Since when did rfc become a place to request "native English proofreading"?

edit

I've been noticing that a lot of listings in "Articles and travel content" have the description of "needs native English proofreading". Question is, when did rfc become a place to request such? My understanding is that rfc was used to point out to discussions that needed comment, not something that someone needed to do in the article. I don't see a change of such discussion either. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 08:31, 24 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

There seems to be no procedure for such requests. Other places to post them would include the talk page of the article (good if people are watching it, but if there is no reaction, other places are needed), Destinations of the month, for articles nominated, and the Pub. The Pub is the only one useful in the general case, and we might not want too many such requests there. Perhaps we should create a maintenance category. I think such request should be restricted to articles that have most content in place (guides and near guides). –LPfi (talk) 09:46, 24 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps we should create a new section for that, or create a new projectspace page for that. If they do need proofreading (by a native speaker), there should be some place where one can request it, but I just don't think rfc is the place for that. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 09:54, 24 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
I'd rather see these requests here in a separate section than in the Pub. Ground Zero (talk) 14:08, 24 January 2022 (UTC)Reply
I created a new section. Please rearrange if necessary. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta.wikimedia) 06:02, 26 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

Temporary protection until Nov 15, 06:15 (UTC)

edit

I've temporarily protected this page for a day to prevent the influx of erroneous requests for feedback. All requests for feedback should be requested on Wikivoyage:Requests for comment#Articles and travel content, not on this page; it seems nobody is interested in reading my replies to stop. If, for some reason, you are not a template editor or an admin and need to edit this page, feel free to request temp editor rights on my user talk page. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 06:20, 14 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

I've removed the protection as per requested on my talk page. Apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 08:08, 14 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Request for reviews of student work

edit
Swept in from the pub

Just a heads up that quite a few of my students' projects are now listed at Wikivoyage:Requests_for_comment, with links to talk page discussions properly started. Some of them haven't received a review yet, and it would be very motivational for my students if the reviews would appear in few days (I'll try to review them with students next Monday). Thank you to everyone who has already left a review, and thanks in advance to anyone else who will do so. Piotrus (talk) 12:34, 17 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Just a note that there are still some student requests for feedback that didn't get any attention. It would be motivational for them if they would hear something back :) Hanyangprofessor2 (talk) 05:28, 21 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
I think that we now have at least one comment posted everywhere except Talk:Dongducheon and Talk:Rivierenland. (If I missed any, please add the links here, too.) Most of them would benefit from a second comment. Please remember to say the good things as well as something that could be improved. WhatamIdoing (talk) 20:55, 21 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
I gave feedback on Rivierenland about three weeks ago, though on the talk page to the user page on which it is being developed: User talk:RonanHoogmoed/Rivierenland. Wauteurz (talk) 22:06, 21 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
Right, although maybe some more comments at Talk:Zhangjiajie would be useful too, if anyone has time. Thank you everyone for commenting, I think we will review the comments in class this Friday. Piotrus (talk) 02:36, 22 November 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello, dear Wikipedia volunteers, I am finishing the editing of Wikivoyage about Huzhou, China. I hope to receive your suggestions. I will accept them humbly. Thank you very much.User:ZHANG0822ZH/Huzhou ZHANG0822ZH (talk) 05:41, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

