Districts Again
editThis city really needs districtification. Here is what I propose:
- Old city
- Hussain Sagar Lake (i.e. region around it)
- Jubilee Hills and Banjara Hills
- Cyberabad
- North Hyderabad
- Secundarabad
- East Hyderabad

- Nice to see you around, Ravikiran. In case others don't express a view within a day or so, my feeling is that since you know the city, if you're up to defining the borders of all the districts and starting the articles for them, go ahead. Saqib is great at making static maps of districts when time allows, if you would like to use those. Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:09, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
- Although bit busy these days but yes, will surely create a map if I get the base image or at-least the borders of districts. --Saqib (talk) 14:37, 29 August 2015 (UTC)
- Firstly, may I congratulate you on making one of the better looking Indian articles.
- Secondly, I doubt you'll have enough "See" and "Do" for some of the districts to make either a successful districtification or for it to be strictly necessary - but I'd love to be proved wrong... BushelCandle (talk) 14:59, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
- Ravikiran lives in Hyderabad. If he believes there will be enough listings for each district, I would tend to trust his judgment. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:27, 11 September 2015 (UTC)
- I'm also inclined to trust his judgment but I note that it is over a year since the posts above & every district except "old city" is still a red link. Ravikiran, are you around? Can anyone else help? Pashley (talk) 02:23, 14 October 2016 (UTC)
- Ravikiran, would you like to follow up on this? Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:06, 20 August 2017 (UTC)
- Another problem is that "Old City" contains not a single listing besides its "get in" section... Hobbitschuster (talk) 17:44, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
Removed content from listing
editThis was mentioned in the Hussain Sagar Lake listing, but doesn't belong there. Most of it is mentioned elsewhere in the article, but maybe it might be useful and I didn't just want to delete it.
Sights: Pakistan M47 Patton Tank, An 18-metre high statue of Gautama Buddha, Lumbini Park, Birla Mandir Hindu temple, Sanjeevaiah Park public green space, Prasad's IMAX multiplex movie theater, NTR Gardens is a small urban park, Sayedani Maa Tomb at the north end of Tank Bund, Secretariat buildings, Hyderabad Boat Club on the southern side, Secunderabad Sailing Club, Hotel Marriott on the northern side and Raj Bhavan on the western bank
Abandon districtification for the time being?
editGiven the rather sorry state of the one district article that was created and the fact that the others have sat as redlinks for two years, should districtification be put off and abandoned at this point? Hobbitschuster (talk) 17:45, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, IMO halfway made stuff like this makes our guides less helpful to the traveler and it doesn't look particularly nice either. ϒpsilon (talk) 17:55, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
- @Ravikiran r: any input? Hobbitschuster (talk) 19:26, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
- I would also abandon districtification for now and focus updating/polishing the main one-page article. Especially adding geo coordinates to all the listings (and some details to their content part) would be very useful and will make a possible future districtification much easier. Hyderabad, India [districts]
edit- Swept in from the pub
I've been working on the Hyderabad article. The current obstacle to further progress is the districts. The exact district boundaries are unclear, and there are also large areas that seem to not be in any district - see here. I asked the person who originally made the districts, but he doesn't seem to be active anymore. Does anyone have local knowledge who could help out here? Ar2332 (talk) 10:34, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
- That's a real problem. It's really too bad User:Ravikiran r has been gone since May - hopefully, life intervened in a good way. I hope someone can help. If not, you could try posting to w:Talk:Hyderabad and see if that might rustle up anyone who's interested. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:40, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks for raising the problem here. After some searching I found the following lists and maps: w:List of Hyderabad Corporation wards. They might help in defining the boundaries of each of the districts for our purposes. Xsobev (talk) 15:00, 12 January 2018 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, those boundaries don't correspond to the Hyderabad boundary on OpenStreetMap (or the one on Google Maps), and also don't seem to be helpful to the traveler (natural destinations are split between zones). So I think it better not to use those. Ar2332 (talk) 21:18, 14 January 2018 (UTC)

