Draft edit

Just to let you know I moved back Ripatransone, this site does not use Draft pages. Just label as a {{stub}}

  • Sorry... I just mixed it up with wikipedia Arep Ticous 17:36, 10 May 2019 (UTC)

New articles edit

Hello,

  • Some information for you: first, you may want to read Wikivoyage:What is an article?. We usually do not have normal articles for specific sights, such as temples. So, Kelaniya buddhist temple would not be an appropriate article. Also, while we do not use the Draft: namespace, it is considered normal practice to draft articles over time in userspace (i.e. subpages of your userpage), and then to move them out to mainspace when they are done. If you are planning on working on a few articles slowly over time, I would advise doing that over creating empty pages in mainspace. If you like, I can move your national park articles, such as Wilpattu national park, into your userspace for you to work on.
  • @ARR8: Thanks... i'm new to this, so i usually get confused at times... i will be sure not to make these mistakes... thanks... i will develop wilpattu national park.... Arep Ticous 17:03, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
It's no problem. Your user pages are listed at Special:PrefixIndex/User:Arepticous. ARR8 (talk | contribs) 17:08, 11 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • @ARR8: Thanks... But do you think that the above article i moved is ready to be in the mainspace? It does not have any info. Arep Ticous 17:09, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
If the user who made it were an active contributor, I would also ask them to leave such articles in userspace. As it is, mainspace is the best place for it. Other users may fill in the sections. Please see also Wikivoyage:Outline articles. ARR8 (talk | contribs) 17:50, 11 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

New articles edit

Hi some feedback regarding your newest articles: please take a look at Wikivoyage:Section headers. Section headers on this site are standardized. In your newest set of articles, Kilinochchi and Udawalawe National Park, you used level 1 headers, which we do not use. In general, please stick to the templates, without changing formatting details.

Additionally, you wrote that Kilinochchi represents a "district" - please see Wikivoyage:Geographical hierarchy. We do not have articles for districts unless they are part of the hierarchy. The closest such articles are Wikivoyage:Extraregions.

Finally, I'd also remind you of the requests I made above. Does this national park article pass the sleep test? If not, then there should not be an article for it. In view of this feedback, I am proposing to move these articles into your userspace again, and I would remind you that it is not necessary to create outline articles without any content, and if you wish to work on a page over time, you should do so in userspace. ARR8 (talk | contribs) 01:39, 19 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

@ARR8: First of all.... Thank you for checking them out. Second of all...Sorry, but can you please stick in the template, because i never knew that there was a template (Sorry... i dropped in here after 2 years.:)). And the answer to your question about the park is yes. You can sleep there. I created those articles without sticking them in my user because i will not be editing for the next few days. Arep Ticous 01:44, 19 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
I hope you haven't been creating these articles manually by eye. We have Wikivoyage:Article skeleton templates for creating articles quickly and correctly. Re: userspace, I wouldn't let not being able to edit prevent you from putting the articles there - there's no hurry to publish. Unless you're strongly opposed, I'd like to move the articles there so you can work on them whenever you do have time and would like to. ARR8 (talk | contribs) 01:57, 19 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

@ARR8: well... i have been doing them manually. I didnt notice a template even though i read the article skeletons page. i will use it next time i make an article. Also, i wont be editing for the next few days... i put up a notice on my user page. Arep Ticous 05:17, 19 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

and while you are reading.... the travelers pub is spelled incorrect.... is that intentional or..... Arep Ticous 05:19, 19 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
The spelling of the pub is explained at wv:spelling. ARR8 (talk | contribs) 06:11, 19 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
About the templates: the term is a bit confusing for somebody moving here from wikipedia. What are called templates over there are called "MediaWiki templates" over here; the templates for parks and cities are those found in Wikivoyage:Park article template, Wikivoyage:Big city article template etc. You just paste them into the empty page when starting a new article, or click at the appropriate link above the edit window you get when clicking on a redlink (for me there is a row of in bold black text, not obvious links). If there is text already you need some more tweaking around to get the section headers etc. in the right places among the text. --LPfi (talk) 16:57, 20 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

