Karachi#Get_around

Hi! Thank you for your rikscha contribution. Taxi touts are a big problem in our South Asia articles. Also Karachi has more Taxi company listings than allowed (max. nine listings). Dhaka

Hi Saqib. You seem to be fairly in-the-know regarding South Asian articles, especially Pakistan. I noticed you just district-ized Karachi. I was planning to district-ize Dhaka in Bangladesh, per the talk page, but wasn't sure if it was necessary. It's a city (by some estimates) of nearly 20 million people, so is quite similar to Karachi. From your knowledge, do you think the article should be district-ized? Hello James. Yes Dhaka is a huge city and if you're willing to fill the Dhaka district articles, you should district-ize it. I also found Guangzhou and Tehran, both huge cities as well but not yet district-ized. Thanks for the tip, I'll go ahead and split it up then. Those 2 cities definitely need a split as well; I can help with mapping if you need it. Yeah, estimates for Dhaka's population are all over the place, thanks to a lack of proper census taking. For example, I'm pretty sure most of the slum dwellers are not recorded in the census. I guess official figures put it at 14-17 million, but many international organisations and news agencies estimate more. JamesA ^>talk 04:38, 1 October 2012 (CEST)

Re:History

Hi Saqib. Are you asking why there are not many articles with a large history section? Or are you saying the history section is too long? I guess not many countries have it because most travellers don't deal with a country's history so much. They deal with the sights, attractions, activities, hotels, food, etc. The Understand section is more like a summary of the Wikipedia article. I also think it's too long. We're trying to give a brief summary to help travellers; not train them up like they are about to be tested on it. JamesA ^>talk 12:03, 1 October 2012 (CEST)

Karachi

Hi Saqib, thank you very much for the hard work at the Karachi article. It seems to move in a very good direction. Currently Karachi is at the usable level but the districtification is a big step forward to guide. The main advantage of the guide status would be that according to Wikivoyage:Article_status we could feature it as first Pakistani Destination of the Month on our Main page. I know it is a huge task that will last some time but if you would be willing we could list it as Wikivoyage:Collaboration_of_the_month and jointly get it to the level where in 2013 it could be featured. Would you be willing to lead that task? I would then try to get other pointed to that action, so efforts will faster reward. Template:Shortcut

Hi, Saqib. I noticed you created Template:Shortcut and started adding it to various pages. Our convention, per Wikivoyage:Using Mediawiki templates, is to get approval for new templates first, before creating and using them. Apart from shortcut template, yes I've created few but not several templates, such as Template:User page, Template:Busy and Template:Fromwp. Creating shortcut template without the consensus and then, start adding it to many pages was a mistake but these templates I created since then are all user namespace templates and must be available to use by users. hi, and thanks for being alert. The block for this IP was a result of a followup checkuser investigation to a spambot editing from a registered account (globally locked). Wikivoyage:Geographical hierarchy#Cities — in a nutshell, we don't see the need to fuss too much about the wording, but do have a need for consistent templates for the destination guides. I gather that Parishes are the administrative divisions of Jersey, not municipalities? If so, I would recommend handling this similar to how we divided up content on Barbados, i.e., only use a "regions" header, explain that the following divisions are known as "parishes," and try to keep the division simple, flat, and neat. Does that make sense?

Tanda is a small and rather un-touristy town in Gujrat district so wouldn't it be better if goes near to its respective article? --Saqib (talk) 20:45, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

