contribs)
- That has happened on a few occasions such as all the water area around Sydney Opera House disappearing. Hopefully it will be fixed soon! -- Matroc (talk) 00:47, 16 May 2017 (UTC)

Dynamic maps without Wikidata items
editHi there, thanks for the message on User talk:Shaundd/Dynamic Region Map. I saw your comment in the Pub first, so I left a response there. If you want more detail on the process, let me know. Cheers -Shaundd (talk) 06:48, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
Moving hotels in Singapore
editHi,
I saw you have been doing a lot of work recently on some of the Singapore articles. Thanks for that, those are really huge improvements.
I saw that you have been moving some listings around which where in the wrong district. Generally I think that is a good idea, but there is one case where I would like to revert your move. You moved two hotels from Singapore/Riverside to Singapore/North and West. Now while the two hotels are technically in the area which we designate North and West, I would argue that they belong to the other article. They are still pretty close to the river and in my opinion fall into that same group of hotels as all the other ones along the river. North and West is a sort of collection of everything outside the city centre, and as such in my opinion should contain hotels outside the city centre.
Let me know what you think.
BTW, if your motivation for the move was that there is not enough hotels in the North and West article, then I can think of a couple other ones to add to that article.

- Hi, thanks for fixing the coordinates on the Bugis article just now. I saw that the map suddenly looked funny but didn't realise it's because I entered the coordinates wrongly. Drat70 (talk) 08:22, 20 September 2017 (UTC)

Recent changes to Manhattan districts
editHi Renek78, I noticed you recently shuffled a number of listings between Manhattan districts. Looking at the changes, it seems like you were aligning listings with the mapmasks you added -- but those mapmasks don't match the current district boundaries shown on the static maps. Was there a discussion to change Manhattan's district boundaries to align with the boundaries in OSM? I don't see one but wanted to check with you. Cheers -Shaundd (talk) 02:00, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Shaundd, this is our usual dilemma. Stick with 6 years old maps, which are outdated and never get updated or change to a dynamic map with a slightly different district setup and always up-to-date maps. I have not discussed it, simply plunged forward. The main issues arose in Gramercy Flatiron. This district goes up north a lot more than on the static map - even includes the Empire State Building now. The rest of the districts are actually very close to the dynamic maps, I would say. --Renek78 (talk) 08:59, 12 August 2018 (UTC)
- Sorry for taking so long to respond, been very busy. I disagree this is the usual dilemma. We can create a dynamic map without a mapshape. Plunge forward even calls out region and district changes as something to be careful about, particularly on high profile articles or where there's been previous discussion about district boundaries. Dividing geographical units also says "use caution, consensus, and collaboration when possible". When I have a moment, I'll open a discussion in the Pub, but my opinion is the district changes should be undone unless there is a consensus to align them with neighbourhood boundaries in OSM. -Shaundd (talk) 15:33, 24 August 2018 (UTC)
- Hi Shaundd, maybe I was a bit too quick in changing the article. I guess you are right and we should discuss the issue. Thanks.--Renek78 (talk) 17:21, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
- I don't even see the need for mapshapes at all when the static map is clear. Whichever changes should be made can be requested. Sorry to say, the dynamic maps are ugly compared to the static maps in Manhattan district articles and less clear, and we surely don't want to waste space by having 2 types of maps on these pages. Trains that are faster than planes
editYes, it is indeed faster to take the train on many routes as the airport isn't most people's final destination and you have to show up early for a flight. Compare for example NUE-TXL where Eurowings threw in the towel since the train takes only three hours... Hobbitschuster (talk) 15:03, 15 September 2019 (UTC)

editNice start! I did various small edits; see what you think of them and edit them at will. I look forward to watching the progress of this article!
I should say, I think it's probably Usable and not a Guide yet, because it needs more descriptions, but keep working and it'll soon be a Guide.

A point about copyleft
editHello. Thank you for sorting out the listings on the Mayfair / Westminster border, making sure they're in the right article.
When you move listings between articles in future, rather than writing "Moved from another article" in your edit summaries, it would be better to write e.g. "Moved from London/Westminster". This is because each article credits all its contributors in the edit history, and so in accordance with our copyleft licence, those authors are still creditable if there's an edit summary that points to their original location. For the same reason, any third party who reuses Wikivoyage content is supposed to credit the original page they took the content from.
I hope this makes sense. All the best, ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 15:00, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks, ThunderingTyphoons!, gonna keep that in mind! --Renek78 (talk) 20:13, 29 December 2020 (UTC)