@LPfi: thanks for explaining....really appreciate it Arep Ticous 00:34, 21 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Ignoring vandals edit

I think we all appreciate your work against vandalism, but I'd like you to please read Wikivoyage:Deny recognition. In the case of this type of minor vandalism, the best thing to do is just revert the edit without comment. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:51, 24 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Ikan Kekek: Got it... i'll read that... Arep Ticous 09:52, 24 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Slow down edit

We're happy to have you as a contributor at Wikivoyage, and it's great that you're eager to get more involved. But if I were you, for now I'd focus on things like adding content to mainspace and getting a feel for our policies and how things work around here, rather than plunging into the deep end and getting involved in Votes for deletion, proposing new policies at the Pub, and other matters that you as a new user don't really understand. Again, I don't want to dissuade you from contributing, but you do need to slow down and pace yourself. In time, and as you get more experience under your belt, you'll be able to participate in other areas of the site without running into some of the pitfalls that you've been dealing with. -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 13:15, 24 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

@AndreCarrotflower: Thanks for your advice... you know, i am very eager to contribute to this wiki, and i really need to maintain my health as a contributer (not giving bad impressions to other users and being banned). But if you will, please tell me what kind of articles/pages should i edit in Wikivoyage? Arep Ticous 16:18, 24 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Think of a town, city, or county you know well, and improve the article. Check out the Wikihow page about writing a Wikivoyage travel guide. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 19:24, 27 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Good advice for articles to choose. The Wikihow page, however, is in "quality review" and can only be seen by logged in users. --LPfi (talk) 19:47, 27 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Oh, OK. Then if the user wants to see the article, he just needs to create an account. Sorry about that. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 19:49, 27 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Is it worth the trouble, despite the site itself questioning its quality? Have you read it lately? --LPfi (talk) 20:30, 27 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Actually, I wrote the article myself a couple weeks ago. But I just used it as a link here; I do not intend to require Arepticous to use it, it's a matter of choice. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 20:33, 27 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
OK, so it is probably routine to mark new articles like that. What about copying the text over here, with improvements from other wikivoyagers more likely? I think it is odd to have to direct people off-site for instructions. --LPfi (talk) 09:55, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
@SelfieCity: @LPfi: Thanks for your support guys! I absolutely certainly will read your wikihow article, and i am happy to say that i am now focused in developing the Sri Lanka Article. Many thanks be with you :-) Arep Ticous 12:16, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
@LPfi: I'll copy it over per WikiHow copyright info. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 15:20, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
The Wikihow content is under a -NC licence (commercial use not allowed), i.e. not free enough, but as the author you are free to licence it under our CC SA-BY licence regardless of that (Wikihow does not require transfer of copyright, few websites do). Use the version you wrote yourself, without possible additions. --LPfi (talk) 16:31, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

@SelfieCity: Maybe people cant view without logging in because you labeled it as a stub article? Arep Ticous 16:35, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

@LPfi: OK. So I just have to give credit as normal. Arepticous, you're right, but did I label it as a stub article? I'll look when I can; I'm a little on the busy side right now. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 18:13, 28 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
someone else must have labeled it... Arep Ticous 06:46, 29 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
Right, it looks like the people in charge of Wikihow added the tag. Since other individuals have edited the article, it would not be easy to remove specific pieces of content that are my own. It's OK, doesn't matter. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 14:29, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Kumana National Park edit

this edit added a hotel I cannot find with a Qatar telephone number to a place in Sri Lanka, is this correct? --Traveler100 (talk) 11:09, 29 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • @Traveler100: I was unfamiliar with this hotel too, but i adapted to the information given by google maps. The number seems to be from Sri Lanka, Maybe the number is outdated or is no loner at use. Arep Ticous 11:30, 29 June 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • I just surfed the internet, the given number directed me to the hotel's Facebook page... The hotel seems to be active at this time. I am pretty sure that this mobile/telephone number is correct. Arep Ticous 11:38, 29 June 2019 (UTC)Reply