Well, touristy or not isn't directly relevant here. I recently opened a topic about exactly that kind of cases (see the Pub), and it was explained that the current policy is that the lowest level region should contain links to every city article it contains, thus any given city should always be listed in its immediate parent region. If the list becomes too long, the region should be divided. That would be a good idea for Punjab, I think. But until someone creates such district articles, Tanda should be listed in Punjab too then. If you don't agree, feel free to discuss it further in the Pub. I would agree with you in principle, as you can see in that discussion, but it makes sense to deal with such places the same throughout Wikivoyage. If you know Punjab, it would be great if you could look into those districts further. But more in general, I suggest next time you at least explain when you revert a colleague, as it's unfriendly and not very constructive, this way ;-) Cheers, JuliasTravels (talk) 21:03, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply ;-) I was aware that Tanda is in Gujrat, but if I'm not mistaken we don't have a district article for Gujrat yet, only a city article for its capital. I saw you started a discussion about which/how many districts to use for the Punjab map. I would say whatever comes out of that discussion should also be the structure for the district-articles that should be created for Punjab. Gujrat (district) should probably be one of those ;-) I'll put a link to that Talk:Punjab_(Pakistan) in the Pub, hopefully some others will join in and we can speed up that process. Deleting Hotel Articles

These hotels have been deleted from the main Wikipedia site with everyone there, including administrators under the impression that Wikivoyage is the place for such articles? If you are telling me this is not! then this project is a waste of space and I will not waste my time contributing here. If this is the case Wikivoyage is doomed to failure, as articles on countries, resorts, places of interest can already be found in the pages of Wikipedia. Off-course, you can add hotel listings in their respective articles but you can't create an article solely for a hotel unless the hotel is so large and complex but that's very rare. --Saqib (talk) 11:24, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

To my knowledge, there is no such article at all, nor should there be. Cheeseladder, if you want to create a Hotelwiki, go ahead and propose it, and I wish you lots of luck. Wikipedia articles about places of interest are not the same as Wikivoyage articles. Whether Wikivoyage is "doomed to failure" or not won't be up to you, but having lots of individual articles on hotels certainly is not a good way for a non-commercial site to try to flourish. Sorry Ikan Keken, I didn't noticed these edits since I'm busy organising WLM in my country. I noticed all these edits as based on administrative division, which was abolished by Pakistan government after the reforms of 2000. Please see here. I don't know about others but In 2008, nine divisions of Punjab province and few divisions of Sindh province were restored again. I think it won't be bad idea if we use these old divisions to make articles hierarchy. --Saqib (talk) 08:17, 26 May 2013 (UTC)

Good luck with your efforts (what's WLM, in this case?), and thanks for the link. What about divisions that are at least partly in the Indian-administered part of Kashmir? Do you know if they currently exist? I find this whole thing very confusing. I guess what someone has to do is make up a list of the divisions and other administrative entities in Pakistan and India that IP users have created articles about, and then decide what to do with them. I am not familiar enough with Pakistan to have an easy time dealing with these, myself.

On the trail of Kipling's Kim

I am not certain how much use this article, or On the trail of Marco Polo which is also mostly my writing, will be to anyone though they might help in travel planning. I do them mostly because they are fun to write.

Panorama on White Sands National Monument

Looking over the Wikivoyage image policy, a maximum image thumbnail of 400px for the lead photo is suggested. My panorama was wider than that limit. However, it's clear from other articles that using a panorama as a pagebanner is ok. A suggestion on tact. You reverted my edit less that 10 minutes after added the page banner. My impression was that you were telling a newbie to shove off and leave this page alone. As a long time Wikipedia editor I found this rather strange behavior. The policy is to work with other editors, especially those who are new to the project. South America Regions

I have another simple request, but this time is applicable for it:voy only, because en:voy has a different division.

In it:America del Sud I've prepared a new map that highlight 4 sub-continental region. But for each one of these four regions I need an appropriate map. Without them I've just reused the en:voy map.

Your activity should be pretty easy: properly cut the image & convert into grey the country not included in each of those region.

