Hello, Saqib! Welcome to Wikivoyage.

To help get you started contributing, we've created a tips for new contributors page, full of helpful links about policies and guidelines and style, as well as some important information on copyleft and basic stuff like how to edit a page. If you need help, check out Project:Help, or post a message in the travellers' pub.

Would you be kind enough to provide a translation for your new Urdu or Farsi templates? Thanks! --W. Franke-mailtalk 16:48, 23 September 2012 (CEST)

Yes, sure. --Saqib (talk) 16:54, 23 September 2012 (CEST)

Deletion of user pageEdit

Hi Saquib, I deleted your user page because you requested it with a Vfd request from page creator. Now you have re-created it as far as I can see identical to the deleted version. Was the deletion request a mistake? Cheers, • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 18:52, 23 September 2012 (CEST)

I didn't requested my user page deletion after I re-created it. --Saqib (talk) 19:05, 23 September 2012 (CEST)
Yes, I see that now. I must have had an old version open in another window. Apoligies for any inconvenience, I can undelete it if you want. • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 10:17, 24 September 2012 (CEST)
Yes, please undelete. Cheers. --Saqib (talk) 10:27, 24 September 2012 (CEST)
Done. • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 11:33, 24 September 2012 (CEST)

Thanks for your edits on some Pakistani destinations! --Globe-trotter (talk) 20:07, 23 September 2012 (CEST)

Hi, I need a districts map of Karachi to put in an article. Can you please help with this? You can use data from here. --Saqib (talk) 15:55, 24 September 2012 (CEST)
Hello, I have added a map of Karachi and created the district articles. I divided the cantonments over the other districts, but let me know if some changes are still needed, as I am not very familiar with the city. Thanks. --Globe-trotter (talk) 19:13, 24 September 2012 (CEST)
Thank you. Is it necessary to have articles on districts as well? --Saqib (talk) 20:37, 24 September 2012 (CEST)
Yes, it is for huge cities. However, would those districts make any sense as articles for travellers? --Globe-trotter (talk) 21:02, 24 September 2012 (CEST)
Erm... not really. Btw, last four section headings in the table of contents (TOC) are missing in this article. --Saqib (talk) 21:15, 24 September 2012 (CEST)
It's a bug I think! Not sure how to fix. Maybe you could think of a sensible way to divide the city for travellers? As said, I am not very familiar with the city. --Globe-trotter (talk) 21:20, 24 September 2012 (CEST)

Hi! Thank you for your rikscha contribution. Taxi touts are a big problem in our South Asia articles. Also Karachi has more Taxi company listings than allowed (max. nine listings). Do you know by chance the moste respected companies? I would prefer to highlight these and delete the rest. Regards, Jc8136 (talk) 16:23, 26 September 2012 (CEST)

Hello. Yes, you're right. I'll take down the unnecessary entries. --Saqib (talk) 16:35, 26 September 2012 (CEST)

Hi Saqib. You seem to be fairly in-the-know regarding South Asian articles, especially Pakistan. I noticed you just district-ized Karachi. I was planning to district-ize Dhaka in Bangladesh, per the talk page, but wasn't sure if it was necessary. It's a city (by some estimates) of nearly 20 million people, so is quite similar to Karachi. From your knowledge, do you think the article should be district-ized? Thanks, JamesA >talk 16:29, 30 September 2012 (CEST)

Hello James. Yes Dhaka is a huge city and if you're willing to fill the Dhaka district articles, you should district-ize it. I also found Guangzhou and Tehran, both huge cities as well but not yet district-ized. By the way, I felt like that Dhaka has a population of nearly 15 million people only. --Saqib (talk) 17:42, 30 September 2012 (CEST)
Thanks for the tip, I'll go ahead and split it up then. Those 2 cities definitely need a split as well; I can help with mapping if you need it. Yeah, estimates for Dhaka's population are all over the place, thanks to a lack of proper census taking. For example, I'm pretty sure most of the slum dwellers are not recorded in the census. I guess official figures put it at 14-17 million, but many international organisations and news agencies estimate more. JamesA >talk 04:38, 1 October 2012 (CEST)

Hi Saqib. Are you asking why there are not many articles with a large history section? Or are you saying the history section is too long? I guess not many countries have it because most travellers don't deal with a country's history so much. They deal with the sights, attractions, activities, hotels, food, etc. The Understand section is more like a summary of the Wikipedia article. I also think it's too long. We're trying to give a brief summary to help travellers; not train them up like they are about to be tested on it. JamesA >talk 12:03, 1 October 2012 (CEST)

Yes, I was trying to say that few articles have long history sections and needs to get in brief. By the way, I was expecting your reply on your own talk page not mine but anyway. --Saqib (talk) 12:11, 1 October 2012 (CEST)
Feel free to plunge forward and write some history then! :) Yeah, after years of doing it elsewhere, I'm used to not keeping conversations together and instead replying to people on their own talk pages. JamesA >talk 12:21, 1 October 2012 (CEST)

Thanks for your fair comment on my user talk page.

I have responded (both to you and others) here and I would very much appreciate it if you would make your responses on this particular thread (if any) there too! --W. Franke-mailtalk 14:46, 1 October 2012 (CEST)

By the way, please call me "Frank", Sir.
It's my Rufname in my native Germany. --W. Franke-mailtalk 21:30, 3 October 2012 (CEST)

Greetings from ItalyEdit

Hi, Saqib! I'm Gobbler from it/WV. I modified the article on Karachi by adding a link to it/WV. Unfortunately I can't log in with my nickname because I get an incorrect view of the pages in my browser. Sorry for the inconvenience. Gobbler (talk) 17:05, 3 October 2012 (CEST)

No problem. --Saqib (talk) 17:09, 3 October 2012 (CEST)

Hi Saqib, thank you very much for the hard work at the Karachi article. It seems to move in a very good direction. Currently Karachi is at the usable level but the districtification is a big step forward to guide. The main advantage of the guide status would be that according to Wikivoyage:Article_status we could feature it as first Pakistani Destination of the Month on our Main page. I know it is a huge task that will last some time but if you would be willing we could list it as Wikivoyage:Collaboration_of_the_month and jointly get it to the level where in 2013 it could be featured. Would you be willing to lead that task? I would then try to get other pointed to that action, so efforts will faster reward. To give you an idea what we would be up to, see Mos to would a perfect article would require. Jc8136 (talk) 13:03, 5 October 2012 (CEST)

Hello. Thanks for your appreciation Jan. Yes, I'm willing to get Karachi article to the Destination of the Month level. Right now, I'm in the process of cleaning-up the article and required a lot of copyediting as I'm not native English so English is bad. It would be great if article would be listed in the Wikivoyage:Collaboration_of_the_month so many other editors can get involved in the cleanup process. --Saqib (talk) 13:12, 5 October 2012 (CEST)
Saqib, great! I will setup a Cotm nomination and asked them experienced travellers who visited Pakistan to assist in that task. Jc8136 (talk) 13:15, 5 October 2012 (CEST)
Sure. --Saqib (talk) 13:17, 5 October 2012 (CEST)
First draft is done. Feel free to add your points. As more detailed it gets, the better people can help out. Jc8136 (talk) 13:27, 5 October 2012 (CEST)
Great idea, Jan. I'll help copyedit, if you like, Saqib. JamesA >talk 14:53, 5 October 2012 (CEST)
Sure James, you're more than welcome :) --Saqib (talk) 14:56, 5 October 2012 (CEST)

Hi, Saqib. I noticed you created Template:Shortcut and started adding it to various pages. Our convention, per Wikivoyage:Using Mediawiki templates, is to get approval for new templates first, before creating and using them. Would you mind starting a discussion, probably at the Pub, on this new template before adding it to any more pages? Thanks. LtPowers (talk) 19:41, 7 October 2012 (CEST)

Saqib, I see you've created several more templates without discussing them first. I appreciate your enthusiasm for the project, but it is important that you discuss and get consensus for new templates before creating them, not after. LtPowers (talk) 19:30, 14 October 2012 (CEST)
Apart from shortcut template, yes I've created few but not several templates, such as Template:User page, Template:Busy and Template:Fromwp. Creating shortcut template without the consensus and then, start adding it to many pages was a mistake but these templates I created since then are all user namespace templates and must be available to use by users. Thus I didn't deemed it necessary to discuss and get consensus on creating such templates. --Saqib (talk) 19:53, 14 October 2012 (CEST)
I do not understand your reasoning. There is nothing that makes user page templates special, no exception carved out for them, and I certainly don't see why they "must be available". All templates follow the same rules. -- D. Guillaume (talk) 20:24, 14 October 2012 (CEST)
You're right. Anyway, If you think any of the template I created shouldn't be on the wiki. Please nominate it for deletion. --Saqib (talk) 20:30, 14 October 2012 (CEST)

Thanks for your recent VIP alert over on WT. Promotion comes rapidly, eh? --W. Franke-mailtalk 20:52, 19 October 2012 (CEST)

Yes, I'm amazed. OVK have only 3 edits yet become an admin. Btw, now a days you seems busy there rather than here. --Saqib (talk) 21:06, 19 October 2012 (CEST)
I've been busy on WT for more than 6 years - the majority of time as an IP. I'm waiting for an answer from Peterfitzgerald to this question before I bother putting my head above the parapet again here, Sir... --W. Franke-mailtalk 01:26, 20 October 2012 (CEST)

Speedy deleteEdit

When you nominate an article for speedy deletion, could you place the tag at the top of the page? So you don't wipe out all contents on the page. Thanks. --Globe-trotter (talk) 21:05, 21 October 2012 (CEST)

Yes sure. --Saqib (talk) 08:40, 22 October 2012 (CEST)

WTS image deletionsEdit

Re this edit, the image was definitely deleted from WTS [1]. Perhaps the server cache (if there is one on WTS) was out of date. This, that and the other (talk) 08:31, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

Santa FeEdit

Thanks for the reference. I replied to you on my talk page, to keep the discussion together. DrMennoWolters (talk) 11:00, 7 January 2013 (UTC)

hi, and thanks for being alert. The block for this IP was a result of a followup checkuser investigation to a spambot editing from a registered account (globally locked). Such blocks are practiced for short time (1-2 days) to prevent other spambots from the same IP to spread. Pundit (talk) 17:09, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi again, a colleague steward drew my attention to the fact that I mistakenly blocked the IP locally, instead of globally - which I've just amended. Many apologies for the confusion! Pundit (talk) 17:17, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
That's fine with me Pundit. --Saqib (talk) 20:01, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

Hello! You have just undone a change which I have made to Jersey. I can assure you there are no cities on the island of Jersey. Danrok (talk) 18:03, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

I believe, but I guess we're using "City" instead of "Parish" here on WV. --Saqib (talk) 18:17, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
The two words are not interchangeable, and have an entirely different meaning. To describe a parish as a city is nonsensical. Can you provide a link to the relevant policy here? Danrok (talk) 18:30, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
Isn't parish is a church territorial unit and it has nothing to do with civilian administration. --Saqib (talk) 18:48, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
Depends on where you are; Louisiana has parishes instead of counties, for instance. LtPowers (talk) 19:47, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
In Jersey, parishes are administrative sub-divisions, each with it's own elected officials. See Danrok (talk) 12:05, 15 January 2013 (UTC)
Wikivoyage:Geographical hierarchy#Cities — in a nutshell, we don't see the need to fuss too much about the wording, but do have a need for consistent templates for the destination guides. I gather that Parishes are the administrative divisions of Jersey, not municipalities? If so, I would recommend handling this similar to how we divided up content on Barbados, i.e., only use a "regions" header, explain that the following divisions are known as "parishes," and try to keep the division simple, flat, and neat. Does that make sense?
No, referring to a village as a city does not make any sense. Apples are apples, not oranges. Danrok (talk) 12:09, 15 January 2013 (UTC)
Also, please move this discussion to Talk:Jersey. --Peter Talk 18:51, 12 January 2013 (UTC)
Alternatively, we could simplify the subdivisions drastically, since there are only 100,000 people living on the island, and try to limit the number of sub-destination guides to 3-4? --Peter Talk 18:54, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Driving in the NetherlandsEdit

Hi, may I know the reason for your removing of Netherlands#Driving_in_The_Netherlands and Netherlands#Urban_driving sections please. --Saqib (talk) 11:55, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

Dear Saqid, the text you referring to, was not in the right section according to me (it's not about get inthe Netherlands) . I just replaced most information under "Get Arround"!--VanuitVoorburg (talk) 12:07, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

Would you mind at least explaining that hard revert [2]? Did I get it wrong, in terms of location? JuliasTravels (talk) 20:29, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

Tanda is a small and rather un-touristy town in Gujrat district so wouldn't it be better if goes near to its respective article? --Saqib (talk) 20:45, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
Well, touristy or not isn't directly relevant here. I recently opened a topic about exactly that kind of cases (see the Pub), and it was explained that the current policy is that the lowest level region should contain links to every city article it contains, thus any given city should always be listed in its immediate parent region. If the list becomes too long, the region should be divided. That would be a good idea for Punjab, I think. But until someone creates such district articles, Tanda should be listed in Punjab too then. If you don't agree, feel free to discuss it further in the Pub. I would agree with you in principle, as you can see in that discussion, but it makes sense to deal with such places the same throughout Wikivoyage. If you know Punjab, it would be great if you could look into those districts further. But more in general, I suggest next time you at least explain when you revert a colleague, as it's unfriendly and not very constructive, this way ;-) Cheers, JuliasTravels (talk) 21:03, 23 March 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, if you mind my revert. Sure, next time, I will be more careful while reverting edits. Fyi, Gujrat is a district itself thus you can say it is the lowest level region article for Tanda. --Saqib (talk) 06:46, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply ;-) I was aware that Tanda is in Gujrat, but if I'm not mistaken we don't have a district article for Gujrat yet, only a city article for its capital. I saw you started a discussion about which/how many districts to use for the Punjab map. I would say whatever comes out of that discussion should also be the structure for the district-articles that should be created for Punjab. Gujrat (district) should probably be one of those ;-) I'll put a link to that Talk:Punjab_(Pakistan) in the Pub, hopefully some others will join in and we can speed up that process. I'm just no expert at all on Pakistan or on the creation of sub-regions/districts, so I can't be of much help. JuliasTravels (talk) 12:09, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

Any comment here?Edit

I have started work on an article that might eventually become "On the trail of Kipling's Kim" or some such title. The draft is at User:Pashley/Sandbox. Obviously, this could use comment from a Pakistani, and you are the first fairly active one I notice.