Sri Lanka See edit

Generally we do not put listings in country or region articles. What I would suggest is that you copy the listings to the correct city articles, then change the content of the See section of the country into general text which mentions the attractions and links to the city articles for more detail. --Traveler100 (talk) 06:02, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hereis an example. In this case the listing on the city page has a Wikidata entry so the link can go exactly to the correct part of the page by adding the Q number to the link. --Traveler100 (talk) 06:08, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
Oh, Thanks! because i would have continued adding listing to every single location. Arep Ticous 14:12, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply
What should be on the country page are a few paragraphs of text that talk about the main attractions that are either popular places people visit or sites that your feel are really worth mentioning. Details such as address, web links and phone numbers should be on the city page where they are located. --Traveler100 (talk) 06:16, 5 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Autopatroller edit

You now have a lot of edits on English Wikivoyage and you seem to be reasonably reliable. Would you like to become autopatroller? --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 22:09, 4 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

You're an autopatroller. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 12:28, 20 July 2019 (UTC)Reply

Permission to change banners? edit

Given the back and forth on the article, your confusion is entirely justified. As seen in the page's history, the new banner was added by a new user, then reverted by Arepticous, then reinstated by Ibaman, then finally reverted by me, followed by my reinsertion of the user's other edits which I inadvertently deleted. See, it's really quite simple! --ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 20:19, 7 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Wait, am I confused? --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 20:33, 7 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

OK, thanks. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 12:22, 9 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Udawalawe National Park edit

On Wikivoyage, we use the template IsPartOf to "breadcrumb" destinations under their respective regions. Udawalawe does not have this yet. In what region of Sri Lanka is Udawalawe? (so I can add the breadcrumb) --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 11:56, 10 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

@SelfieCity: The closest answer would be Uva province Arep Ticous 12:04, 10 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Yes Done --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 12:06, 10 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

When you're back edit

No need to answer this immediately, but: Mannar includes information about "Leishmaniasis," a disease. Did you add all the content in that bullet listing? Thanks. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 18:41, 10 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

@SelfieCity:Only the symptoms... Arep Ticous 08:01, 11 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

This article about the disease lists the symptoms. Check out the list of symptoms. Then look at what you added to the Mannar article. Part of the text you added in that edit looks exactly the same, just formatted differently. "Breathing difficulty, Skin sores, which may become a skin ulcer that heals very slowly, Stuffy nose, runny nose, and nosebleeds, Swallowing difficulty" is exactly the same, both in the article I cited and the content you added. Why would the wording be exactly the same, even the capitalization, if you had not copied it?
I'm personally not going to be too harsh on this, as I have done copyright violations myself in the past. The fact remains, however, that this kind of thing is wrong and is not allowed on Wikivoyage. When you write here, it needs to be original, not from some other website. I would advise that you keep only one tab open (the editing tab) when you contribute to Wikivoyage, so you are not tempted to copy content from other websites. Thank you. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 12:56, 11 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
@SelfieCity: Dont worry, the other's aren't copy pasted. I am sorry for doing that, and i will prevent myself from actions like this in the future. But its still okay to take information from Wikipedia right? Arep Ticous 13:01, 11 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
OK. Thanks for admitting. I understand that new editors don't always understand copyright immediately. Replying to your point about WP, go to Wikivoyage:Cooperating with Wikipedia. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 13:04, 11 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
I read the article, like it says, i only used wikipedia sources in the understand section. But i used it to write a clear description for the Munneswaram kovil. Arep Ticous 13:14, 11 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Did you add the Wikipedia URL so people can see where the information came from? --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 13:26, 11 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
Doesn't look like you did. Tell me which Wikipedia article(s) you used, and I will cite them properly. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 13:26, 11 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Swept in from User talk:SelfieCity edit

Listen, I don't have any hard evidence, so I'm going off on what I know. What I do know is that the IP vote-bombed several proposals after having never edited before, then never edited again, with no cross-wiki history. This follows the behaviour of each of your socks at Meta; furthermore, the IP geolocates to Colombo, Sri Lanka, the (apparent) country of your residence.