Galapagos Islands

There are three different contents in which we can write cruises for, budget, mid range, and splurge. My company offers all three of those, if I only publish under one, how will people know that we offer the other two? That is why I published Haugan Cruises under all three. I wouldn't use the word "violated", but Wikivoyage:Deletion policy says "Other contributors can discuss whether the article or image should be deleted. Articles and images are presumed guilty until proven innocent. After fourteen (14) days of discussion, if a consensus is reached to retain an article, it won't be deleted. Otherwise it will be deleted by an administrator." In other words, if there's no consensus to keep, then the discussion should not be closed with a "keep" result. Blocks

Saqib, i just saw that you added UserJejumaster on the user ban nomination page. Blocks that are less than a day can be used without prior nomination per our policy [[4]]. Only if someone challenges that move (not the offender) then a nomination is needed. Cases like this offender works best with a couple of shorter but increasing blocks, e.g. starting with 15-30 mins, then 30-35min and then two hours. There is no perfect strategy but my experience is that frequent shorter blocks annoy marketeers more than one longer block. I will archieve your nomination. That's strange, André.

Looking at the edit history of Wikivoyage:ShareMap, I can not see any re-directs being made for it at all, and especially none by Saqib. I do see him quite properly placing the Vfd template notice there on 6 July 2013 when he nominated it for deletion.

I do see relevant information about the ShareMap website in that Wikivoyage:How_to_draw_a_map#ShareMap.org sub section - but that information has been there since before Saqib's nomination.

Perhaps Saqib's comment of 18 July 2013 that "Information has been moved " was merely meant in the helpful sense of I see that most of the relevant information in this Vfd'ed article is already present in the Wikivoyage:How_to_draw_a_map#ShareMap.org sub section. ?

PS: Changing the topic entirely, I have now added some images to Nelson (England) that should make it clearer that one currently has no commercial sleeping opportunities there and why few visitors would consider it as a travel destination. Even if one were interested in industrial or urban decay, I can think of better locations in my home city of Glasgow that do not have an article. Even if Nelson (England) escapes deletion because my objection to it remaining is discounted (I do hope it doesn't) then I'm still not going to create those strange articles about Castlemilk or Drumchapel. Listen, Saqib (and W. Frank, and anyone else who may be reading this). I know I've been making a lot of sloppy mistakes lately in my duties as an administrator. Without going into too much detail regarding my off-wiki life, my mother has breast cancer and is beginning chemotherapy treatments in two weeks, I'm putting in a ridiculous amount of hours at work, and my living room is still full of half-unpacked boxes after having moved to this apartment on June 1st because the sheer amount of stuff I have to deal with has prevented me from fully unpacking. All this stress has affected the quality of decisions I've made and the number of obvious mistakes that have flown over my head, and it's also caused me to snap at people with little provocation, as I did here, and for which I apologize to you, Saqib.

I enjoy working on articles on Wikivoyage, as it is my chance to escape from all that for a little while. But perhaps it'd be best for me to curtail my activities as an admin for a while. I don't want to have the tools taken away from me, and I may chime in from time to time on administrative issues, but I guess what's more important is for me to focus more attention on the immediate pressing issues in my off-wiki life. Again, I apologize.

Hi Saqib - one comment on the VFD that was just completed for Prq. In general unless something is obvious spam, vandalism or inappropriate content it shouldn't be deleted after just a couple of hours on the VFD page. See Wikivoyage:Deletion policy#Speedy deletion - in this case, a speedy delete might be justified under the "articles that cannot possibly ever be destinations or travel topics" provision, but if there is any doubt it is usually standard practice to solicit comments on the VFD page for a long enough period to allow the creator and any other interested parties to comment. In this case, there really may not be such a place in Mongolia and the article thus deserves to be deleted, but since there wasn't 100% certainty it would have been better to wait before actually deleting. Hopefully that makes sense - I don't want to deter you, but at the same time it's important to strike a balance between keeping the site free of garbage and allowing people to provide feedback. -- Ryan • (talk) • 16:16, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

I didn't want to go into hospital without writing clearly that Saqib did notify me of the speedy deletion, and I think that was absolutely the correct thing to do (even if it's against current policy to do that with real places {which should either have to wait indefinitely for some substantive and useful information to be added OR instead be re-directed - although it can be difficult bordering on impossible to redirect if the creator of the page did not provide sufficient information in the stupid stub to even know with certainty where it is}.