You appear to have hardly started editing Huzhou. Surely a city with a population of over 1 million has some museums, good parks (eg Lotuses Garden) and historic or architecturally significant sights to see. There must also be some places to eat, and a few hotels to sleep in. I will give more suggestions after you have added 10-20 good listings. Thanks. AlasdairW (talk) 10:26, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Hello, I have added some parks, ancient towns, art galleries and other attractions, as well as some recommended restaurants and drink shops. Could you please give me some more valuable suggestions? Thank you very much.User:ZHANG0822ZH/Huzhou ZHANG0822ZH (talk) 12:52, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
@ZHANG0822ZH: They look like useful contributions, but it seems you've only added them to your userspace (User:ZHANG0822ZH/Huzhou). Would you be able to add them to the actual article (Huzhou) please? —Granger (talk · contribs) 14:34, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm also concerned that some of the coordinates may not be accurate, as some of the locations don't seem to match what I see on Baidu Ditu. How did you gather the coordinates? Is it possible that you were using coordinates from the Chinese coordinate system? Our dynamic maps use the international coordinate system, so it's important to provide latitude and longitude based on that system (you can get the coordinates from OpenStreetMap or by converting them as described here). —Granger (talk · contribs) 15:53, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the advice you gave me. I used the coordinates from Google. I will check and correct them immediately. Thank you very much! ZHANG0822ZH (talk) 16:27, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
@ZHANG0822ZH: Thanks for moving the material to Huzhou. I'm still concerned that the coordinates may not be right. The map in the article shows Silk Town Digang Ancient Village (丝绸小镇荻港古村) to the east of 东苕溪, but Baidu Ditu shows it on the opposite side. Coordinates from Google Maps use the Chinese coordinate system, so those won't work, at least not directly. —Granger (talk · contribs) 04:11, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
I have made the changes again, thank you very much! ZHANG0822ZH (talk) 04:36, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
@ZHANG0822ZH: I'm not sure if we're understanding each other. When I look at the map in the article, I still see Silk Town Digang Ancient Village to the east of the river, but Baidu Ditu shows it on the other side. Do you see what I mean? Is Baidu Ditu wrong, or does this still need to be corrected? Again, coordinates from Google Maps or Baidu Ditu are incompatible with the dynamic map system we use on Wikivoyage. I suggest finding the location on OpenStreetMap and getting the coordinates from there instead. —Granger (talk · contribs) 15:54, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
I made changes again and caused you trouble. Thank you for correcting my mistakes. ZHANG0822ZH (talk) 16:10, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
@ZHANG0822ZH: Thanks, that listing looks better now. Could you please check the locations for the other listings you added too? I notice that some of the others are shown in locations that don't match what I see on Baidu Ditu. I also notice that Huzhou Museum, Huzhou Science and Technology Museum, and BLACK33·wine bistro all have the same coordinates in the article – I assume that was a mistake. —Granger (talk · contribs) 16:33, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I’m taking ‘Understanding Small and Big Data with Wikis’ at Hanyang University. I've created Wikivoyage page about Namyangju, South Korea, and I need feedback by experienced Wikivoyage editors! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! ChaeEunYoon (talk)

First thing I notice (in your article & several from your classmates) is that phone numbers are not well formatted. The convention here is to use country codes, for example +82 123 456 7890 not 0123 456 7890. Pashley (talk) 14:35, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
All your photos have captions like "Picture of Jeong Yak-yong's birthplace". The reader can see that it is a picture, so the caption should be just "Jeong Yak-yong's birthplace". Pashley (talk) 14:43, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Addresses in many listings include "Namyangju-si, Gyeonggi-do". This should be removed; readers know it is the Namyangju article, so don't tell them again. Pashley (talk) 22:31, 18 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the reply! I will refer to it carefully and edit it! Thank you!!! ChaeEunYoon (talk) 01:08, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
@ChaeEunYoon: please also check wv:Time and date formats; many of the opening hours in that article aren't formatted properly. Vidimian (talk) 02:33, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Thanks again for the advice! I'll change it right away! Thank you! ChaeEunYoon (talk) 14:09, 19 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Where to ask for feedback (peer review)?

edit
Swept in from the pub

As my class' module on Wikivoyage (discussed a few headings above) is wrapping up, I'd like to tell my students to ask for a peer review from the Wikivoyage community. Where is the best place to do this? Request for Comments doesn't seem to have a relevant section, and I don't want to overwhelm the Pub here with few dozen headings. Hanyangprofessor2 (talk) 05:31, 23 October 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for asking! Your students could post at Wikivoyage:Arrivals lounge or, better still, start a thread on the talk page of the respective article and then link to that talk page at Wikivoyage:Requests for comment directly under the heading "Articles and travel content" at the end of the first list — currently there is a list of renaming proposals but that section appears to be miscellaneous. The requests posted there should be in reverse chronological order. --Comment by Selfie City (talk) (contributions) 13:03, 23 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