This is not urgent. The article is nowhere near done and not even under active development right now. Pashley (talk) 13:25, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

Sure, I will look into it. --Saqib (talk) 15:04, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

I have now moved it to main space as On the trail of Kipling's Kim. Pashley (talk) 19:49, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

Oh nice. It seems a nice piece of work and I would definitely read it when get some spare time but I'm sorry I couldn't able to contribute to this article due to my inactiveness. --Saqib (talk) 19:57, 23 April 2013 (UTC)

Deleting Hotel ArticlesEdit

These hotels have been deleted from the main Wikipedia site with everyone there, including administrators under the impression that Wikivoyage is the place for such articles? If you are telling me this is not! then this project is a waste of space and I will not waste my time contributing here. If this is the case Wikivoyage is doomed to failure, as articles on countries, resorts, places of interest can already be found in the pages of Wikipedia. Sorry to have interfered with your project!!!Cheeseladder (talk) 11:15, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

Off-course, you can add hotel listings in their respective articles but you can't create an article solely for a hotel unless the hotel is so large and complex but that's very rare. --Saqib (talk) 11:24, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
To my knowledge, there is no such article at all, nor should there be. Cheeseladder, if you want to create a Hotelwiki, go ahead and propose it, and I wish you lots of luck. Wikipedia articles about places of interest are not the same as Wikivoyage articles. Whether Wikivoyage is "doomed to failure" or not won't be up to you, but having lots of individual articles on hotels certainly is not a good way for a non-commercial site to try to flourish. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:21, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

A friendly reminder...Edit

...not to sweep discussions from the pub until they've been dormant for a month. I had seen the discussion on the restaurant listings in Novi Sad on the mobile site, and wanted to weigh in - but by the time I got home to a proper computer where I could edit Wikivoyage, it was swept away!

-- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 17:39, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

Yes, sorry, my mistake. --Saqib (talk) 19:42, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

Saqib, i started the discussion. jan (talk) 10:03, 22 April 2013 (UTC)

Saqib, i will under pressure to finalise my work until late July. I started a bit with DXB split up but it is very time consuming due to the clean-up. So much mosing... By the way, i replied to your question concerning the emirate/city split for AD and Sharjah. Feel free especially to plunge forward with Sharjah. I honestly only know the street crossing the emirate and that i'm not allowed to drink alocohol;) Regards, jan (talk) 12:18, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

Pakistan divisions articlesEdit

Hi, Saqib. If you're around, please look at the latest batch of divisions articles. [3] Are these divisions currently in existence? Should all the articles be summarily deleted, or subjected to Vfd?

All the best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:28, 25 May 2013 (UTC)

Sorry Ikan Keken, I didn't noticed these edits since I'm busy organising WLM in my country. I noticed all these edits as based on administrative division, which was abolished by Pakistan government after the reforms of 2000. Please see here. I don't know about others but In 2008, nine divisions of Punjab province and few divisions of Sindh province were restored again. I think it won't be bad idea if we use these old divisions to make articles hierarchy. --Saqib (talk) 08:17, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
Good luck with your efforts (what's WLM, in this case?), and thanks for the link. What about divisions that are at least partly in the Indian-administered part of Kashmir? Do you know if they currently exist? I find this whole thing very confusing. I guess what someone has to do is make up a list of the divisions and other administrative entities in Pakistan and India that IP users have created articles about, and then decide what to do with them. I am not familiar enough with Pakistan to have an easy time dealing with these, myself.
All the best,
Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:33, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
WLM (Wiki Love Monuments) is world's largest photo contest organised worldwide by Wikimedia chapters every year during September. If you asking me about Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, I don't know. By the way, don't worry, I'll try to make a list of divisions of Pakistan by tonight and let you know. --Saqib (talk) 08:45, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
Fantastic, on both counts! Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:04, 26 May 2013 (UTC)
List almost is done. --Saqib (talk) 09:26, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

Saqib, you do great work without ever asking for anything in return. I think you'd be a great admin if you chose to take on that responsibility. Let me know if you'd like to do that, in which case, I'll nominate you.

All the best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 05:17, 7 June 2013 (UTC)

Ikan, thanks for your vote of confidence in my work by suggesting that I be nominated as an admin. I really appreciate your offer and I'd like to have administrator tools to be able to fight spam. --Saqib (talk) 09:18, 7 June 2013 (UTC)
Seconded. Hurry up and nom him Ikan so I can support it! :P James Atalk 10:50, 7 June 2013 (UTC)
Oh thanks James. --Saqib (talk) 11:05, 7 June 2013 (UTC)
I'll get to the noms later this afternoon. I'm glad you'd like to take this on, Saqib. Ikan Kekek (talk) 15:12, 7 June 2013 (UTC)

On the trail of Kipling's KimEdit

I am not certain how much use this article, or On the trail of Marco Polo which is also mostly my writing, will be to anyone though they might help in travel planning. I do them mostly because they are fun to write.

I started one on Sinbad the Sailor (User:Pashley/Sandbox), but have pretty much lost interest in that. I might eventually do one on Harry Flashman, but I am not sure. Pashley (talk) 20:06, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

Happy writing. --Saqib (talk) 20:10, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

Goa's mapsEdit

Thanks! I've just replied you in the discussion. --Andyrom75 (talk) 15:43, 10 June 2013 (UTC)

You're welcome. --Saqib (talk) 15:45, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
I've seen that you are not registered in it:voy, please do it, so your messages will appear at your name instead of an anonymous IP. --Andyrom75 (talk) 16:19, 10 June 2013 (UTC)
I've update the map expedition page. Furthermore I've noticed that the Pakistan map needs the same "make-up" of the Goa's one. --Andyrom75 (talk) 14:15, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
I've modified the Pakistan map. --Saqib (talk) 15:06, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
Scary speed! :-) Look the last message on Wikivoyage_talk:Regions_map_Expedition. I've found one pending map. --Andyrom75 (talk) 17:40, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
I enjoy doing maps. Are you talking about map of Kyushu? --Saqib (talk) 17:56, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
Good to know, because it's one skill that I miss, so it's a perfect joint venture! ;-) I'm referring to Reunion (read above in the expedition discussion). --Andyrom75 (talk) 18:22, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
User AHeneen is already working on the map of Réunion so better if you ask him about the progress. Please just let me know if there is anything (else) I can do to help. --Saqib (talk) 18:33, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

Panorama on White Sands National MonumentEdit

Looking over the Wikivoyage image policy, a maximum image thumbnail of 400px for the lead photo is suggested. My panorama was wider than that limit. However, it's clear from other articles that using a panorama as a pagebanner is ok. The White Sands article needed a lead in image that gave a real impression of the scale and look of the place. --Footwarrior (talk) 21:00, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

I'll crop the panorama image and will add it to White Sands National Monument article as page banner. --Saqib (talk) 21:03, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
A suggestion on tact. You reverted my edit less that 10 minutes after added the page banner. My impression was that you were telling a newbie to shove off and leave this page alone. As a long time Wikipedia editor I found this rather strange behavior. The policy is to work with other editors, especially those who are new to the project. Fix the problems instead of using reversion to tear out the contributions of others. --Footwarrior (talk) 21:19, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
I'm really sorry for reverting your edit. --Saqib (talk) 21:31, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

South America RegionsEdit

I have another simple request, but this time is applicable for it:voy only, because en:voy has a different division.

In it:America del Sud I've prepared a new map that highlight 4 sub-continental region. But for each one of these four regions I need an appropriate map. Without them I've just reused the en:voy map.

Your activity should be pretty easy: properly cut the image & convert into grey the country not included in each of those region.

Let me know if I wasn't enough clear in the request. Thanks, --Andyrom75 (talk) 21:42, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

Sure. --Saqib (talk) 22:26, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
I've seen the first one. The color are ok, but I was thinking something different for the size. Look for example the maps used for the sub-continental region of Africa. For example Central Africa: there's an higher zoom and more info. --Andyrom75 (talk) 22:32, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
Done. --Saqib (talk) 22:52, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
Definitely nicer! In the same spirit you could do the other 3 maps. PS it:Utente:Courcelles is your account? --Andyrom75 (talk) 23:13, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
You need map of Brazil as well? I don't have an account on Italian WV yet and this account is not belongs to me. --Saqib (talk) 23:29, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
I've just ask because the map has been added by that account :-) ... anyway, Map of Brazil it's fine, the last missing is it:Guiana. --Andyrom75 (talk) 23:40, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
Actually the map file was renamed that's why the file name on Italian WV was changed by User:Courcelles. --Saqib (talk) 23:44, 11 June 2013 (UTC)
Ah, got it. Thank a lot for the new maps, now the articles look much more better. Do you think that could worth to enrich those maps with more details, likes major lakes/rivers/cities/others? --Andyrom75 (talk) 06:25, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
Obviously. --Saqib (talk) 08:28, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
Are you autonomous on this, or do you need some info from my side? --Andyrom75 (talk) 09:22, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
It would be easier for me if you give me a reference please. --Saqib (talk) 09:37, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
Ok, let's try with the first one, it:Guiana. From the maps in Suriname, French Guiana and Guyana, you can see where the major lakes, rivers, cities are, that you can make the Guiana map sligthly bigger, and insert those details. ...this is an idea, but if you have better idea, feel free to use it :-) --Andyrom75 (talk) 15:06, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
Is it fine for you? --Andyrom75 (talk) 22:18, 15 June 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, I've been very busy lately. Give me a day please. --Saqib (talk) 21:09, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
Sure no problem, take you time! :-) --Andyrom75 (talk) 22:45, 18 June 2013 (UTC)
Have you got any spare time for this map? --Andyrom75 (talk) 18:47, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Andy, unfortunately, I've forgotten to upload the SVG file of File:Map of South America (Guiana).png. --Saqib (talk) 19:05, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
Is it something that you are planning to do, or you'll give up? --Andyrom75 (talk) 23:18, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
Done. --Saqib (talk) 21:57, 13 July 2013 (UTC)

Galapagos IslandsEdit

There are three different contents in which we can write cruises for, budget, mid range, and splurge. My company offers all three of those, if I only publish under one, how will people know that we offer the other two? That is why I published Haugan Cruises under all three. I hope that's not a problem. Otherwise, this page is very unorganized and illogical for users to find out more information about the Galapagos and what type of cruises there are. —The preceding comment was added by Galapagos Luxury Cruises (talkcontribs)

But you should avoid duplicating a listing please. --Saqib (talk) 17:25, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

Laundry at SucreEdit

Hi Sakib,

I just noticed, that you have reverted my edit adding Laundry in Sucre. I am new to wikivoyage. What did I did wrong? What is the correct way how to mention this Laundry on wikivoyage?

Thank you in advance for your help, Radek

Hello Radek, welcome to Wikivoyage and thanks for contributing to Sucre. Please avoid first-person pronouns. See Wikivoyage:Use of pronouns. --Saqib (talk) 18:15, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
Hi Sakib, thanks for info. I updated the article. No we inside. Is it appropriate to mention, who recommend the service to us or somehow justify the quality? The current text is probably more wikivoyage correct, but I feel it is less informative then previous one. Thanks Radek --Radekdostal (talk) 18:26, 13 June 2013 (UTC)
Good attempt Radek. I think it's totally fine now. --Saqib (talk) 18:36, 13 June 2013 (UTC)

New adminEdit

My condolences, Sakib, on your demotion to janitor ;) I have flipped your switch. I would encourage you to read over the Wikivoyage:Administrator's handbook, which has a combination of reminders about relevant local policies governing use of admin tools, and tips on how to use them effectively. While I'm fully confident you are familiar with the various relevant policy pages, it never hurts to reread Wikivoyage:How to handle unwanted edits (in particular), Wikivoyage:Deletion policy, and Wikivoyage:Protected pages. Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have! --Peter Talk 17:40, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

I am honored to be a janitor here, Peter. I'll fully comply with policies and guidelines and will use the powers with discretion. --Saqib (talk) 18:27, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
My commiserations, too Saqib! (Don't let the missus know!) -- Alice 17:46, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
Grats from me too! Use it well (as I'm sure you will). James Atalk 12:30, 22 June 2013 (UTC)

Pagebanner - Aspect ratioEdit

Thanks for the info. I just uploaded a new banner for Platamon. Its aspect ratio is 7:1 however its resolution is higher than 2100:300. Could you please check it and tell me if it's ok?--  Alien ? 14:13, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

It's absolutely fine now. --Saqib (talk) 17:35, 23 June 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for removing that stuff from the page linked in the header. I was trying to do that thinking it was copyrighted, but I kept getting edit conflicts because the guy kept making little tiny revisions to it instead of using Show preview. In the process of writing this thank-you note, I just reverted the user again, heh. Anyway, thanks again. TCN7JM 07:45, 24 June 2013 (UTC)

No problem and thanks to you too for your help reverting vandalism. --Saqib (talk) 07:49, 24 June 2013 (UTC)

Saqib, I believe you skipped a step when you archived the Template:Done VfD. The discussion is supposed to be copied to the talk page of any kept articles or templates. LtPowers (talk) 02:07, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, missed the point. --Saqib (talk) 06:40, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

Photo huntEdit

Hey Saqib, I left you a note in my edit summary on Mexico City/Centro, but thought I'd mention it here too. Per Wikivoyage:Cleanup#Photo hunt!, we're trying to leave the redlinked images, so we know for which subjects we need to find new photos. In other words, if we remove the redlinks, we won't always know what sort of images to replace the old ones with. --Peter Talk 17:33, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

Got it Peter. Sorry for the inconvenience caused. --Saqib (talk) 17:36, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

My real life identityEdit

I'm writing to you because you were the first one to welcome me to Wikivoyage and I also see from "stalking" your edits that you seem to be more genuinely interested in developing a useful travel guide (rather than playing silly ego games) than many other admins here.

Currently there seem to be a whole bunch of editors (many who should know better) who are being diverted from our primary goals by speculating on who I am and who I'm not. User:Rschen7754 has clarified that this time-wasting speculation is unfortunately not going to be resolved by a check user request so I would ask the following favour:

May I (under a promise of confidentiality from you) e-mail you scans of my Irish birth certificate, Northern Ireland Electoral Identity Card and other personal ID so that you can assist in putting all this nonsense to bed? -- 13:27, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

Thank you!Edit

Hey, thanks for the autopatrolled rights. I'll try to come upto your expectation levels! ;-) Rahul Bott (talk) 17:30, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

You're welcome Rahul, happy travels and happy editing. --Saqib (talk) 17:39, 27 June 2013 (UTC)

Luxembourg mapEdit

Hi Saqib - got your message about the Luxembourg SVG. This looks like it at Commons: File:Luxembourg.svg. I think I've forgotten to upload the SVGs for a few maps, so if you come across another one that you need, let me know. Cheers -Shaundd (talk) 04:08, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

Deletion discussionsEdit

Saqib, I'm not sure you're closing VfDs according to policy.

Take Category talk:Hatnote templates#VfD. Our policy is that pages are guilty until proven innocent; that is, there must be a clear consensus to keep a page. There was no such consensus on this discussion. The discussion should have been left in place or the category should have been deleted.

Please revert your closure ASAP.

-- LtPowers (talk) 12:53, 8 July 2013 (UTC)

Sorry LtPowers, but I'm still in the learning process. Btw, you could had reverted it on your own. --Saqib (talk) 08:45, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
It's not usually considered proper to revert other admins' actions before discussing them, unless they are truly egregious. I understand you are still learning, but you did promise to follow policy when you became an admin. LtPowers (talk) 13:38, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
But I didn't violated any policy. Did I? --Saqib (talk) 13:42, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
I wouldn't use the word "violated", but Wikivoyage:Deletion policy says "Other contributors can discuss whether the article or image should be deleted. Articles and images are presumed guilty until proven innocent. After fourteen (14) days of discussion, if a consensus is reached to retain an article, it won't be deleted. Otherwise it will be deleted by an administrator." In other words, if there's no consensus to keep, then the discussion should not be closed with a "keep" result. LtPowers (talk) 20:42, 9 July 2013 (UTC)

Maps requestEdit

Hi Saqib,

According to you available time, I'm writing you to request a couple of maps:

  1. Guiana (South American) that we were talking in the past: basically to enrich the current one with details
  2. Creta (Greece): it's a new map. You can be inspired by this one, or other similar that you can find online. This map will be implemented also in the en article.