I created Prq (spelling varies depending on the transliteration system one is using and other alternative spellings are better known in Russian or Mandarin) purely to illustrate (in another VFD discussion about Nelson) the deficiencies in making it so easy for "drive-by" editors to create one click, one line "articles" with one click skeleton creation templates that automatically grade the subsequent useless stub as an "Outline" article.

Both you, Ryan, and Saqib are correct in this instance (except that, my understanding of current policy is, you should always wait a minimum of 14 days before closing a deletion of anything other than a "speedy delete" and not just "a few days" { - when I come out of hospital next week, I'll want to comment more on the Vfd for Nelson}).

Hi Andy, thanks for your concerns and well wishes. Yes, it was a really serious accident, I got spinal fractures and a fracture on foot. Doctors recommended strict bed rest for few weeks. Contact Us

Can you provide some background on what the new "contact us" link is meant to be? In general if someone has a question they should be using the pub or a talk page, so I'm not sure we should be advertising an email address, and especially not in the left nav. Do you know who answers those emails? I have a comment about your recent addition to the Discover section. The fun facts in the Discover section need to be present in the article linked to from the Discover section. Now the Bihar article doesn't mention the village Pakistan and Purnia doesn't even have an article. A while ago you added a fact about an island near Gwadar and afterwards I added that fact to the Gwadar article because it wasn't there. The whole idea about Discover is to get the reader interested in the articles behind the links, like "Did you know" on Wikipedia's main page. Brazil maps

Hi Saqib. Thanks for expressing interest in helping with Brazil maps. Now we have all the top level division maps. I have been trying to get state maps going, and have covered the states in the South and Southwest regions. States in the other regions have not all been clearly subdivided, but if you want to help, you might start with Bahia, which has a basic map of the regions to start from, and Ceará and Pernambuco, which both have suggested regional breakdowns on their talk pages. I see you've started maps for Bahia and Pernambuco - thanks! They will both need a little further editing to add roads and cities etc., of course, so I'd like to ask you to, if possible, follow the layered approach set out at Wikivoyage:How_to_draw_a_map, so that these are easier to edit collaboratively and easier to make alternate language versions for. Also note that we do not directly use the svg files in our articles - the svg files will ultimately contain various language layers, so you need to export a png with the english layer for use here. Plus, the svgs generally screw up the fonts if you use them directly anyway. I went ahead and did a png for Bahia and Pernambuco, though I haven't split the svg file into the standard layers... Attribution

Hi, I saw you moving Mohenjo-daro to try and lose the WT attribution. I think in this case it can be solved by deleting the article, and restoring everything without that 1 edit at WT (with the check-boxes when you restore). This doesn't really work when there's more text from before the move, because all of the info is then attributed to the first editor after the move, but in this case it doesn't matter as there was nothing before you expanded it. Jacksonville clean up

I've made a few edits to the Jacksonville page recently, only to find out that my work was reverted. You left no explanation as to why the edits were not acceptable. I just want to improve upon the cities travel page. My good will edits take time and effort, it seems a little unfair someone can come I and block that good will for not apparent reason. If I can interject, Saqib did give an explanation in an edit summary. He reverted edits by you for copyright violation. I haven't checked this out myself, but that was the explanation — "copyvio." As for his latest reversion, I find it incorrect and will revert it. Jacksoville.com is the website of the Florida Times-Union newspaper's website, whereas visitjacksonville is the website of the Jacksonville CVB, an official organization. In my defense, I think using a template to fill in your own cities information is not a copy violation. Jacksonville roughly had the same perimeters as Atlanta when it came to districts. I reworded every bit of it. As far as Jacksonville.com goes, coj.net is the cities website, but if you look at other cities link Chicago it uses it's tourism boards website as the main like. I don't think local news of city government are the best fit for this link. Visitjacksonville.com will have the most useful info. I didn't see a change to coj.net anyway. User box templates

Saqib,

Aloha! First, thank you for the welcome on my talk page.

Regarding User boxes, users should have the ability to identify where they are living or where they come from. The User box templates are identical in name to what is in Wikipedia. For an example as to what they are supposed to look like can be found on my Wikipedia user page: w:User:Peaceray.

