June 2019 Votes for deletion archives for July 2019 (current) August 2019

File:Baltimore pennstation banner EDITED.jpg

This banner was locally uploaded but originally came from Flickr, according to the file page. It has been cropped to not include a statue that would make it a non-free image; this page banner is not used anywhere on Wikivoyage, with the exception of a VFD discussion. Additionally, according to the file page, "This image has not yet been reviewed by an administrator or reviewer to confirm that the stated license is valid." The tag was added when the page was created in 2014. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 19:46, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Delete or Transfer to Commons. The non-free aspect of the image has been removed so it could now be hosted on commons, with the description altered to make clear that it has been edited, but it may not be worth the effort. AlasdairW (talk) 20:08, 30 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: It seems the original image was copied from Flickr and the licence was never confirmed. As the image now is gone from there I do not know how we could confirm it ever was published under the claimed licence. Thus, I don't think it would survive a VFD on Commons. It is also very doubtful that it would be in scope there unless we use it as banner. --LPfi (talk) 20:35, 30 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I hadn't checked Flickr, but now see that the link is broken, so I am deleting the transfer suggestion. AlasdairW (talk) 20:16, 1 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Template:=

Seems to just be an equal sign which can easily be found on a computer's keyboard. It's used on a few pages but I assume could easily be replaced. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 02:30, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • Delete. I can't imagine how it could be useful. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:12, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Such templates are sometimes used for characters that have a special meaning in the wikitext (or URL or whatever) syntax, and how to use it as a normal character is non-obvious. Here I think using the template is less obvious than the regular escape methods. Moreover the cases where "=" is special are confined to contexts normal users wouldn't touch (templates with complicated code?). --LPfi (talk) 08:21, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • If you come accross something such as {{infobox|header|text with some {{=}} signs in it}} and you replace the template use with just an =, then don't forget to add a 2= for the infobox parameter as well: {{infobox|header|2=text with some = signs in it}} otherwise it will not show the infobox text as expected. -- WOSlinker (talk) 11:09, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I forgot those templates. Anyway, typing the "2=" is not harder than typing {{=}}, and not harder to remember. I think those are things that any seasoned editor remembers after having been bitten once. --LPfi (talk) 11:42, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely. However, due to the problems mentioned above, I'm not sure if I'd get things right, and I might mess up a few, highly-important pages (like the Japan article). Those who know exactly how to do the replacements, would you be OK with doing those? Thanks. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 16:40, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like the work is now Yes Done; thanks to whoever did that. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 15:35, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reminder. I'm now neutral on whether to delete the template. —Granger (talk · contribs) 00:08, 8 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Short depiction and not create page standard.--✈ IGOR ✉ TALK?! .WIKIVOYAGER ! 05:37, 17 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Moved from Wikivoyage:Votes for undeletion, because it was obviously intended to be here. Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:52, 17 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep, merge, or redirect. We generally try to avoid deleting articles about real places on Wikivoyage. Instead we either keep them, merge with a better article, or redirect to a better article. I'm personally not sure what is the best option at this point. Also, just so you know in future, you should add {{vfd}} to pages you nominate for deletion. Thanks! --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 12:53, 18 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Redirect both. Pashley (talk) 16:19, 18 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Where would you redirect it? --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 17:48, 18 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
yes there is something else to do, remove the vfd tag. --Traveler100 (talk) 14:38, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I know, and thanks if you were the one who removed it, but I mean that we can close this discussion now, right? --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 15:42, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