Let me know, --Andyrom75 (talk) 07:06, 13 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi Andy, I've created map for Crete and enriched Guiana map. --Saqib (talk) 17:17, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks! At least now there's something on the map :-) --Andyrom75 (talk) 18:52, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

This gave me a good chuckle ;) --Peter Talk 22:13, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

Map requestEdit

Hello Saqib! As you're probably more familiar with South Asia's geography than the any other map maker; here's an article that could use one or a few maps: On_the_trail_of_Kipling's_Kim. ϒpsilon (talk) 16:48, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I'm willing to make a map for this article, but this article already have a map. --Saqib (talk) 17:13, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
Great! I realize I should've included a link to the talk page of the article, Pashley indeed has added a map but he says it's "far from ideal". A good map would be one that is made in particular for this article and include also the smaller cities and places discussed in the article. ϒpsilon (talk) 17:29, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
If you say so, I'll make a Wikivoyage-styled map of it. --Saqib (talk) 17:44, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for your mail, however I think a better idea would be to put the map somewhere everyone can see it e.g. in User:Saqib/Maps (if you upload it locally on Wikivoyage, not on Commons, you can delete it afterwards if necessary because you're an administrator) . Especially Pashley who in practice has written the whole article would probably like to take a look. ϒpsilon (talk) 09:15, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Map has been uploaded. See File:On the trail of Kipling's Kim.png. --Saqib (talk) 11:25, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
Quite good looking! And also the green color goes well together with the many greenish pictures in the article. ϒpsilon (talk) 15:02, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
Let's move the discussion to the article's talk page: Talk:On_the_trail_of_Kipling's_Kim#Map.28s.29.3F ϒpsilon (talk) 16:06, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
Sure. --Saqib (talk) 16:12, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Lovely new map!Edit

Thanks for the lovely new "Scotland district map.svg" map Saqib!

Hi, can you help me?Edit

I want to report that the user called Ikan Kekek annoys users unnecessarily, I want to report this user with privileges who apparently likes to use his privileges to block accounts to any user without any proper reason.

Thank you for your help. --Theryx7 (talk) 02:38, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

I still haven't blocked you, despite your edit warring and intemperate and abusive response to requests to engage in substantive discussions on Talk:Colombia and, finally, warnings. And now you think you can divide one admin from the others? I assure you, that won't work. Just be cooperative. Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:16, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Saqib, i just saw that you added UserJejumaster on the user ban nomination page. Blocks that are less than a day can be used without prior nomination per our policy [[4]]. Only if someone challenges that move (not the offender) then a nomination is needed. Cases like this offender works best with a couple of shorter but increasing blocks, e.g. starting with 15-30 mins, then 30-35min and then two hours. There is no perfect strategy but my experience is that frequent shorter blocks annoy marketeers more than one longer block. I will archieve your nomination. Regards, jan (talk) 09:24, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Deletion policyEdit

Hi Saqib. I saw that you nominated Wikivoyage:ShareMap for VfD on July 6th, then unilaterally redirected all its content to on the 18th, before the discussion period was closed. In future, please wait the prescribed 14 days before taking action on VfD's. -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 03:21, 20 July 2013 (UTC)

That's strange, André.
Looking at the edit history of Wikivoyage:ShareMap, I can not see any re-directs being made for it at all, and especially none by Saqib. I do see him quite properly placing the Vfd template notice there on 6 July 2013 when he nominated it for deletion.
I do see relevant information about the ShareMap website in that sub section - but that information has been there since before Saqib's nomination.
Perhaps Saqib's comment of 18 July 2013 that "Information has been moved " was merely meant in the helpful sense of I see that most of the relevant information in this Vfd'ed article is already present in the sub section. ?
PS: Changing the topic entirely, I have now added some images to Nelson (England) that should make it clearer that one currently has no commercial sleeping opportunities there and why few visitors would consider it as a travel destination. Even if one were interested in industrial or urban decay, I can think of better locations in my home city of Glasgow that do not have an article. Even if Nelson (England) escapes deletion because my objection to it remaining is discounted (I do hope it doesn't) then I'm still not going to create those strange articles about Castlemilk or Drumchapel. I'd much rather see the Vfd policy of "one persistent vote for Vfd kills the Vfd candidate" even in the face of many rational objections, changed.--W. Franke-mailtalk 09:13, 20 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks Frank for the clarification on behalf of me. And you're right, I didn't moved the ShareMap information to that sub-section as well. That was added by User:(WT-en)_JackMapper in May 2012. Andre, please change your comment here. Btw, why you're not closing VfD's properly? You didn't redirected Wikivoyage:ShareMap as Pashley said. Also, you are not placing the VfD result on the talk pages of the kept pages and sometimes you forget to remove the VfD template.--Saqib (talk) 12:41, 20 July 2013 (UTC)
André:I'd better point out (quite redundantly -please forgive me André and Saquib) that Saquib's first language is not English and his comment above is only intended as a gentle reminder and in no way as a reprimand. We're all fallible and it's sometimes difficult to give that light touch on the shoulder or cheeky grin that puts comments in context or scale when we're not communcicationg face-to-face, eh? Keep cool! (It's 26 degrees in Glasgow here today - almost a record!) --W. Franke-mailtalk 13:17, 20 July 2013 (UTC)

Sorry about that, it was a foolish mistake on my part. The consensus seems to be redirect, so I'll edit the VfD archive page accordingly. -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 15:02, 20 July 2013 (UTC)

Listen, Saqib (and W. Frank, and anyone else who may be reading this). I know I've been making a lot of sloppy mistakes lately in my duties as an administrator. Without going into too much detail regarding my off-wiki life, my mother has breast cancer and is beginning chemotherapy treatments in two weeks, I'm putting in a ridiculous amount of hours at work, and my living room is still full of half-unpacked boxes after having moved to this apartment on June 1st because the sheer amount of stuff I have to deal with has prevented me from fully unpacking. All this stress has affected the quality of decisions I've made and the number of obvious mistakes that have flown over my head, and it's also caused me to snap at people with little provocation, as I did here, and for which I apologize to you, Saqib.
I enjoy working on articles on Wikivoyage, as it is my chance to escape from all that for a little while. But perhaps it'd be best for me to curtail my activities as an admin for a while. I don't want to have the tools taken away from me, and I may chime in from time to time on administrative issues, but I guess what's more important is for me to focus more attention on the immediate pressing issues in my off-wiki life. Again, I apologize.
-- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 03:02, 21 July 2013 (UTC)
Don't be sorry again Andre. I am so sorry to hear about your mother. May Allah give your mother a swift recovery. --Saqib (talk) 12:33, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi Saqib - one comment on the VFD that was just completed for Prq. In general unless something is obvious spam, vandalism or inappropriate content it shouldn't be deleted after just a couple of hours on the VFD page. See Wikivoyage:Deletion policy#Speedy deletion - in this case, a speedy delete might be justified under the "articles that cannot possibly ever be destinations or travel topics" provision, but if there is any doubt it is usually standard practice to solicit comments on the VFD page for a long enough period to allow the creator and any other interested parties to comment. In this case, there really may not be such a place in Mongolia and the article thus deserves to be deleted, but since there wasn't 100% certainty it would have been better to wait before actually deleting. Hopefully that makes sense - I don't want to deter you, but at the same time it's important to strike a balance between keeping the site free of garbage and allowing people to provide feedback. -- Ryan • (talk) • 16:16, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

Well noted Ryan. Sorry for being so hasty. Do you want me to undo my deletion of the said page? --Saqib (talk) 16:25, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
If anyone asks for the article to be restored then it should be, but I don't think you need to restore it otherwise. My comment above was mainly made to ensure that VFDs aren't regularly closed after such a short period - in general if something is worth listing on the VFD page then it's probably worth giving it a few days (if not the full two weeks) for discussion. -- Ryan • (talk) • 16:40, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
I've notified Frank, the creator of "Prq" page, if he'll say, I'll undo my deletion and will be very careful the next time. --Saqib (talk) 16:53, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
I didn't want to go into hospital without writing clearly that Saqib did notify me of the speedy deletion, and I think that was absolutely the correct thing to do (even if it's against current policy to do that with real places {which should either have to wait indefinitely for some substantive and useful information to be added OR instead be re-directed - although it can be difficult bordering on impossible to redirect if the creator of the page did not provide sufficient information in the stupid stub to even know with certainty where it is}.
I created Prq (spelling varies depending on the transliteration system one is using and other alternative spellings are better known in Russian or Mandarin) purely to illustrate (in another VFD discussion about Nelson) the deficiencies in making it so easy for "drive-by" editors to create one click, one line "articles" with one click skeleton creation templates that automatically grade the subsequent useless stub as an "Outline" article.
Both you, Ryan, and Saqib are correct in this instance (except that, my understanding of current policy is, you should always wait a minimum of 14 days before closing a deletion of anything other than a "speedy delete" and not just "a few days" { - when I come out of hospital next week, I'll want to comment more on the Vfd for Nelson}).
Saquib is usually very punctilious and fair and one of a decreasing minority that bother to notify the creator of an article or even actually apply a Vfd template! --W. Franke-mailtalk 21:10, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
Frank, Is everything fine? Why you going to the hospital? --Saqib (talk) 21:17, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
I'm old (I was born in the closing years of the second world war remember and, although nobody knows my real birth time, my Dresden birth certificate certainly means I am in my seventh decade on the face of this planet), tired (certainly of all this Poking and Prodding) and my leg has been bad for many years now. When I get out I am absolutely determined to resolve this Puppet nonsense or die trying. Looking on the bright side it's a bit cooler now in Glasgow and I won't have to cook for myself for a bit. --W. Franke-mailtalk 21:33, 22 July 2013 (UTC)
I look forward to seeing you back soon. Take care. --Saqib (talk) 22:32, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

Why is Roatán been nominated for deletion. I cannot find an entry at Wikivoyage:Votes for deletion. --Traveler100 (talk) 21:44, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

New templatesEdit

Saqib, per policy, new templates must be tagged as experimental, and used on no more than one page for testing/evaluation purposes. I have reverted all but one use of Template:archive top and Template:archive bottom and tagged them as experimental. Please create a consensus for using these new templates before adding them to dozens of pages. LtPowers (talk) 17:28, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

Nelson, England vfdEdit

Usually 14 days from date of nomination are allowed before assessing a consensus to keep, delete or merge. Since that would be the 2 August 2013, I wonder if you would restore the vfd to allow me to make some comments I have been preparing while I was in hospital? Thank you! --W. Franke-mailtalk 13:52, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

Welcome back Frank, hope you doing well. The article was nominated for deletion on July 17th thus the nomination was closed right after 14 days. --Saqib (talk) 14:48, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

Topics in... VfDsEdit

Saqib, if you deleted Topics in South America, you should have deleted the others as well. Just because Ryan was the only one to copy his comments to each section doesn't mean the same arguments don't apply. LtPowers (talk) 15:44, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

I thought nobody wanted others pages to get deleted thats why nobody commented thus I didn't deleted them and I'll still refrain myself deleting them. --Saqib (talk) 15:47, 7 August 2013 (UTC)

I have done some work on that article recently, think it is now fairly complete. However, you are our most active editor from the region so I wonder if you have comments. Pashley (talk) 12:21, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

No comments Pashley, as I don't know much about this route but I must say you've done good work. Keep it up! Btw, what about mentioning the name of the cities in the article situated overland along this Silk Road? --Saqib (talk) 12:33, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Your retirementEdit

Without knowing the reasons for your retirement, I don't know whether to congratulate you or commiserate with you, Saqib! (e-mail me your reason(s) if you feel able to...)

I hope the pain diminishes soon. At least you seem to have Wi-Fi access and your wits are not dulled. We all wish you that you heal quickly and completely, Saqib! --W. Franke-mailtalk 14:09, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
Just to say, sorry to hear about your accident; I hope you get better soon! :) --Nick talk 14:24, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
Get well soon, Saqib! Danapit (talk) 14:33, 29 August 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for your wishes. --Saqib (talk) 07:23, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
Hi Saqib, I was passing by for some stuff and I've red about your accident. I'm very sorry about it, but considering your status it's seem that it has been a very bad accident, so I'm glad to see that you still have enough strenght to chat with us. I wish you to best recovery. Take care and see you soon! --Andyrom75 (talk) 11:50, 30 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Andy, thanks for your concerns and well wishes. Yes, it was a really serious accident, I got spinal fractures and a fracture on foot. Doctors recommended strict bed rest for few weeks. There's nothing much to do while in bed so I'll keep visiting WV but unfortunately, I won't be able to contribute much to site because I can't properly sit and while typing I feel some pain in my hand as well. --Saqib (talk) 12:46, 30 August 2013 (UTC)

Sad to hear what happened to you and hopefully you'll get well quickly. (And of course it's nice that you didn't retire) ϒpsilon (talk) 16:35, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
Wow, that's really horrible. Perhaps a voice-command program can be downloaded from somewhere, to help you amuse yourself while you recover. I hope you have full range of motion after your bed rest is finished. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:48, 30 August 2013 (UTC)
Don't worry now about WV, there's nothing more precious than your life. I wish you a quick recovery, and as soon as it happens give me a whistle. We'll be more than glad to see you back on track! ;-) A friendly warm embrace. --Andyrom75 (talk) 09:06, 1 September 2013 (UTC)
Just wanted to say… Thank you Andy. Sure, will definitely inform you guys when I'll be out of bed. Have a great day! --Saqib (talk) 09:26, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

I hope you're feeling a bit better now, Saqib.