- It seems that the Hyderabad page meets most of the "don'ts" regarding districtification: Wikivoyage:Geographical_hierarchy#Districts_in_cities. I think it would be best (for the traveler) at the moment to revert the distrification and merge all the district pages back into the main page until we have at least a "comprehensive districts hierarchy for the city, which has no gaps, no overlap". However, I don't want to see your time and effort being wasted, so reverting should take the district page information into account (for example according to the suggestion: "to breed content for a district(s), you can create a subsection for that district(s) in the respective section (See, Do, Eat, Sleep) in the main city article"). I'm also open to any other proposals ... Xsobev (talk) 11:56, 17 January 2018 (UTC)
- Has this ever been resolved? Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:39, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
- I haven't followed the development of this article in a long while, but I quickly checked now and it seems it hasn't yet been resolved. I think the "wards" I mentioned earlier might help in defining district boundaries, since they seem to be small enough so that they can be grouped together flexibly. I quickly checked on Openstreetmap, and they seem to be mapped there. Unfortunately they don't have wikidata items yet, so we can't immediately use our magic mapshape template with wikidata parameter to create a dynamic map with district boundaries. My other points mentioned above also still hold I think. Xsobev (talk) 08:53, 24 May 2018 (UTC)
This was never resolved. Until 2012 there was a set of districts defined here, which I just discovered. To be honest, I would like to go back to this with minor-to-moderate changes. It fits the official city boundaries, and entirely covers the area within those boundaries.
Looking over past discussions and doing a bit more research online, I would like to make the following changes to the 2012 districts:
- Old City becomes a new district, carved out of "South", from the area between the river and the train tracks
- New City becomes a new district, carved out of "Central", on the north side of the river, approximately equal in area to Old City.
- North Zone includes Secunderabad (even though it's technically separate from Hyderabad) and the combined article is named "North and Secunderabad" or similar.
Ar2332 (talk) 08:41, 25 May 2018 (UTC)
- I've begun redistrictifying. The "Central" article will include the entire Central Zone. Someone later with local knowledge is welcome to divide it up into several articles should they desire. Ar2332 (talk) 14:06, 28 May 2018 (UTC)
- Excellent. Thank you. Ikan Kekek (talk) 17:04, 28 May 2018 (UTC)
MMTS stations
editI deleted the list of MMTS (commuter rail) stops. The stops can be seen on the map, and the tracks are drawn as a prominent black line. So the only information that is being deleted is the list of destinations adjacent to each stops. This list consists mostly of obscure sites that seem unlikely to interest the tourist. The sites of importance already (generally) have map coordinates, and it's easy to see from the map which station is close by (as well as exact directions). So I am deleting the list. If anyone wants to use it as an information source in the future, here it is.

Merge?
editA lot of the districts are at outline status. We should perhaps merge the Old City and the south, and separately merge Secunderabad and North Hyderabad. Just a thought. --Comment by Selfie City (talk about my contributions) 00:12, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
- I will work on Hyderabad this month. For a city with an eventful history, metro area of 7,100 km2 (2,700 sq mi) and population of over 10 million, 7 districts is not a lot. Gizza (roam) 02:20, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
- Oh, okay. --Comment by Selfie City (talk about my contributions) 02:58, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
- I'm against merging Old City and South, but might support merging Secunderabad and North Hyderabad. They are geographically intertwined and have a small total number of attractions. Ar2332 (talk) 07:04, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, I can understand why merging historic and newer town regions might not be the best idea for the tourist. Thanks for your feedback, though. Could you expand a little on "might support". For example, are there any problems with merging Secunderabad and North Hyderabad? All the best, --Comment by Selfie City (talk about my contributions) 19:57, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
- They are technically different municipalities, so it might be a bad idea to combine them while one of the municipalities is itself split into multiple pages. Ar2332 (talk) 06:24, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
- I see. Well, it would be useful if I could get a clear "support" or "oppose" from either Gizza or Ar2332, or even both of you, so I can know whether or not I should move forward with merging Secunderabad and North Hyderabad. Thanks for your input so far, though, and maybe you would be interested in my merge proposal for Ahmedabad as well. --Comment by Selfie City (talk about my contributions) 22:12, 7 September 2018 (UTC)

- This merger between North Hyderabad and Secunderabad wasn't a good idea. The two areas are very different. Unless anyone has strong objections, I am going to undo the merger when I get to it. Ravikiran (talk) 02:11, 24 October 2020 (UTC)
Nehru ORR Route Map
editIt might be a good idea to insert the route map found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Outer_Ring_Road,_Hyderabad in the Get around section of this page, but I am not sure how to do it. Any help would be appreciated! Ravikiran (talk) 02:16, 24 October 2020 (UTC)
- I don't know, because that seems to be on Wikipedia only, not Commons. -- Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:44, 24 October 2020 (UTC)
- Yeah. It seems to be a lot more complicated than a simple image see: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Outer_Ring_Road,_Hyderabad&action=edit§ion=2#editform

Hospitals to districts?
editA {{movetodistrict}} was added to the Hospitals section. Is that wise? If you need a hospital, I think you should be ready to travel to another district to visit it – and you shouldn't need to read all district articles to find the one that is best for your case. Conversely, the hospitals should be described in a way that allows an informed choice, and there is no need to list several hospitals that serve the same function. I wonder whether the current listings are mostly touting of the hospitals listed. I have a hard time imagining the traveller who on a visit realizes they need to visit a cancer hospital – and if they travel for that need, they need to know the hospital to search for it in this (or a district!) article. —The preceding comment was added by LPfi (talk • contribs) 07:19, May 23, 2023 (UTC)
- Yeah, I'm usually skeptical of such listings. Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:09, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
- I agree – hospitals should go in the main article, not in individual district articles. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs | meta) 12:30, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
- Support per nom. I already had listed hospitals district-wise in Kolkata. If the consensus is to list hospitals in the main article, it should be mentioned somewhere else. --Sbb1413 (he) (talk • contribs) 04:54, 27 May 2023 (UTC)
