There is a already a banner on Seoul/Songpa. This was deleted by accident last month, but I have just restored it. If you wish to replace the existing banner, please discuss it on Talk:Seoul/Songpa; this page is for suggesting banners for articles which don't have a banner. There is a already a banner on Seoul/East. If you wish to replace the existing banner, please discuss it on Talk:Seoul/East; this page is for suggesting banners for articles which don't have a banner. I also don't think that this photo would make a good banner when cropped to 7:1, File:Dongdaemun Gate or Heunginjimun gate.jpg would look better. AlasdairW (talk) 14:53, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Are the rules regarding pictures including identifiable people waived for military personnel? --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 13:07, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
These photos would be good for an article on military travel. The article is about exit permits required when you are required to do military service, so I am not so sure they give the right message. AlasdairW (talk) 19:31, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Would File:Suomalainen sotilasvala.jpg be suitable? This shows Finnish conscripts giving their military oath, which is relevant as Finland has a section in the article. The picture shows the soldiers from behind, so they are not easily identifiable, but unlike the earlier photos the crop would have to shows peoples heads (from behind). AlasdairW (talk) 21:09, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@AlasdairW, that looks like an excellent source for a page banner image for this topic. Nelson Ricardo 2500 (talk) 21:28, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes Done File:Suomalainen sotilasvala.jpg per AlasdairW's suggestion. Note there is no Wikidata for this article. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 23:57, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, sorry I missed these two images. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 17:33, 13 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Swept in from the pub

Hi, everyone! I looked for a Requests for banners page and didn't find one, so:

We've had a Downstate New York article for a little while now, but it has no custom banner. Anyone want to try creating one? It doesn't have to be a view of New York City, though a distant one from upriver or conceivably far into Queens might be good. Any interesting view from any of the Five Boroughs, Long Island, Westchester or Rockland could work. Ikan Kekek (talk) 06:13, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It's not perfect, but what are your thoughts on this one? It's cropped from a photo taken near the old Tappan Zee.
Nelson Ricardo (talk) 07:04, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I don't like the pillar with "WARNING" on it, but I like the rest of it, and it's surely better than no custom banner. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:20, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I think a more distant view would fit better. I tried File:EagleRock 002.jpg with the croptool without storing the result. The result was quite nice. --FredTC (talk) 09:06, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Nice, but the region is wrong. This is Downstate New York, not New Jersey. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:15, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I know, but New Jersey is only the camera position. The main subject is New York. That is why I made the suggestion. --FredTC (talk) 09:31, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I understand, but I'd rather the view were from Rockland County. I think I saw a photo of a distant view from Suffern on Commons. I'll see if I can find it and it's big enough. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:45, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I can't find it. Ikan Kekek (talk) 10:03, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I like FredTC's image, but since it's not in DNY, something else is needed. SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 10:15, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Ikan Kekek:: do you have any in your personal gallery? SHB2000 (talk | contribs | en.wikipedia) 11:55, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
For the record, the page is Wikivoyage:Banner expedition/Banner suggestions. I’d propose that we move it to Wikivoyage:Banner suggestions so it’s easier to find. I’ll propose it on the talk page. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 12:50, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────Turns out, I already did just that in 2019! See Wikivoyage talk:Banner expedition/Banner suggestions#Move to Wikivoyage:Banner suggestions?. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 12:52, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've gone ahead and added my crop via Wikidata. I consider it an "interim" solution and welcome a better submission as replacement. Nelson Ricardo (talk) 17:50, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

To the question about my personal gallery, it's on an iPhone and doesn't have any of the types of photos we've been discussing. Ikan Kekek (talk) 07:31, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The view from the Tappan Zee looks really good on the page as a banner. I'm happy with it. Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:30, 7 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

From a quick read of the WP articles, it looks like type of mosquito is not the main carrier of malaria. The photo was taken in Wellington which is not a malaria hotspot. AlasdairW (talk) 18:14, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Do you have any ideas for that picture? --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 20:24, 14 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe a mosquito net? —Granger (talk · contribs) 12:33, 15 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, on the basis it's easy to tell that it is a mosquito net and is therefore related to malaria. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 20:14, 15 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I'm having trouble making a banner-shaped photo of a mosquito net that's still recognizable as a mosquito net. This is the best I've come up with so far—what do you think? —Granger (talk · contribs) 21:43, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. Why not? It introduces readers to an important aspect of protecting yourself against the disease. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 17:33, 29 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
So this one is Yes Done --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 18:37, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I somehow missed these. I'll take a look at them tomorrow. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 01:09, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
A great example of tomorrow never comes! But I tried, also rotating the image -20 degrees, but I don't think it works. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 17:36, 29 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with SelfieCity—I can't find a way to include the ball in the frame without making the legs visually confusing. —Granger (talk · contribs) 18:27, 10 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've added a different banner instead. —Granger (talk · contribs) 18:32, 10 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 18:43, 10 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have also Yes Done Commons and Wikidata. See Commons file and Wikidata entry. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 17:26, 8 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. The current banner, while not too related to the city, is eye-catching. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 17:28, 8 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I would say there does not exist consensus to change the page banner, so we should not change this banner. I will archive the discussion. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 16:32, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I've also added it to Commons and Wikidata. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 20:56, 25 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it has a banner now. So I'm marking this one as Yes Done --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 20:45, 25 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I like Granger's Esperanto option for the banner of the original article, and one of the undeciphered pictures for the Phrasebooks banner. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 16:24, 8 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes Done see Phrasebooks, where I have added the new banner. It's mostly featuring the Latin alphabet, so we can do a lower crop if we want a better display of non-Latin languages. I don't think that is important, though. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 16:30, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
It's a good picture, but a wider one would be even better for a page banner. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 22:48, 2 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I will use the banner anyway as it is definitely not bad. I've done the crop and among the next steps is the addition of the new banner to Wikivoyage. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 16:36, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yes Done: Wikidata, Commons --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 16:39, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Oops, I'm not sure I went through to the source and scrolled down before posting it was done. I've done that now. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 16:41, 3 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Lounges is a slightly ambiguous title, so I looked at the lede and the article is referring to the kinds of lounges where people drink wine, etc. I think a picture of a wine glass, or some fancy covered seats, seem like they may be most appropriate for the banner. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 16:26, 8 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's talking about airport lounges. commons:Category:Airport lounges is one place to start looking. —Granger (talk · contribs) 10:27, 9 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I would suggest waiting a few weeks to see how the article develops - premium lounges on ferries, or lounges for first class train travellers might be included. AlasdairW (talk) 18:53, 9 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Boreal forest currently uses a default banner but the first image in it is a map that shows the forest stretching east-west across Canada, Russia, Finland, etc. It looks to me like a cropped version of that map could become a banner image. I don't think this important, since the article is a new travel topic without a lot of content, but worth doing if it is easy. Pashley (talk) 22:45, 11 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, it is a png file. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 10:19, 12 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
For now, I've added a banner of a forest; it wasn't easy to find a good picture, though I only looked at the Alaskan options. --Comment by Selfie City (talk | contributions) 12:43, 12 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