Have they given you an idea when they expect you to be able to get out of bed? --W. Frankemailtalk 21:42, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

Many thanks for your concerns Frank. I'm out of bed already but since the leg cast is still on, I'm staying at home. I've medical check-up on Monday and I wish they will remove the cast after examining X-rays. --Saqib (talk) 22:17, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi! I don't know if you're planning to be back, but if so, can you please send me an email at your earliest convenience? Hope all is well. --Rschen7754 06:23, 26 August 2013 (UTC)

How dare you delete my page about Larfistan? It is a real country where everyone larfs. Don't ever block me from Wikivoyage again, nor block any of my socks. Editing is fun. You are the vandal, not me. I just make pages. You delete them. Destroying other people's hard work without their permission is vandalism. Otherwise I could just go to your house and break everything claiming I'm an "administrator" and you "vandalized" your house by putting your stuff in it, and then kick you out of your house and it would be ok. PotatoFinsofDoom (talk) 13:46, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

You have nerveEdit

Bad jokes and other deleted nonsenseEdit

Do you know about Wikivoyage's funniest page? Looking at the vandal's various outbreaks on your talk page, I guess "Larfistan"'s content also was idiotic enough to be copied into a section or even a subpage of that page before deletion. ϒpsilon (talk) 15:19, 18 September 2013 (UTC)

I'm not sure about it, but if you think, that can be added to this page. --Saqib (talk) 16:53, 18 September 2013 (UTC)

Saqib, was fun to race to zero with you. As you outnumbered me on edits 1:4 i leave you the please to call Mission accomplished. Regards and good night, jan (talk) 16:06, 23 September 2013 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Monuments BannersEdit

Hi; I noticed that Wikivoyage currently has two simultaneous banners up for Wiki Loves Monuments -- one via CentralNotice and one via a Sitenotice. It seems odd to me, so is that what was really intended? If not; Romaine is the contact for the CentralNotice banner and I can help with coding if so desired. Mwalker (WMF) (talk) 00:11, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi Walker, I've removed the Sitenotice. Thanks for letting me know. --Saqib (talk) 05:06, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Baan AmphurEdit

I marked this article for speedy deletion. You reverted it. The Wiki Speedy Deletion Template plainly states "If you believe this article does not meet the criteria for speedy deletion, replace this notice with a {{vfd}} notice and nominate this article for deletion on the Votes for deletion page." Thus, rather than a revert, I think it would be more productive and less inflammatory to just follow this guidance. Seligne (talk) 15:15, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

I apologies for my hard revert, but frankly speaking I haven't read that note on the template. Btw, you're an admin and you can simply delete an article if you think it should be speedy deleted rather than inserting speedy deletion template in it. --Saqib (talk) 15:23, 24 September 2013 (UTC)
Frankly, Saqib, when I saw the original article I couldn't believe my eyes. I was wanting another set of eyeballs to ensure I was not in error. Thanx, Seligne (talk) 00:10, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
I could not believe: 1. That I could have missed seeing an article as crappy as this. 2. How the article contains zero useful info. 3. That this article has been around for a good while, imported from WT and no one has deep-sixed it. 4. There is no such place as Ban Amphur. Seligne (talk) 16:22, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
I wonder if you know about Ban Muang Kut article. --Saqib (talk) 16:35, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for pointing it out! I was not aware of it as it is not tethered to any region, only to Thailand. I will dig into it. Seligne (talk) 09:36, 26 September 2013 (UTC)

Having searched documentation, I still have no clue how to delete an article. Can you point me in the right direction? Seligne (talk) 11:17, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
Look for a down arrow or triangle next to the "View History" tab. If you mouse over the triangle you should see "delete", "move", and "protect". Click the delete action to delete the page. --Saqib (talk) 11:33, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
Thank you. Seligne (talk) 12:19, 26 September 2013 (UTC)

Empty outlinesEdit

Hi, Saqib. I wanted to see if you were aware of the current discussion at Wikivoyage talk:Deletion policy#Summary; it involves some recent deletions you carried out. LtPowers (talk) 00:51, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I'm aware of that discussion. Please let me know if I made mistakes while deleting the articles? --Saqib (talk) 07:46, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
Well, in short, yes; you deleted articles that had content beyond what the agreement was limited to. We've undeleted some of them, but we haven't yet gone through all of them to see if any others need to be undeleted. Your help and input would be appreciated. LtPowers (talk) 12:30, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
Yes, when I realised that I deleted some articles that were not meant for deletion, I restored them and I will restore few more when I get some time. Sorry for the inconvenience caused. --Saqib (talk) 13:47, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
Hello, just to say thanks in general despite the mishaps. It was a fairly huge task to be undertaken within a couple of days and I didn't fancy doing all by my lonesome. -- torty3 (talk) 14:08, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
LtPowers, I've restored all the articles I deleted on September 25th which contain some listings. --Saqib (talk) 14:39, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, Saqib! LtPowers (talk) 01:30, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

Dear Saqib,

i don't want to start the bitter discussion again, that currently breaks this community. You asked my why i leave, so to create transparency, i reply on-wiki. In essence to points make me bitter

  1. Consistency: In my religion it is called: Preaching water, drink wine Several admins here prefer to second guess me but don't act if they are provided with ample evidence of Frank's games
  2. Trust: As my first ban nomination proved beside Ikan, no one really got engaged. Still there was ample advice about policy. I rather now call the losses and leave instead of continuing bullshit bingo here

All the best for you, jan (talk) 08:26, 2 October 2013 (UTC)

Sorry to see you go Jan. Please seriously re-consider returning in some capacity. --Saqib (talk) 08:31, 2 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing my typo. Cheers, • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 09:57, 2 October 2013 (UTC)

Not a problem Peter. --Saqib (talk) 11:00, 2 October 2013 (UTC)

Contact UsEdit

Can you provide some background on what the new "contact us" link is meant to be? In general if someone has a question they should be using the pub or a talk page, so I'm not sure we should be advertising an email address, and especially not in the left nav. Do you know who answers those emails? I was unaware that emails would get a response, so it might make sense to include that information, but I'm concerned with the current approach. -- Ryan • (talk) • 19:26, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

The emails actually go to m:OTRS, and I have access to the queue (as do a few others). Sometimes people like to email in questions (and some people have), but of course stuff like appealing a block or requesting edits usually gets referred back onwiki. --Rschen7754 19:28, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
I would think that could go in a less prominent place, perhaps somewhere under the help page, since it is not a preferred method for interaction on most subjects. Texugo (talk) 19:35, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
Wikipedia and Commons do have a contact us page with e-mail address provided so I thought we're missing contact us page and we should publicise our e-mail address as well. I agree with you that questions should be asked on-wiki but what if one don't want to post a question on-wiki? --Saqib (talk) 19:38, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
(edit conflict) Since email should be used for a very rare number of cases I'm going to remove this from the left nav, otherwise I'm concerned that new users with a question will use email as their primary method of communication instead of asking questions on-wiki. I think there is probably value in a "contact us" page, but it would need to be more akin to w:Wikipedia:Contact us that makes clear that email is to be used only in cases where on-wiki communication is not a viable option. -- Ryan • (talk) • 19:39, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
You're right. --W. Frankemailtalk 21:39, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi Saqib! Sorry for not correcting Purplebackpack89's banner on sight - I know what to do in future now! How's your convalescence going? :) --Nick talk 19:43, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

That's absolutely fine Nick. No need to be sorry. I just thought maybe User:Purplebackpack89 won't be able to crop the image but anyway xe did it. I had check up yesterday, fortunately cast has been removed but not yet allowed to use the affected foot for a month more until it is fully healed. Btw, I wonder if you noticed my itinerary. --Saqib (talk) 20:00, 15 October 2013 (UTC)
Very nice itinerary! It's nice to see someone using My Voyage! Thanks for all your support for the idea! --Nick talk 20:13, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

Bon voyage, Saqib!Edit

(You wrote that you're "...planning to visit all the chapters of Wikimedia throughout the world. The purpose of my visit is to meet the local Wikimedians community and spreading the word about Wikivoyage. There are some 40 chapters currently exist in the world, with at least one chapter on every continent (except Antarctica). I can't tell where the journey will end but I will start it from Germany. Wikimedia's German chapter was the first chapter to be created and currently the biggest chapter with over 6,000+ members.") --W. Frankemailtalk 20:08, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks Frank but right now it is a daydream and I really wish if I would able to make it happen sooner or later. --Saqib (talk) 20:17, 15 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi Saqib, as part of my quest to clean up the South Korean region of Gangwon I was going to create the city article for Yangyang. However I noticed that you actually deleted this on the 23rd September 2013. Do you have any objection if I create again with some content? --Andrewssi2 (talk) 10:59, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

Sure, go ahead and re-create it. --Saqib (talk) 11:07, 16 October 2013 (UTC)

Difficult UserEdit

Hi Saqib, I noticed user‎ is making a lot of changes to the map making expedition that you are rejecting. I'm fairly sure this is an Australian based user that we've have issue with in the past. See: User_talk:Ikan_Kekek#Same commuting Ozzie

Since they have been unresponsive in the past, there may be a case for a user ban for a few days to get their attention. What to you think? --Andrewssi2 (talk) 12:05, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi Andrew, this user actually never responded to any of the messages that have been left on the talk pages of any of the IPs that xe has edited from and Xe still adding incomplete listings using different IP addresses. This is quite frustrating. --Saqib (talk) 12:32, 19 October 2013 (UTC)
Yes, although most of their changes were annoying and never seemed malicious. I think the sustained editing on the map expedition may be reason enough however for a 3 day ban? (Just maybe get their attention) --Andrewssi2 (talk) 12:39, 19 October 2013 (UTC)
Why not, BTW, I was wondering whether do we have three-revert rule on this wiki. --Saqib (talk) 13:15, 19 October 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. Nomination is here if you would care to support: Wikivoyage:User_ban_nominations#User:
What is three-revert rule? Is that persistent edit warring? --Andrewssi2 (talk) 13:41, 19 October 2013 (UTC)
You can read here what is the three-revert rule. --Saqib (talk) 15:06, 19 October 2013 (UTC)

Hello, Saqib!

I have a comment about your recent addition to the Discover section. The fun facts in the Discover section need to be present in the article linked to from the Discover section. Now the Bihar article doesn't mention the village Pakistan and Purnia doesn't even have an article. A while ago you added a fact about an island near Gwadar and afterwards I added that fact to the Gwadar article because it wasn't there. The whole idea about Discover is to get the reader interested in the articles behind the links, like "Did you know" on Wikipedia's main page. (ps. sorry if I sounded a bit harsh, that wasn't my intention :)) ϒpsilon (talk) 09:53, 20 October 2013 (UTC)

Frankly speaking, If I remember I was about to write about this fun fact in Bihar article but I missed it somehow. Anyway, thank you for your reminding me of that, I'll do it now and thanks for your good work on Discover section, keep it up. --Saqib (talk) 14:01, 20 October 2013 (UTC)

Take a look, --Andyrom75 (talk) 12:33, 21 October 2013 (UTC)

I've fixed that map. --Saqib (talk) 13:01, 21 October 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, now it works. Please last modification: write "San Pietroburgo" this way (and not with all the capital letters). Thanks. PS Another great job! ;-) --Andyrom75 (talk) 19:59, 21 October 2013 (UTC)
Pretty close to perfection, just one miss: the title. France => Francia. --Andyrom75 (talk) 08:54, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
Done. --Saqib (talk) 09:28, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
Oh sorry, I've just noticed one more thing to be corrected: "Le Mont-Saint-Michel" into "Mont Saint-Michel". Thanks, --Andyrom75 (talk) 11:16, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
But on Italian Wikipedia, the title is "Le Mont-Saint-Michel". Anyway, I've changed it to "Mont Saint-Michel". --Saqib (talk) 11:29, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
There are two different but similar articles. "Le Mont-Saint-Michel" it's the administrative city while "Mont-Saint-Michel" it's just the island (included in the city), but it's just this one the main attraction and a UNESCO site. That's why I've asked you this change.
I take the chance to ask you to change the English map of it:Repubblica Democratica del Congo because the Kananga city has been mispelled into Kinanga. PS Kinanga is another (small) city situated in the west part of the Western DRC region. --Andyrom75 (talk) 20:46, 22 October 2013 (UTC)
Done. --Saqib (talk) 07:09, 23 October 2013 (UTC)
mmm... it seems that the mispelled has remained, but now the map it's not clear anymore like the previous one and it seems to be blurred. Can you fix it? --Andyrom75 (talk) 10:06, 23 October 2013 (UTC)
I don't see it is blurred. Please clear your browser cache so you can load the latest image. BTW, I've just finished the new and improved map for Pakistan. --Saqib (talk) 13:38, 23 October 2013 (UTC)
Now it's clear (thanks), but the title of the map (DR Congo) is longer than the width of the blue rectangle. Can you fix it? --Andyrom75 (talk) 16:58, 23 October 2013 (UTC)
Done. --Saqib (talk) 17:15, 23 October 2013 (UTC)
Regarding the Pakistan map, I suggest you to keep the original color because it has an impact on all the interlingual articles. On the other hand, if you wanna change them, you should update all the affected articles in order to keep the consistency between the text and the image. --Andyrom75 (talk) 17:02, 23 October 2013 (UTC)
Well, I'm using standard colours, so I will fix the affected articles. --Saqib (talk) 17:15, 23 October 2013 (UTC)
Thanks a lot. --Andyrom75 (talk) 17:25, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Visible labels:

  • Troy => Troia
  • Ephesus => Efeso

Regarding the region names that you have temporary omitted, you can use the ones stated in the it:voy article. --Andyrom75 (talk) 10:15, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Both labels fixed. Actually I had removed the regions labels since the region list template already shows the color coded region list but anyway, I've restored the region labels in the map. --Saqib (talk) 13:54, 23 October 2013 (UTC)

Listing redoEdit

Hi Saqib, it is true that I added ONCE listing to multiple articles, because of not having idea that it is prohibited. I repeatedly try to add listing to the Thessaloniki's Yachting section, as other company already has it's listing there. So please allow one listing there. —The preceding comment was added by Wikigreece (talkcontribs) 18:30, 27 October 2013‎ (UTC)

Sure, you're allowed to add a listing in Thessaloniki article and btw, please remember to sign your comments next time with four tildes. --Saqib (talk) 18:49, 27 October 2013 (UTC)

Val CamonicaEdit

I see that you deleted this page, I have recreated it: is enought to not be deleted? Could you also check links to wikipedia and commons (I don't see it)? Thanks --Lkcl it (talk) 17:25, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi, it was deleted per here. Thanks for re-creating it. Both the WP and Commons links working for me. --Saqib (talk) 17:30, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

Central West Brazil mapEdit

Hey Saqib, thanks so much for the new map! Texugo (talk) 19:42, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

My pleasure. --Saqib (talk) 19:44, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

Brazil mapsEdit

Hi Saqib. Thanks for expressing interest in helping with Brazil maps. Now we have all the top level division maps. I have been trying to get state maps going, and have covered the states in the South and Southwest regions. States in the other regions have not all been clearly subdivided, but if you want to help, you might start with Bahia, which has a basic map of the regions to start from, and Ceará and Pernambuco, which both have suggested regional breakdowns on their talk pages. We also need maps for São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro... I'll try to get back to you with more ideas when I have time. Thanks for volunteering! Texugo (talk) 20:04, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I noticed states lacks maps are actually not yet districtified. Anyway, I'll start with Bahia map now. --Saqib (talk) 20:21, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
I see you've started maps for Bahia and Pernambuco - thanks! They will both need a little further editing to add roads and cities etc., of course, so I'd like to ask you to, if possible, follow the layered approach set out at Wikivoyage:How_to_draw_a_map, so that these are easier to edit collaboratively and easier to make alternate language versions for. Also note that we do not directly use the svg files in our articles - the svg files will ultimately contain various language layers, so you need to export a png with the english layer for use here. Plus, the svgs generally screw up the fonts if you use them directly anyway. I went ahead and did a png for Bahia and Pernambuco, though I haven't split the svg file into the standard layers... Anyway, thanks again for helping out with these! Texugo (talk) 12:36, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
Well noted. --Saqib (talk) 12:42, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. By the way, if you are interested in doing more, the states of Acre, Rondonia, Amapá, Roraima, and Tocantins will probably never need subregions, so you can make a plain undistricted map for each state if you want. Texugo (talk) 12:48, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
I will look into them. --Saqib (talk) 13:05, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
Cool. I just noticed that the map scale for the Pernambuco map indicates that the whole state is only about 4-5 km wide. Could you maybe fix it? Texugo (talk) 13:09, 29 October 2013 (UTC)
Done. --Saqib (talk) 15:15, 29 October 2013 (UTC)

How's it going?Edit

I'm glad to see you so actively participating. How's your recovery going? Ikan Kekek (talk) 18:06, 30 October 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for asking my friend. I'm recovering well however not yet allowed to put weight on fractured foot. Going to checkup again with doctor this upcoming Monday and then flying to Dubai on Tuesday to renew my UAE residence visa. --Saqib (talk) 18:30, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
Good luck! Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:02, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. BTW, do you have any idea how can I get rid of the WT attribution in Archaeological Ruins at Moenjodaro. --Saqib (talk) 21:13, 30 October 2013 (UTC)

I think this would make a fine DotM candidate, but it needs Guide status & currently does not have it. I'm busy with other stuff & don't know the city, so cannot help much. Is this something you could look at? Pashley (talk) 02:22, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi Sandy, Lahore is a wonderful city and I've been there so many times, but as for first Pakistani DotM, my first priority is Karachi. Btw, right now I'm also working on Archaeological Ruins at Moenjodaro to make it a guide status article. --Saqib (talk) 09:38, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
Hey Sandy, Karachi is at guide status now! Lets nominate it for first Pakistani DotM asap! --Saqib (talk) 20:26, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

DotM bannersEdit

Please don't archive DotM banner discussions until the destination is put on the Main Page. The banners that are at Wikivoyage:Destination of the month candidates#Next change can still be changed if consensus shifts toward a different choice.