Tell me what this evidence is supposed to suggest to me, knowing your prior history. Because it looks to me that you are lying, and doing a very poor job at lying. You haven't changed since 2017. You're still socking, and you're still proposing nonsense proposals. Hiàn (talk) 20:37, 6 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • @Hiàn: I am sorry for my actions, but i needed a few supporters to make it look appealing, and i have been trying to think of a good proposal. Sock puppetry isn't my main interest and i do not like doing so, i will remove the ip immediately, but tell meWhy is it a bad proposal? Can you clear it out? I really need some help. [[2]] Arep Ticous 15:03, 7 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
So this is an admission of socking, and you still fail to see why this is wrong. That's all I needed to hear. You can kiss your credibility good bye.
As for the proposal, let's discuss this on Meta. Hiàn (talk) 15:20, 7 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
yes... i am admitting it, but i do understand the affects of socks in the wikimedia foundation, i try to prevent such actions in the future, but sometimes i fail,I will really stay away from such actions from now on... for sure. I didnt say it was me first because i didnt want SelfieCity to get a bad impression of me, but i realize now that i should have come clean. Thanks for helping on my project btw. Arep Ticous 15:26, 7 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
You "try to prevent such actions in the future?" What the f*** could that possibly mean? All you had to do was not use your IP (or an alternate account) to "vote" twice. It's not something you have to resist. It's a simple decision you make. What a farce this is.
I'm quite frankly pretty done with your behaviour. Next time you do that I'll personally ensure you are blocked on whatever project you sock on. Hiàn (talk) 15:42, 7 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Hiàn:: Understand you're frustrated, but it is not acceptable to talk to anyone like that on Wikivoyage. Whatever you've got to say, keep it civil, and don't swear or make threats. And please read Wikivoyage:Keep Wikivoyage fun, which outlines the behaviour we expect of all editors, no matter who they are.
Arepticous, obviously it goes without saying that we won't tolerate sockpuppetry here, and that there will be consequences if you ever engage in such on this wiki.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 15:57, 7 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Yes, my apologies to both you, and Arepticous. I shouldn't have let myself go like that. Hiàn (talk) 15:58, 7 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
(For what it's worth, I don't think "what the fuck is so bad, though it might be in some places, and I don't think Wikivoyage's prohibition on "real world threats" is breached by a promise to block someone the next time they try to use sockpuppets to rig a

vote on a wiki. I don't think Hian has anything to really apologize for. ----)

  • Guys, you can be sure from now on that i will not cross the guidelines of Wikimedia (unless by mistake). All you have to do is trust me, i may seem like someone who doesn't seem very trustworthy judging by my earlier contributions, but i am still building myself up and i really need some support to successfully do so. Arep Ticous 03:24, 8 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Also for the record, Hiàn didn't write "what the f***", he wrote "what the fuck", which is what I took exception to. The fact that the word is now censored doesn't change my initial view, because I'm not a prude about words, but the way in which they're used. That said, I fully accept the apologies of both Hiàn and Arepticous as genuine and trust their good faith going forward.--ThunderingTyphoons! (talk) 07:39, 8 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Arepticous seems to be censoring this page. My original post was uncensored, and I stand by my original remarks. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:52, 8 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Ikan Kekek: I did that because selfieCity did the same to the earlier remark... ill change it... Arep Ticous
It's your user talk page. It's OK if you want to censor it like that, as long as the points are clear. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:12, 8 September 2019 (UTC) 08:32, 8 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Templates translation edit

Hi!

A few weeks ago you supported a proposal I wrote at mw:Global templates/Discuss. Thank you very much for that!

An essential part of that big project is now a community wish: m:Community Wishlist Survey 2021/Translation/Templates translation.

It would be very nice if you could vote for it by clicking "Support", and then "Support" again. After you vote, invite your friends to do the same :)

Thanks! --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 12:52, 15 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