Hi, I saw you moving Mohenjo-daro to try and lose the WT attribution. I think in this case it can be solved by deleting the article, and restoring everything without that 1 edit at WT (with the check-boxes when you restore). This doesn't really work when there's more text from before the move, because all of the info is then attributed to the first editor after the move, but in this case it doesn't matter as there was nothing before you expanded it. Try it :-) JuliasTravels (talk) 14:10, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

Many thanks. --Saqib (talk) 14:19, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

Jacksonville clean upEdit

I've made a few edits to the Jacksonville page recently, only to find out that my work was reverted. You left no explanation as to why the edits were not acceptable. I just want to improve upon the cities travel page. My good will edits take time and effort, it seems a little unfair someone can come I and block that good will for not apparent reason. Mathew105601 (talk) 03:17, 1 November 2013 (UTC)

If I can interject, Saqib did give an explanation in an edit summary. He reverted edits by you for copyright violation. I haven't checked this out myself, but that was the explanation — "copyvio." As for his latest reversion, I find it incorrect and will revert it. is the website of the Florida Times-Union newspaper's website, whereas visitjacksonville is the website of the Jacksonville CVB, an official organization. Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:12, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
Ikan, I found "" as the official website of the COJ. --Saqib (talk) 14:34, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
In my defense, I think using a template to fill in your own cities information is not a copy violation. Jacksonville roughly had the same perimeters as Atlanta when it came to districts. I reworded every bit of it. As far as goes, is the cities website, but if you look at other cities link Chicago it uses it's tourism boards website as the main like. I don't think local news of city government are the best fit for this link. will have the most useful info. I didn't see a change to anyway. It was reverted back to I figured I was fixing the paid advocacy here. Mathew105601 (talk) 15:22, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
Mathew, I'm so sorry but I realised I had a mistake. I noticed you actually only moved that second paragraph in the Lead section to "Understand" section but I thought you copy pasted it from external website rather than moving and that's why I reverted your edit and mentioned in my edit summary as it was a copyright violation. As for the districts, thanks for districtifying the article but it would be better if you first discuss the distrification on the article's talk page. --Saqib (talk) 15:45, 1 November 2013 (UTC)

Larkana or Larkano?Edit

You did a great job making the Larkana article usable or very close to usable, but I was wondering if 'Larkano' in the 'Understand' section of the article was a typo or intentional.

All the best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:09, 1 November 2013 (UTC)

In Sindhi language, Larkana is actually pronounced as Larkano. --Saqib (talk) 23:19, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
That seems like a good thing to explain in "Understand." Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:51, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
Why not. --Saqib (talk) 23:53, 1 November 2013 (UTC)
I added the explanation. I think that with a map, the Larkana article will be Usable, if it isn't already. Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:01, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
I believe there're still many more to see in Larkana district if not in Larkana city but unfortunately I don't know about it. For now, lets add a dynamic map? --Saqib (talk) 00:12, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
Absolutely. I hope some people who know the city better join and make the article a Guide. You've done really well to make it Usable. Ikan Kekek (talk) 00:19, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
Unfortunately, there's no active editor on this wiki from Pakistan except me but I get annoyed to see there're still many people from Pakistan regularly contributing to articles on WT. --Saqib (talk) 00:23, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
We can't control what others do, only what we do. We'll build the guide, and maybe eventually, some of them or other Pakistanis will come. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:37, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
...and for some reason I keep thinking about a city in Cyprus with almost the same name. Fortunately I haven't written the n and k the wrong way around somewhere when editing the Larkana article :) ϒpsilon (talk) 09:56, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
Interesting. I realised you're quite good at spotting interesting stuff. --Saqib (talk) 10:02, 2 November 2013 (UTC)

User box templatesEdit

Aloha! First, thank you for the welcome on my talk page.

Regarding User boxes, users should have the ability to identify where they are living or where they come from. The User box templates are identical in name to what is in Wikipedia. For an example as to what they are supposed to look like can be found on my Wikipedia user page: w:User:Peaceray.

I think that the experimental warning template should be place in the /doc page for these templates. Right now that warning is totally wrecking the display of the templates, which means functioning templates have been rendered unusable by the warning.

One item that I realized that I need to fix is changes to the names of Categories. I think that any Category on these templates that starts with Wikipedian should be changed to Wikivoyager. What do you think?

Mahalo, Peaceray (talk) 21:31, 2 November 2013 (UTC)

Why do you need any special box or template to identify where you live or come from? Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:51, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
First, Userboxes are an accepted practice on other Wikiprojects. Eventually, there will be a demand for them on Wikivoyage, as well.
Listing where an editor lives or from where s/he originated lets readers know that an editor has the opinion of someone local. For instance, I live in Hawaiʻi, so that might inform a reader's or another editor's perception of my editsabout Kailua, Hawaiʻi, should they decide to look at my user page and see that I reside in the area.
Peaceray (talk) 22:09, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
I'm not sure I have any reason to oppose userboxes, but there is currently no consensus to support them on this site, so these have to be classed as experimental, and please try to attain a consensus for approving them here. Aloha and welcome! Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:23, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for jumping in Ikan Kekek. I personally like templates, but I'll go against the ones created by Peaceray. --Saqib (talk) 22:33, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
Okay, I get the point. I will move these User box Templates to User:Peaceray/sandbox/ & eventually follow up at Travellers' pub.
I am not used to this much scrutiny about introducing new Templates, but Wikivoyage is a relatively new project & this does represent a lot of new Templates. And, although I concentrate on en.wikipedia, I do edit in a lot of different wikiprojects (User contributions when it can connect to centralauth database, or global user contributions beta).
Personally, I think that User in & User from templates are on par with the templates at Wikivoyage:Babel. Understanding an editor's from where an editor originated or where s/he resides is probably at least as important as what language that editor speaks.
Peaceray (talk) 23:21, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
Make the argument, and you may get agreement. Babel templates have been uncontroversial here, to my knowledge. Thanks for respecting our procedures and please stick around to add more content. :-) Ikan Kekek (talk) 23:23, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for your understanding Peaceray. I appreciate. --Saqib (talk) 23:45, 2 November 2013 (UTC)
Babel templates are universal, but userboxes are not necessarily - some Wikimedia projects choose not to use them. --Rschen7754 04:41, 3 November 2013 (UTC)
Rs, userboxes in themselves may not be necessary to many Wikimedia projects, but do you not think that some template for identifying where one lives or from where one originates is as least as viral to Wikivoyage as identifying what language one speaks? Peaceray (talk) 04:46, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
Well, there's certainly other ways to specify that; it's really up to the community. --Rschen7754 05:51, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
Peaceray, you may be interested in Wikivoyage:Wikivoyagers by location. -- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 04:47, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

Main PageEdit

Had another go with the Main Page idea - what do you think? :)

Nick talk 18:43, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi Nick, thanks for pinging me. I already had a look at your proposed main page and I was just about to leave a comment on the main page talk page, the layout looks quite good and work perfectly fine on my 13in screen but I'm wondering why image is not rotating as you said. --Saqib (talk) 19:24, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
How odd! Might I ask which browser you're using? It might be worth copying the CSS across again? The image should pan left and be replaced by another one. --Nick talk 20:18, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
Safari on Mac. --Saqib (talk) 20:34, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
Hi! I've added another bit of CSS - might I ask that you try it again? --Nick talk 21:21, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
It worked Nick, Superb. --Saqib (talk) 05:34, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
Glad to hear it! :) --Nick talk 12:54, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
How about removing Template:WikivoyageSister and Template:Wikivoyagelang from your main page design and instead place it at ? --Saqib (talk) 13:25, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
That's a nice idea, although the other language versions might object if we put EN's featured destinations on the interlingual portal! Also, the portal is created in html, so the page would have to be pretty much rebuilt, unfortunately. --Nick talk 14:07, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
Nick, you mis-understood. I'm talking about Template:WikivoyageSister and Template:Wikivoyagelang, not featured articles. --Saqib (talk) 14:15, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
Oh sorry! Yes - that might well be a good idea! It would still probably be worth keeping them on the EN Main Page however, as we'd lose the sidebar links to the other language versions. :) --Nick talk 16:48, 5 November 2013 (UTC)

Vienna mapEdit

Hello Saqib,

Could you please redraw the Vienna map, we discussed an adjusted split, there would be two changes for 2 districts:

  • Hietzing would be on it's own
  • Meidling moved from Inner South to Outer South.

Thank you very much in advance. --Axisstroke (talk) 13:46, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

Done. --Saqib (talk) 15:10, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
Wow that was quick, great! --Axisstroke (talk) 15:29, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

Hello Saqib,

The Vienna district split continues accoding to our discussions, hence could you redraw the Vienna map with the following changes:

  • Inner districts 3-9 on their own: Landstrasse (3), Wieden (4), Margareten (5), Mariahilf (6), Neubau (7), Josefstadt (8), Alsergrund (9)
  • Sort districts by their increasing district numbers: It would be great to have Inner Stadt listed on top as first, second Inner East, third Landstrasse, fourth Wieden and so on.., Outer South, Hietzing, Outer West, Outer East.

Thank you for the new redraw + sorting. --Axisstroke (talk) 21:51, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

Sure, but can you please first create the articles. --Saqib (talk) 22:10, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
Okay, will do as soon as on better internet. (: --Axisstroke (talk) 22:21, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
Created 3,6-9. 4 and 5 will follow soonish.--Axisstroke (talk) 00:29, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
Done. But made an error creating Vienna/Margaraten, how do I name it as deletion canditate. Thank you for redoing the map! --Axisstroke (talk) 01:44, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
I've deleted Vienna/Margaraten. Btw, why no separate article for Leopoldstadt as well although it is a inner district and located in the heart of the city. --Saqib (talk) 13:34, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
Hi Saqib, thank you for your patience in redrawing the Vienna map! I must say though that at first I found the two-map solution confusing. Do you think for the second map Inner Vienna could remain a single color (yellow to match the first map), with the districts simply numbered, as has been done in Paris and in the German Vienna article?
If we number the inner districts I'm not sure whether it makes sense to continue to label the others Outer West, etc.; however 14/15/16/17/18/19 is equally awkward…
Re: Inner East (Leopoldstadt/Brigittenau), I can't speak for Axisstroke, but currently we have only one listing for Brigittenau and everything else is in Leopoldstadt, so it might be premature to break them up just yet.
Best,–StellarD (talk) 20:45, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
Hey Stellar, I'm sorry that you found the maps rather confusing, but actually they were inspired by the maps of Tokyo. As for Paris map, first of all, the map is not proper WV-styled and second, Paris is divided into arrondissements and those arrondissements are named as numbers and it makes sense to put numbers on the map, whereas, districts of Vienna have their own names and according to my knowledge, the districts of Vienna are more known by their names as compare to numbers so I would strongly suggest to not put numbers on Vienna maps. Anyway, we can recreate the maps based on maps of Bangkok. Let me know what do you think? --Saqib (talk) 21:17, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
Hello Saqib, Thank you for your work! The district split of Vienna is indeed work in progress, with 3-9 on their own pages, there is more than enough work to do to properly fill them. Concerning the numbers they are better known in Vienna as the names of the districts due to several reasons: 1) they reflect the postal code 2) they are written on the street names before the actual street 3) they are shorter. Much more often a Viennese would say let's meet in the 4th district than meet in Wieden. (I'd even assert that some Viennese may not be able to actualy name the corresponding district for each number). I don't have a strong opinon on the map split, what I'd like to have is the listing of the inner district moved up, so that visitors find those first. They are more important for Vienna than for example the 10th, 11th or whatever. --Axisstroke (talk) 21:32, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
All-right, so lets go with numbers then. So you want me to restore only the "Innere Stadt" district in the main map or the others (3-9) as well? --Saqib (talk) 21:48, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

I think it makes sense to call out all the districts that have been individually split out so far, i.e. 1 and 3-9. Re: the larger map, Hietzing (13) should probably be numbered as well, but I think that's not so important now because none of the other outer districts numbered yet. –StellarD (talk) 22:00, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
I do think it would be cool to have the currently so named district name "Inner East" on the second place of the listing. (: Once the other inner districts 3-9 are filled, we can rediscuss, which to break out next. (As the previously chosen district names have no Viennese useage at all). --Axisstroke (talk) 03:47, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
Done. --Saqib (talk) 11:50, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
Thank you! --Axisstroke (talk) 18:33, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
My pleasure! --Saqib (talk) 18:35, 20 November 2013 (UTC)

UNESCO tablesEdit

Saqib, thanks for updating the table. I moved them to Wikivoyage:World_Heritage_Expedition/Progress_tables#Pakistan. In my namespace I am just preparing them for uploading in the final destination ;) Danapit (talk) 16:25, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

Oh okay. Thanks for notifying me. --Saqib (talk) 16:32, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

Moving Helsinki mapsEdit

I saw that you just moved the Greater Helsinki map to the city center. While two maps in the Helsinki article are too much, I would rather leave the map you moved and completely delete the other map. ϒpsilon (talk) 11:37, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Saqib. I see you've previously archived some discussions from your talk page. I would never presume to tell you what to do, but archiving more discussions is always an option open to you.

All the best,

Ikan Kekek (talk) 08:48, 15 November 2013 (UTC)

Sure. --Saqib (talk) 08:56, 15 November 2013 (UTC)

Mosques in BuffaloEdit

Saqib, I saw what you said on Buffalo/North Buffalo regarding there not being any mosques listen in the "Places of worship" subsections of any of the Buffalo district articles I'd written thus far. Though I know you'd since deleted your comments, I hope you know that the only reason for that is there are no mosques in downtown, Allentown, the Delaware District, the Elmwood Village, or North Buffalo.

I'm not religious myself, so I don't feel any vested interest in treating one religion preferentially over another. And, as I mentioned on the Travellers' Pub (see my comment timestamped 00:27, 15 November 2013), I agree that it's very important to address the fact that there are major world religions like Islam that don't have very many adherents or houses of worship in Buffalo.

In the Buffalo parent article, under the "Places of worship" subheading it's mentioned that there are large mosques in the suburbs of Lackawanna and Amherst, as well as several on the East Side. When those articles are filled out, I plan on listing those places. Also, there is a small mosque located in the district article I'm currently working on.

-- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 20:49, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

Oh Andrew, sorry for being misunderstood. Thank you for your detailed review. --Saqib (talk) 21:21, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

Why? There are some advantages to a dynamic map of an itinerary of this size: namely, you can zoom in to see the towns where the missions are located. ECR isn't like the other places you mentioned in that it's not a self-contained neighborhood walking tour. Purplebackpack89 22:39, 17 November 2013 (UTC)

A traveller on the road and carrying a printout of this map will uncertainly be able to zoom in. --Saqib (talk) 22:54, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
Dynamic maps are certainly inferior to carefully hand drawn versions, however a dynamic map takes around 30 seconds to implement and a hand drawn takes at least half an hour. Considering the amount of articles, dynamic may be more realistic. Andrewssi2 (talk) 23:57, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
But I think at-least a proper WV-styled map should be added to star or star status nominated articles. --Saqib (talk) 00:12, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
Agreed! Possibly even for a Guide article as well. Andrewssi2 (talk) 00:53, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
I think the map is clear enough, and the directions are absolutely exact. And the idea that any Guide article needs a static map strikes me as rather crazy. We don't have enough mapmakers on this site to expect them to do the amount of work you described. Ikan Kekek (talk) 03:48, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
To which map are you referring to Ikan? (The one that is clear enough)
Based on the the large amount of work that would be required, I hereby retract the suggestion to make every guide article non-dynamic. I still feel a static map should be an aspirational (rather than definite) target for a Guide article however.
Recently I have been working with Ludwigsburg and the Dynamic map actually looks OK, and probably good enough for a Guide article. The corresponding map for Lamma island that I have been working with looks awful, and I will probably replace with a fixed map in the near future. I guess the problem is to do with the inconsistent OpenMap data quality. Andrewssi2 (talk) 04:40, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
I was referring to the map in El Camino Real, which is currently nominated for a star. Ikan Kekek (talk) 04:46, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

48 statesEdit

I just reverted an edit of yours on Karakoram Highway; you took out "48" in "the 48 contiguous United States" and I restored it. The US has 50 states but two, Alaska and Hawaii, have no border with any of the others. The remaining 48 are colloquially the "lower 48" (usually without the word "states"), but I thought the 48 contiguous United States" was clearer. I guess it wasn't; I think I will make it "the 48 contiguous US states". Or can you suggest something better?

As an aside, part of Canada is between Alaska and the lower 48. East & West Pakistan with India between used to be a similar case. Are there, or have there been, other similar cases? Pashley (talk) 23:02, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

Kaliningrad (Russia) comes to mind. Andrewssi2 (talk) 23:56, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
The Palestinian territories (Gaza Strip and the West Bank), which both border on Israel; Cabindi and the rest of Angola, which both border on the Congo; and the Musandam Peninsula and the rest of Oman, which both border on the United Arab Emirates come to mind. Ikan Kekek (talk) 01:44, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
Llívia is an interesting small Spanish village and territory that is located completely within France. No apparent WV entry for that. Andrewssi2 (talk) 04:32, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
And Nakhchivan which is part of Azerbaijan and French Guiana. And 20+ (depending on how you count) islands that are French, Dutch, British, Danish, American (Puerto Rico)... overseas regions. ϒpsilon (talk) 05:23, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
w:Exclave should have some info on the topic. K7L (talk) 18:48, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

What would you like to discuss? It has been awaiting further comment in the pub for almost 3 weeks already. Texugo (talk) 14:43, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

Hey, haven't noticed that discussion. --Saqib (talk) 14:49, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
No problem. Do you object to adding it back? Texugo (talk) 14:55, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
It's already done! --Saqib (talk) 14:57, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. Please let me know if there is any way to improve it. I hope it will be useful. Texugo (talk) 14:58, 19 November 2013 (UTC)
Thank you again for all the effort and time you've put into it, but its simply brilliant. I don't know why but frankly speaking, it reminds me of a cockpit. --Saqib (talk) 15:05, 19 November 2013 (UTC)

Please do not deliberately post material making public an editor's private information which they have not revealed on-wiki again. I have since made a request to stewards to have the material suppressed, which was granted.

If this happens again, I will be posting both a proposal to desysop and to ban. This is not acceptable behavior from any Wikimedia editor, let alone administrator. --Rschen7754 22:06, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

I had no idea posting another editor's (Tony) information is not allowed and unacceptable. I apologies for it. --Saqib (talk) 22:14, 23 November 2013 (UTC)
I haven't read any of this and now presumably can't, because it's been oversighted. But I've seen at least one other sign that you are having trouble dealing with the pressure of this volunteer job, such as this edit. Do you have an explanation for that edit? None of us are perfect, but I wouldn't like to think that you might have decided to declare war on a user, regardless of the content of specific edits, and that thought did cross my mind. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:31, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
Xe could simply state Marlborough (New Zealand) Nelson Bays but "Te Tau Ihu (o Te Waka-a-Māui) or the "Top of the South" (not a translation)" seemed strange to me so I removed it. --Saqib (talk) 19:53, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
I don't see why it's important to micromanage what people say about the place they live in on that page. Ikan Kekek (talk) 19:56, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

Dox and ducksEdit

Looks like w:WP:DOX indeed prohibits publishing of personal information and indirectly also commenting on them. I'm sorry to see what you have had to go through. The question now is whether to say anything more about this affair or just sit and giggle the next time something happens. Probably the latter is a better choice. Ps. Do you think they get to meet each other some day, preferably under the barncompass? ϒpsilon (talk) 12:44, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

I guessed I'm not capable of dealing with controversial stuff going on here lately. --Saqib (talk) 12:55, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
That's precisely how I felt a week ago. ϒpsilon (talk) 13:11, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
By the way, I am wondering which of the Wikivoyage policies "prohibits publishing of personal information and indirectly also commenting on them". It is embarrassing that a user who intentionally used personal information in a really bad context is protected by such policy.
I have not seen the contentious edit, though. I don't know what exactly Saqib published, but I have to say that the threat looked really bad. Let's sit and giggle! --Alexander (talk) 13:57, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
I realised it was a mistake on my part so I've nothing to say in my defence and I'm ready to voluntarily give up my admin tools incase a proposal emerge. --Saqib (talk) 14:55, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
It's a form of harassment to comment on someone's real-life identity, besides being a form of outing. If the material was covered by the global oversight policy, and a steward granted oversight, you can be assured that it violated policy. --Rschen7754 18:09, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
And the use of revision deletion on this page was not appropriate, either; that is only used for copyright violations, or grossly offensive material, neither of which the questionable materials were. --Rschen7754 18:17, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
I don't want to challenge the oversight thing, but I still do not understand the connection between the oversight policy saying "Edits containing private information can be oversighted" and your warning that puts Saqib's action as a serious guilt. Moreover, only the individual whose private information was disclosed can say whether it was a harassment. Otherwise, it looks like secret police hunting for people and charging them for a very minor offense. We often use names here, and I can easily imagine myself being accused in the same way, because I am sometimes using real names that were not officially made public on this wiki. But should we care about that as long as everyone is happy?
By the way, if we consider it very strictly, Wikivoyage does not have a policy saying that disclosing private information is a harassment. Even if this policy exists on other sites, it does not apply here (although I believe everyone understands that private information is private). --Alexander (talk) 18:44, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
All Wikimedia sites are subject to meta:Meta:Policies and guidelines. I've updated Wikivoyage:Policies to note that fact. -- Ryan • (talk) • 19:25, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
I would like to point out, that the real identity of Tony1 was previously published at australian wikimedia, so we are dealing here with the same kind of offense that Tony did to Ryan few weeks ago, in the worst case. Danapit (talk) 19:32, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
Ryan, which of the global policies applies here? The privacy policy is about "the information we collect from you", so it probably applies to stewards and other people with special access, but not to me or you or any other editor doing a web search and sharing its results on-wiki. --Alexander (talk) 19:53, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
I was originally looking at the list on [5], which includes [6], although I guess a strict reading of that policy would apply only to checkusers and stewards. -- Ryan • (talk) • 20:04, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
So it is Saqib who was actually harassed here. Sad to hear, but it fits to the whole chain of events happening recently... --Alexander (talk) 20:20, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
@Danapit: More was published about Tony1 than just his name. --Rschen7754 21:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
More what User:Rschen7754? --Saqib (talk) 21:02, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
More information. --Rschen7754 21:03, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
Yes but more information like what? --Saqib (talk) 21:07, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
As you made the posts, you should know very well what you posted. Out of respect for Tony1's privacy, I won't post it here. And considering that you reverted yourself here, I think you're aware that it was at least ill-advised to post what you did. --Rschen7754 21:13, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
@Atsirlin: Saqib deliberately posted information about Tony1's life outside of Wikimedia in a discussion, in order to link the two identities together. That is harassment, plain and simple; I don't give a crap about what the policies say. Most wikis do not have an explicitly written down policy on harassment (ie:wikt anyone?) or even vandalism, and yet that doesn't mean that we have to plug our ears whenever it happens.
I am not willing to be an administrator on any Wikimedia site that takes such a negative attitude towards protecting the right of its individuals to voluntarily choose what they decide to make public, especially considering that I cannot risk being associated with anything violating such a user's right to privacy as a Wikidata oversighter. Furthermore, I know of plenty of people who have been harassed in real life for their actions on Wikimedia sites, and I want to know that this site will do whatever it can to protect me if someone decides to reveal my personal information here. If it is not, then that is not a risk that I am willing to take to my right to privacy, or that could get my rights removed on other Wikimedia sites, and I will be tendering my resignation as an administrator here. --Rschen7754 21:13, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
I don't want you to tender your resignation. I suggest that Saqib resigns, instead. And perhaps we should discuss whether to ban Saqib as a user over this serious incident. This strikes me as much more serious than the feelings a number of people have that certain users have engaged in online harassment. Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:28, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
I would like to submit my admin rights following Ikan Kekek comment. I'm very disappointed, but there was nothing that serious in that link which I posted and even though User:Rschen7754 said "more information" but I don't know what "more information" he's referring to. --Saqib (talk) 21:39, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
You posted about an affiliation that he has in real life. I can't go into more detail, because the point of suppressing information is that we do not continue discussing it after it was suppressed, because that defeats the purpose of the suppression. --Rschen7754 21:44, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
I find it strange that very serious actions are proposed on the basis on a non-written policy that I do not even understand. Apparently, Saqib did not hack Wikimedia servers and did not get any private information from there. I assume that he made a web search and found some open, public information: "Because You Made It Public", as the new global policy says. If you worry about your identity, make sure that the information about your life outside Wikimedia can not be connected to your life within Wikimedia. It is your task, I suppose.
Just to give you a counter-example: my full name is very easy to figure out. Then, after filtering some namesakes, you can easily find who I am and what I am doing. My location is probably more difficult to figure out, because I am traveling nearly half of my time, but anyway... I don't mind anyone posting all this information on wiki. I really don't care, because I have nothing to hide.
Altogether, I don't think that Saqib did a smart thing here, but I would like to see a very clear explanation of what can be posted on wiki and what not. So far it is not obvious at all. For example, I did address Ikan with his real name, but I did not expect to be blocked for this reason, at least not until Ikan objects strongly and explicitly. --Alexander (talk) 21:57, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
"If you worry about your identity, make sure that the information about your life outside Wikimedia can not be connected to your life within Wikimedia." Well, that's easier said than done, what with the GNAA, Wikipediocracy, public records in the United States, and sites like [7]. --Rschen7754 22:06, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

Addressing other comments about Tony1's comments on the English Wikipedia, Tony1 is not an administrator here, and secondly, we should treat all users with dignity and the right to privacy, even if they do not treat us the same. --Rschen7754 21:30, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

Absolutely. Moreover, if anything, administrators should be held to a higher, and not a lower standard. The more I think about it, the more it strikes me as really incumbent on us to make an example of Saqib by suspending him for a week for a first offense this serious. And really, Saqib, please understand that this is nothing personal at all on my part. But we have to avoid hypocritical behavior. Rschen, would you like to propose the user ban, since you witnessed the behavior and can also speak more authoritatively on policy? Ikan Kekek (talk) 21:37, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
What to say. I agree with User:Rschen7754 that users here have a right to privacy should they wish to maintain it, and I guess it flows from that what Saqib did was clearly wrong. However the possible resignation as an admin should not determine our next course of action, which should be done with the best interests of our site and all our users in mind. I guess that also means we also shouldn't take into account that Saqib has been one of our best contributors. However, perhaps we can take into account that Saqib has apologised, and realised what he did was wrong, and taken some steps to clean up the mess?
I think we can also take into account that the admin position here at WV (in contrast to WP) is still one where tools are given to those who will use them to simplify operations. It has a different role to WP.
User:Rschen7754 - do you know of how this has been handled on other WM sites. Is an apology and acknowledgement of wrongdoing ever sufficient on a first offence? --Inas (talk) 21:53, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
That would be hilarious. Sorry, Ikan. Did you forget that this site is about travel writing? --Alexander (talk) 21:57, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
Administrators do have access to (rev)deleted content, which can sometimes have sensitive material, though oversight is typically used to get the sensitive material. en.wikipedia would have blocked and desysopped right away. But in my mind, while I think Saqib knew what he was doing was suboptimal, I don't think he understood the gravity of the situation.
That being said, he certainly does now, so any further issues along these lines should not be given any reprieve. --Rschen7754 21:58, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
I think that since there is still some confusion about what the policy on privacy is on this site, it should be added as a clear policy statement. To Alexander, I find nothing hilarious about this situation. Ikan Kekek (talk) 22:09, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
I only have time for a quick comment right now. The sequence of events was: Saqib posted the links; I emailed Saqib; Saqib reverted his edit; then Rschen7754 commented on Saqib's page and the edit was oversighted. I think that Saqib did not know what he was doing was inappropriate, but as soon as I emailed him, he realised and reverted. Using blocks as punishment (rather than prevention) would get a short shift on WP and don't support punishing Saqib in that way. Would like to say more, but that's all I have time for right now. Nurg (talk) 22:25, 24 November 2013 (UTC)
Agree with Ikan Kekek that it isn't really funny. It is exactly because this is just a travel guide, that people should be able to edit here free from any harassment. I also agree with need to clarify the policy. That should be straightforward. I'm happy and agree with what User:Rschen7754 said, and thank him for taking care of the reversion/oversight to minimise the damage here. --Inas (talk) 23:08, 24 November 2013 (UTC)

Admin rightsEdit

Saqib - I very much hope that we don't lose you as a contributor here over this latest incident, but I also believe that, given the seriousness of this particular incident, removal of admin rights needs to be discussed. Officially Wikivoyage:Administrators#Ending administrator privileges states that a nomination should be held to consider whether admin rights should be revoked, but I also recognize that you meant no harm and I don't want to escalate this situation unnecessarily. Therefore, given that you have already said you would like to "submit your admin rights" [8], would you prefer this go through the nomination process with the potential that the result of such a nomination might be that you should keep your admin rights, or would you prefer admin rights to be removed without a nomination as per your own request? -- Ryan • (talk) • 01:26, 25 November 2013 (UTC)

Ryan, As I said before, so say I now again that I would like to voluntarily submit my admin rights following this incident so please feel free to remove the admin rights asap. --Saqib (talk) 01:39, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for being magnanimous about this - I'm sorry it happened but very much hope that you'll continue to contribute regularly, albeit without the benefit of the shiny buttons. -- Ryan • (talk) • 02:00, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
+1. I hope that you didn't take this personally. --Rschen7754 02:05, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
Hi Saqib, many thanks for the grace that you have demonstrated in this and with it helping the WV community. I'm not completely clear about what happened, however it does seem to be unintentional from your side and therefore I hope you could regain your admin rights sometime. Andrewssi2 (talk) 02:06, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
I hope you continue contributing, too. I had very much wanted you to become an admin in the first place, and that was because your contributions were so great. Again, nothing personal.
All the best,
Ikan Kekek (talk) 09:03, 25 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi Saqib. Sorry to hear about your unintentional mistake. I am happier to see that you are dealing with it honorably. Regards • • • Peter (Southwood) (talk): 05:36, 25 November 2013 (UTC)

Saqib, although I'm still very upset about this incident, I want to say here: please keep up your valuable editing contributions. People appreciate them. You can always apply to the community in the future if you wish to regain adminship. Thank you. Tony (talk) 13:27, 25 November 2013 (UTC)
Tony, first of all, please accept my apologies. Second, I'm not getting you, If you really want me to stay here and keep contributing then why you demanded a site-wide ban on me? --Saqib (talk) 19:05, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
In the calm of things, I've changed my mind. The best to you, and although I won't be around this site much, I look forward to your continued contributions. Tony (talk) 01:46, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi! Is this perhaps some experiment of yours or vandalism by someone else? ϒpsilon (talk) 20:27, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

Strange, you linked it to me because it was done from a Pakistani IP. --Saqib (talk) 20:36, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
OK, I thought it was some sort of experiment - that you were trying out some new listing editor which had inadvertently put the stuff in the mainspace and that the same thing had logged you out. But if it wasn't by you, then it's just vandalism. I'll mark the page for speedy deletion, then. ϒpsilon (talk) 20:45, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
You were faster :) ϒpsilon (talk) 20:46, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

As you know, both you & I are working on that article. I find the earlier work you did getting it up to guide exemplary and most of your recent edits good as well. Bravo!

However, there is a problem. I am trying to write straightforward and coherent narrative for the Understand section, of course using various WP pages as a reference but rewriting much of it, adding links to other WV articles like Harappa and quite deliberately omitting WP stuff I don't think we need here, especially since we link to the WP article anyway. Having you drop a large chunk of unedited WP text into the middle of that makes me want to scream and to immediately remove that addition.

Can you hold off a few days until I'm done with my version? Once it is coherent & complete by my lights, by all means take a look and make additions if you then think it needs some. Or should I back off a while and let you take it where you think it needs to go before I get involved again? Pashley (talk) 17:05, 3 December 2013 (UTC)

You're absolutely right Sandy, actually I was just about to make changes in the paragraph I took from WP article to make it in a straightforward manner, but anyway I'll wait until you write it from your perspective and do let me know when you're done with it. --Saqib (talk) 17:45, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
OK, I'm done. By the way, please don't call me "Sandy" here; my name is by no means secret, but I prefer to just use the "Pashley: user ID. Pashley (talk) 21:06, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
Ah sorry, actually I noticed on various occasions where other editors called you by "Sandy" but anyway, I must say you done a good job but don't you think the "understand" section is too long to read? --Saqib (talk) 21:36, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
Now that you mention it, yes. Let me see if I can shorten it some. Pashley (talk) 21:49, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
I found you expert of writing travel literature when I read On the trail of Kipling's Kim and On the trail of Marco Polo some time back and your recent work on Mohenjo-daro's understand section is another piece of your masterly work and now I can't even dare to touch that section because it gives so deep background in such a skilful manner. Well done! --Saqib (talk) 22:22, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, but it is a collaborative project so you can edit if you feel the need, or suggest changes on the talk page.
What do you think about the last three paragraphs, from "The extent and nature..." on? I put them in because I thought they might be interesting to travellers, but they are not really necessary and they carry some risk of inviting politically-motivated changes; we have already had some around these questions, see Talk:India#History_section. Should they be removed? Pashley (talk) 22:39, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
Thats an interesting part but I'm not entirely sure whether it should be delete or not. --Saqib (talk) 22:48, 3 December 2013 (UTC)
Pashley, what do you think if I divide the "see" listings based on Pompeii#See? --Saqib (talk) 23:03, 3 December 2013 (UTC)

Hey Saqib! I noticed you tagged a bunch of stuff for speedy deletion, but... can't most or all of those be redirected to their parent region? If they can, they probably should be redirected instead of deleted... Texugo (talk) 21:19, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi, I guess you didn't noticed the reason I put in each article that I nominated for speedy deletion. I mentioned "delete in order to loose the WT attribution at the footer, then re-create and redirect to the default article." --Saqib (talk) 21:45, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
I deleted about half of the 20-odd you tagged. Your tags suggested delete & re-create, but I only recreated a few. I left some where I was not sure what should be done. Pashley (talk) 21:49, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. I redirected them back to their default articles, but why not you deleting the rest? --Saqib (talk) 21:52, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
Not recreating those was deliberate; I think they are completely useless. Pashley (talk) 21:57, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
You mean we shouldn't recreate the current speedy deletion candidates because they're useless redirects? Then what we gonna do with them? Delete or undo the speedy tag? OR did you meant you not recreated those you deleted because they're useless? --Saqib (talk) 22:06, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
I think some are useless, like Northern Areas when we also have Northern Areas (Pakistan) and Federally Administered Northern Areas or Azad Jammu and Kashmir since there are no links to it and I have only ever heard "Azad Kashmir" used. I deleted those & did not recreate.
Ones like Afghania (Pakistan) I did not delete because I'm not sure what they are, whether they are useful, or where they ought to redirect. Pashley (talk) 22:11, 6 December 2013 (UTC)
Well, I'm quite surprised. How "Northern Areas" and "North West Frontier Province" ‎can be useless when they both are former official names and "Northern Areas" is still comonly used term for "Gilgit–Baltistan". As compare to Northern Areas (Pakistan)" and Federally Administered Northern Areas, I'm sure "Northern Areas" is a most used search term. "Azad Jammu and Kashmir" is the official name of "Azad Kashmir", while "Pakistan-administered Kashmir" is also a somewhat commonly used term. "Gilgit Baltistan" is popular search term as compare to "Gilgit-Baltistan". But yes "Etiquette in Pakistan" is useless. As for the remaining speedy deletion candidates, I agree most are useless including "Afghania (Pakistan)" except "Islamabad Capital Territory" because its official name of "Islamabad", Skardu District and K2. --Saqib (talk) 22:21, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

Tyops on talk pagesEdit

Yes I almost quit here a month or so ago and after having heard such a negative response to this project from a couple of australian eds who have abandoned their editing here, I decided today to get back into it sats (talk) 15:40, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

Welcome back! --Saqib (talk) 15:51, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
thanks, there is a lot to do... sats (talk) 15:56, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

Reverted editsEdit

You reverted some in Abbottabad and asked "what's this?". The symbol "nbsp" is a non-breaking space; it prevents ending up with the number & unit on different lines. There's discussion somewhere and we certainly have some users who think "10 km" with that is preferable to "10 km" with an ordinary space or "10km" with none. It may even be policy. Personally, I think such edits are an utter waste of time but then I'd say reverting them is too. Pashley (talk) 19:48, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

Got it. Thanks. --Saqib (talk) 20:08, 13 December 2013 (UTC)
Some editors write lyrical prose, some editors are coding mavens, some editors have personal knowledge about restaurants or swimming breaks to contribute. Some woodlice like me just like our guides to be as authoritative and easy to understand as possible. One of the beauties of a wiki is that you don't have to do it all yourself - and certainly not denigrate or sabotage the well meaning efforts of others, however lowly and insignificant.
If you think that time should not be wasted on non-breaking spaces perhaps you'll support the removal of our mild (but highly selective and inconsistent) preference for separating the amount from its unit with a space? --118.93nzp (talk) 00:27, 18 December 2013 (UTC)
At first, I was don't know what is "nbsp" so I reverted that edit but after Pashley's explanation, I got to know about its purpose and so, I'm not against its usage. --Saqib (talk) 01:04, 18 December 2013 (UTC)

I've deleted the article now, but it's probably best if you do the move yourself, so the attribution will go to you. Texugo (talk) 13:52, 16 December 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. --Saqib (talk) 14:11, 16 December 2013 (UTC)

I deleted this article so you can recreate it now. Texugo (talk) 16:36, 18 December 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. --Saqib (talk) 16:42, 18 December 2013 (UTC)

Season's greetings in a prominent placeEdit

As you just experimented on the main page, I got an idea (don't need to take it seriously)... Our logo has a red arrow pointing pretty much upwards. Bend it a bit, add a little white tuft at the top and we've got Santa Claus' cap! (if you use VLC player you will notice that it also has a Santa cap on the cone symbol when you open the application). ϒpsilon (talk) 22:06, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

Creative idea but unfortunately, this practice is discouraged. --Saqib (talk) 22:34, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
:) ϒpsilon (talk) 22:38, 23 December 2013 (UTC)
Perhaps we can have falling snowflakes on the main page. --Saqib (talk) 22:48, 23 December 2013 (UTC)

Two thingsEdit

Thanks for helping take care of the recent spate of anonymous IP vandalism. However, w:Wikipedia:Do not insult the vandals is something you might want to familiarize yourself with going forward. Specifically, you expressed frustration and anger with the vandal in some of your edit summaries (e.g. this one and this one). While totally understandable, this feeds into the vandal's desire for attention and recognition and tends to inspire further vandalism.

On a completely different subject, thanks for adding a pagebanner to Buffalo/Elmwood Village a while back. I had a great idea for a pagebanner (this place), but as you can see it's currently under major construction. I think the banner you've chosen is perfect for the interim, and I agree that the page looked incomplete without one.

-- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 06:20, 26 December 2013 (UTC)

Well noted. How was your Christmas by the way? --Saqib (talk) 09:37, 26 December 2013 (UTC)

Copying leads from WikipediaEdit

Hi, Saqib. Why did you copy the Dubai lead from Wikipedia? Doesn't similarity to other websites lower the search results for Wikivoyage articles? Ikan Kekek (talk) 13:45, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

It didn't cross my mind but yes, you might be right. Actually, the lead of Dubai article was almost empty so I thought of filling it somehow but anyway, I'll undo it. --Saqib (talk) 13:49, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
It's probably fine to paraphrase useful content from Wikipedia, as long as it's not too similar. Ikan Kekek (talk) 14:17, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
Hmm, okay I'll give it a go later. --Saqib (talk) 14:22, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Destination of the MonthEdit

Happy New Year, Saqib!

Please see Wikivoyage:Destination of the month candidates#Updating for the proper procedure for updating DotM. It's not just a matter of "switching the banner on the Main Page and then you're finished".

-- AndreCarrotflower (talk) 00:43, 1 January 2014 (UTC)

I got it Andrew, and happy new year to you, too. --Saqib (talk) 08:31, 1 January 2014 (UTC)

Wikivoyage:Tourist Office#Passport validity requirement and alternate forms of ID in European Union (Schengen) countriesEdit

Hi Saqib. I do know your intentions are good, but I would kindly urge you to be cautious when giving advise on such important matters as passports and travel in areas you don't know too well. Especially on an IRC chat when others cannot correct you when you're wrong. Your statement that travelling inside the EU with and expired EU passport would be fine, is really not true. Sure, one may get lucky (especially when travelling over land and not being checked), but while most regulations are European ones, EU countries handle them in different ways and various degrees of strictness. Air travel is particularly tight in most Northern European countries. You might get someone into trouble by just saying something like that. Just wanted to make you aware ;) Feel free to remove this message when you've read it. Cheers! JuliasTravels (talk)

Well noted Julia. Actually, I've been told by a Finnish friend few years back that a EU citizen can travel within the Schengen area even with an ID card. In which case, it doesn't matter whether the passport is expired or not because its not being used. But anyway thanks for your message. --Saqib (talk) 14:44, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
Of course, a European ID card (that's a particular document) is just as valid as a passport, and for EU citizens to travel within the EEA and Switzerland, either one is fine. It's smaller (so fits in your wallet) and cheaper than a passport, and therefor preferred by many people who don't have to travel outside the EU. I own both, for example, using the ID card for European travels and my passport only when I go further. However, that has nothing to do with the question in the tourist office, as the user explicitly states he does not own a Polish ID card. A driver's licence of US Green card is not an ID card. Also, in Schengen there are no daily border controls anymore (so indeed you are usually not checked at the border), but you are still obliged to carry a valid ID at all times and will need it in several cases and if anything happens. Although one might surely be lucky and not need it anywhere, we should (imho) never advise to travel through Europe without a valid ID. Also, (in the case of the tourist office question) international air travel in Europe in principle always requires a valid ID card or passport. Hope that clears things up :-) JuliasTravels (talk) 15:21, 13 January 2014 (UTC)
I didn't bother to properly read the question Murd posted at Tourist Office so I thought he've national ID card because over IRC, he didn't said he don't have one. --Saqib (talk) 15:42, 13 January 2014 (UTC)

Lombardy mapsEdit

Hello, could you give me a fast explanation on inkscape or, more generaly, on svg images? I'm non able to cut images. I have to prepare wikivoyage maps for the four regions of Lombardy, but I'm not able to hide the area of the map I don't need. The only way I found is to save the file in png and to cut it (see File:Arco_alpino_lombardo.png). Thanks--Lkcl it (talk) 15:12, 20 January 2014 (UTC)

Ciao. Actually I think we need to do the Lombardy map again because the current one was not properly created. I'll do the new map for you and then will be able to create sub-region maps from it more easily so please bear with me and I'll be back with the new map shortly. --Saqib (talk) 15:23, 20 January 2014 (UTC)
I have done a stub: File:Lombardia_Wikivoyage_subregion.svg.
1. Chiavennasco 2. Valtellina sondriese 3. Alta Valtellina 4. Alto bergamasco 5. Val Camonica
6. Varesotto 7. Comasco 8. Lecchese 9. Bergamasco 10. Bresciano 11. Franciacorta ...+lakes
12. Altomilanese 13. Brianza 14. Bassa Bergamasca 15. Bassa Bresciana 16. Milanese 17. Cremasco 26. Alto Mantovano
18. Lomellina 19. Pavese 20. Lodigiano 21. Cremonese 22. Mantovano 23. Oltrepò pavese 24. Oglio Po 25. Oltrepò mantovano
Thanks --Lkcl it (talk) 14:26, 22 January 2014 (UTC)
Great. I'll do the map by tonight. --Saqib (talk) 14:31, 22 January 2014 (UTC)
Hi Andy and Lkcl it, I've created the map of Lombardy and its four sub-regions but I didn't labelled them yet because I don't know about the major cities and town of Lombardy so it would be better if Lkcl label the maps of sub-regions. SVG's can be found here. --Saqib (talk) 14:15, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
Thanks Saqib. If possible, could you add the following amendements on the map?
  1. Keep the original color (the first three have a sort of meaning)
  2. Keep the border of the region itself (Lombardia) and of the surrounding regions/countries
  3. Keep the border of the provinces
  4. Keep the existing cities position/label
Basically, the only thing that should be removed is the border of the towns (small and tiny ones). Ok for the rest: arrow, title & legend (that should be just translated in Italian). --Andyrom75 (talk) 14:40, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
Changing the sub-region colours back to original and restoring the provincial boundaries will take a lot of time because I'll have to re-draw the map again. But I'll try to draw the border of Lombardy and restoring the existing cities labels. BTW, titles are already in Italian and where're legends? --Saqib (talk) 14:51, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
Colors are important. Couldn't you fill the complete area with a new color? The legend is the one with Km/Miles --Andyrom75 (talk) 15:03, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
Okay. I'll do it for you but I won't be able to draw boundaries of provinces. In-fact, provincial boundaries are not important in our travel map because we've 4 sub-regions, provincial boundaries will only confuse a traveller. --Saqib (talk) 15:12, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
Excellent, now it's much more better. I'll owe you something ;-) --Andyrom75 (talk) 15:43, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
No problem at all. Please feel free to let me know if I can be of any further help. --Saqib (talk) 15:47, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
I've just notice that the border over the lake should be reviewed, but now I'm busy outside voy. Maybe I'll talk later with you or Lkcl. --Andyrom75 (talk) 15:49, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
I thought the lake borders are filled but anyway I've done it. Anything else ? --Saqib (talk) 15:55, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
Come back. There's a misunderstanding. The lake that are totally innternally the region, shouldn't have the border. While on the others the border it's not around the lake, but it should be where the border of the region is. (tipically inside the lake). To visualize what I mean, take a look to these pictures (one per lake): first (just the lake on the left), second (just the lake on the left) and third (just the lake on the right). Don't worry if the border are not perfect, the important is that they pass inside and not around the lake. Just one minor thing, plese put the label "Como" below the point (not above). Thanks, --Andyrom75 (talk) 16:59, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
Done. --Saqib (talk) 17:24, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

Thank for the Arco alpino lombardo map. Few notes:

  1. In the top-right there's an external border that when it reach the region it twist with another line. The same thing happen in the Lombardia map, but here is more visible because the map is zoomed. Could you correct it?
  2. Try to position all the label (when possible) over a continuous background (e.g. Breno to the left, Edolo to the right, etc... for Chiaverna that is too long put it over the purple & blue background without touching the border: this will increase the readibility).
  3. Add the legend in the left bottom corner
  4. Adjust the color code in the template

The rest is fine, thanks, --Andyrom75 (talk) 17:40, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

Milan mapEdit

Hi! Mille grazie (=thousand thanks) for the Milan map. The districts are correct. I think it would be useful to have the highways around the city center, railways, and Linate airport added to the map. Maybe some of the most visible streets in the dynamic map (you're using the dynamic map as material, right?) as well. ϒpsilon (talk) 21:04, 21 January 2014 (UTC)

Page North-WestEdit

Fixed some double-redirects to Sarhad that link to page North-West... Would it be better to rename page North-West to Northwest Pakistan and fix links accordingly? North-West could possibly be a reference for a geographical region anywhere in the world... ie. Pacific Northwest etc. Just a thought - otherwise its ok as is... Matroc (talk) 23:24, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

Right. I've moved it to "Northwest Pakistan". But I was wondering which term will be more correct (either Northwest or Northwestern) since this is unofficial region. --Saqib (talk) 10:52, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
Northwest Pakistan is fine. In my Canadian dialect, "Northwest" is strongly preferred over the hyphenated form; I suspect other dialects may prefer the hyphen, but I am not sure which.
"Northwest" is a fairly important term in Canadian history. We have a region called the Northwest Territories and our W:RCMP mounted police were originally the Northwest Mounted Rifles, patterned on regiments in the Raj; they changed it to Northwest Mounted Police to avoid upsetting the Americans too much. The search for the Northwest Passage was also important; here's a great 20th century song about that [9]. Pashley (talk) 15:50, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
I think it would be better to use "Northwest Pakistan" as article name, but change the title of article in banner to "North-West". --Saqib (talk) 16:09, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
That seems unconventional and a bit confusing, actually. Now the article name is Northwest Pakistan, the name you see (in the banner) is "North-West" and the articles starts with "Northwest Frontier is the region in the north-west of Pakistan". We have many regions and neighbourhoods called Northwest or Northwestern something[10], the name is normally the same in the banner. JuliasTravels (talk) 17:23, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
Fixed. Thanks! But I'm wondering what's the purpose of "pgname" option in the page banner template when we actually can't use alternative different name than the formal name of the page. --Saqib (talk) 17:34, 23 January 2014 (UTC)

That was really odd... did you by any chance just edit the Sindh article? I was copy-editing the Get Around section but when I saved it, it changed a bunch of other things that I know I didn't change. I would almost say two edits got mixed up, although I can't really imagine how... JuliasTravels (talk) 19:15, 25 January 2014 (UTC)

That's very strange Julia. I didn't edited the article. First you copy-edited the article and then you reverted it. I'm figuring the same why this happened. --Saqib (talk) 19:21, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
Okay, no worries, I reverted myself because the edit accidentally removed info. I guess I must somehow have been working in an old version. Just wanted to make sure that I wasn't in your way :-) I'll just re-save the relevant parts. Thanks for the fast reply! JuliasTravels (talk) 19:23, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
Oh okay. I was actually shocked to see you removed chunk of useful text but later reverted and I was about to leave you a message on your talk page but then I got your message. Anyway, thanks for copyediting. --Saqib (talk) 19:27, 25 January 2014 (UTC)

Map of MunichEdit

Dear Saqib,

I noticed you have created some rather brilliant regional and city-level maps of recent, and I can only say you are a real pro at that. I was wondering if you could help us with the Munich article which we have redistrictified (namely, merged four former districts into one) by lending out your mapmaking skills. There have been a few users who have offered to make the map and none of them apparently had the time to follow up on that, so we are now left with a map that does not match the structure of the articles.

Let me outline some hints as to what needs to be done in hope you will consider taking up the challenge. If not, there will at least be a to-do list that I can of course remove from your talk page at your wish and use elsewhere:

  • The SVG for the current map is here
  • Basically, the districts of Schwabing, Neuhausen-Nymphenburg and Olympic area need to be merged into North
  • The little yellow part of City Center protruding to the north over the white line of Prinzregentenstrasse, to the east of the green park (Englischer Garten) should be added to the North as well
  • The other districts should stay as they are
  • I believe colours could now be rearranged as the ones used for the three districts that we merged into North will be freed. I guess light green is not a bad choice for North
  • The railway station descriptions should stay, but I guess could be placed better not to clash with the background
  • If possible, it would be good to mark the location of 1 Neue Messe in Riem, either as a point or as the general area - the whole gray complex of interconnected buildings on the OSM Map is the Messe area. "Neue Messe" is the current fairgrounds area in Munich, one of the most important for Germany and reason for many visitors to come to Munich.
  • Another area of similar importance is the 2 Theresienwiese, where the Oktoberfest takes places. It is the vaguely jellybean-shaped green area on the OSM Map.
  • Last but not least, following our discussion concerning Milan, I guess it would be good to mark the location of the airport (some 40 kms northeast of the city) with an arrow, icon and description to help people understand the geographic placement of it vs. the city.
  • You will also probably notice some minor graphic glitches on the map (title not fitting the frame etc.) which you may find appropriate to rectify

Thank you in advance for taking a look at that and letting me know if you would consider devoting your precious time for that. I know I am being borderline pushy here, so please do mark that down to proactiveness rather than lack of manners, as I consider this task important and overdue, and guess I still need much more time to even get started at making SVG maps.

Looking forward to hearing from you, PrinceGloria (talk) 09:01, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for the message and I would be happy to assist you. I'll very soon start working on the map. --Saqib (talk) 14:35, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
Changes made Prince but unfortunately I couldn't able to insert the icon of airport into the map since the airport is located very far from the range of this map so couldn't be inserted here. Let me know if anything else to be fixed. --Saqib (talk) 16:36, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
This is why PrinceGloria said that the airport should be handled in the same way as suggested in Talk:Milan#No_need_to_rush_with_the_map - because both Milan's and Munich's airports in the countryside, quite far away. So in this Munich map it will mean putting the airport icon, an arrow and "Munich Airport 40km" next to Autobahn 9 (going north). ϒpsilon (talk) 17:01, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
Done. --Saqib (talk) 17:07, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
Now I need to nitpick a little... you forgot the arrow :). ϒpsilon (talk) 17:21, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
Done. --Saqib (talk) 17:26, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
Now it's good I think (and I hope Prince and Andrewssi2 who are the Munich experts agree). ϒpsilon (talk) 17:31, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
Wow, that's brilliant! Thank you very much for taking this up and completing so promptly, I can't thank you enough. PrinceGloria (talk) 21:10, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
Thanks! Andrewssi2 (talk) 23:59, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for editing the map - I was supposed to do it myself, but then totally forgot about it. Two things, though: wouldn't it be better to keep the original German name "München" in the map as well, as e.g. there are no road signs indicating "Munich". And did you measure the scale in the lower left corner? I know that mine was only a approximation, but I'm rather surprised that I was off by almost 30%. —The preceding comment was added by Tbp386 (talkcontribs)
Tbp386, I must say you created a very nice and detailed map which made very easier for me to edit it. Well, if you ask my opinion, I'll say to keep only the title and labels in English as we're using the map for our English edition. But I've no problem if you want to keep the title in German as well, after-all you may know better than me. And I've replaced the scale. --Saqib (talk) 12:15, 27 January 2014 (UTC)

Placencia VillageEdit

Please move it on Placencia overwriting it, but leaving a redirect from Placencia Village (a name that do not exists but used on en:voy) to Placencia (the official name). I just miss this to correct the overall situation. Thanks, --Andyrom75 (talk) 08:20, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

High clearanceEdit

Hey Saqib. To answer your question, "high-clearance" means that the distance from the ground to the bottom of the vehicle is high, so that, for example, the vehicle can pass over big rocks, etc. without hitting the bottom of the car. Texugo (talk) 15:02, 31 January 2014 (UTC)

Oh thanks for clearing that up. I was actually confused between a four-wheel drive vehicle and something like vehicle inspection/fitness. And by the way, thanks for copyediting the article. Very much appreciated. --Saqib (talk) 15:19, 31 January 2014 (UTC)

geo for a few articlesEdit

Hey Saqib, would you mind getting some geo info for the 4 Pakistan regions you created? (here: Category:Articles needing Geo parameter). Thanks! Texugo (talk) 18:14, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

Done. Thank you for letting me know about it but it's generates an error in article pages. --Saqib (talk) 19:18, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
I have no idea what was going on there, but the longitudes were off by about -360 degrees, which works on the map site but gives an error here (and in my brain). Please check to make sure I corrected them to the right positions. Texugo (talk) 19:32, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
Yes, I'm trying to fix them. --Saqib (talk) 19:32, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

Kirthar mapEdit

Hi, Saqib. I can't edit more for a while, so I just want to mention that the thumbnail map in the Kirthar National Park article is absolutely unreadable. If you can make it the same size as the default view in Commons, it will be highly readable. Right now, the map is virtually useless for anyone who prints the article without clicking on the map and printing it as a separate page. Ikan Kekek (talk) 13:57, 16 February 2014 (UTC)

RJ and SP mapsEdit

Hey Saqib! Thanks for improving these two maps. Any chance we could get some background context for them, i.e. major roads, rivers, the ocean, neighboring cities, anything that would give some context beyond just the amorphous shapes? By the way, Monterrey and Texas also have maps which similarly need to be given context and converted to WV style, if you are interested in taking those on. Thanks... Texugo (talk) 13:24, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Sure, though I'll have to look for if I could find the data for Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo and I'll do map for Monterrey and Texas right now. Cheers! --Saqib (talk) 13:31, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
Cool. And yeah, same thing for the Texas map you just added. It's better than it was, but the ideal would be for it to show the full context, with the ocean, neighboring states, important cities and roads, etc. Maryland provides an excellent example of what we're going for. Texugo (talk) 13:56, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
Sure, I'll see what I can do but later. Btw, map created for Monterrey as well. Anything else? --Saqib (talk) 14:07, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
The km/mile key on the Monterrey map appears to be way off. I'm pretty sure that southern district, for example, is close to 20 km long, by your key shows it to be around 2.5 km long. Texugo (talk) 14:30, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
Scale on Google Maps shows 5km/5mi for Monterrey. Anyway, I'm trying to fix the scales of all four maps I just created. --Saqib (talk) 14:36, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
Done. --Saqib (talk) 14:43, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Great that you added a WV style map to Rio de Janeiro (and São Paulo), however I have a little suggestion. Rio is located on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, so I'd like to see it in the map too (screenshot from the dynamic map, enlarge it until the coastline fits, "fill it with water", well you probably know how to make maps better than I :))... ϒpsilon (talk) 13:29, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Now I see Texugo already commented on that :P. ϒpsilon (talk) 13:31, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
Yes and sure, I'll do it YPSI but later. --Saqib (talk) 13:32, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Pakistan MapEdit

Hi Saqib, I'm writing you for a suggestion because I've just noticed that recently you have changed the map in the subject in terms of territories grouping.

When you make such modifications, you should create a new map (i.g. file name) instead of a revision because you provoke a discordancy impact on the other linguistic version. I've quickly patched it:voy (even if it's not perfect, but I need time to correct it in a better way), but the other versions have still this problem (take a look). --Andyrom75 (talk) 08:18, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

Ciao. You're actually right Andy. This thought didn't crossed my mind actually. --Saqib (talk) 12:03, 20 February 2014 (UTC)
No problem. It's for the next time. On it:voy I've reverted your changes (please don't be upset :-)) because Northwest Pakistan ‎is an English name (not Italian) furthermore Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is a part of it, and currently its content is in line with the title. As said above, I need more time to fix it. Currently I've other priorities, but don't worry, sooner or later I'll do it ;-) --Andyrom75 (talk) 19:44, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

WV MonastirEdit

thanks for your advice regarding the fact the galory is not allowed in WV.. could you tell why is that? --Vivaystn (talk) 23:25, 15 March 2014 (UTC)

Image galleries are usually discouraged on WV, and should only be considered for showing multiple examples of a specific topic (for example, in describing flora and fauna or cuisine—but not attractions). We aim for a minimal use of images so we insert just no more images than are necessary to make the article beautiful and informative. --Saqib (talk) 08:42, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Hi Saqib, regarding the article in the subject let me briefly know what you would like to change and I'll insert a "style alert". In the meanwhile I'll revert your three removal because at the end I think that is better some few not perfect information than nothing. Your indication will be used as a guide for any Italian editor to adjust the article in the right way. Thanks, --Andyrom75 (talk) 22:42, 20 March 2014 (UTC)