I think that the experimental warning template should be place in the /doc page for these templates. Right now that warning is totally wrecking the display of the templates, which means functioning templates have been rendered unusable by the warning.

One item that I realized that I need to fix is changes to the names of Categories. I think that any Category on these templates that starts with Wikipedian should be changed to Wikivoyager. What do you think?

First, Userboxes are an accepted practice on other Wikiprojects. Eventually, there will be a demand for them on Wikivoyage, as well.

Listing where an editor lives or from where s/he originated lets readers know that an editor has the opinion of someone local. For instance, I live in Hawaiʻi, so that might inform a reader's or another editor's perception of my editsabout Kailua, Hawaiʻi, should they decide to look at my user page and see that I reside in the area.

Okay, I get the point. I will move these User box Templates to User:Peaceray/sandbox/ & eventually follow up at Travellers' pub.

I am not used to this much scrutiny about introducing new Templates, but Wikivoyage is a relatively new project & this does represent a lot of new Templates. And, although I concentrate on en.wikipedia, I do edit in a lot of different wikiprojects (User contributions when it can connect to centralauth database, or global user contributions beta).

Personally, I think that User in & User from templates are on par with the templates at Wikivoyage:Babel. Understanding an editor's from where an editor originated or where s/he resides is probably at least as important as what language that editor speaks.

Hi Saqib, thank you for your patience in redrawing the Vienna map! I must say though that at first I found the two-map solution confusing. Do you think for the second map Inner Vienna could remain a single color (yellow to match the first map), with the districts simply numbered, as has been done in Paris and in the German Vienna article?

If we number the inner districts I'm not sure whether it makes sense to continue to label the others Outer West, etc.; however 14/15/16/17/18/19 is equally awkward…

Re: Inner East (Leopoldstadt/Brigittenau), I can't speak for Axisstroke, but currently we have only one listing for Brigittenau and everything else is in Leopoldstadt, so it might be premature to break them up just yet.

Hey Stellar, I'm sorry that you found the maps rather confusing, but actually they were inspired by the maps of Tokyo. As for Paris map, first of all, the map is not proper WV-styled and second, Paris is divided into arrondissements and those arrondissements are named as numbers and it makes sense to put numbers on the map, whereas, districts of Vienna have their own names and according to my knowledge, the districts of Vienna are more known by their names as compare to numbers so I would strongly suggest to not put numbers on Vienna maps. Hello Saqib, Thank you for your work! The district split of Vienna is indeed work in progress, with 3-9 on their own pages, there is more than enough work to do to properly fill them. Concerning the numbers they are better known in Vienna as the names of the districts due to several reasons: 1) they reflect the postal code 2) they are written on the street names before the actual street 3) they are shorter. Much more often a Viennese would say let's meet in the 4th district than meet in Wieden. (I'd even assert that some Viennese may not be able to actualy name the corresponding district for each number). I don't have a strong opinon on the map split, what I'd like to have is the listing of the inner district moved up, so that visitors find those first. Mosques in Buffalo

Saqib, I saw what you said on Buffalo/North Buffalo regarding there not being any mosques listen in the "Places of worship" subsections of any of the Buffalo district articles I'd written thus far. Though I know you'd since deleted your comments, I hope you know that the only reason for that is there are no mosques in downtown, Allentown, the Delaware District, the Elmwood Village, or North Buffalo.

I'm not religious myself, so I don't feel any vested interest in treating one religion preferentially over another. And, as I mentioned on the Travellers' Pub (see my comment timestamped 00:27, 15 November 2013), I agree that it's very important to address the fact that there are major world religions like Islam that don't have very many adherents or houses of worship in Buffalo.

In the Buffalo parent article, under the "Places of worship" subheading it's mentioned that there are large mosques in the suburbs of Lackawanna and Amherst, as well as several on the East Side. When those articles are filled out, I plan on listing those places. Also, there is a small mosque located in the district article I'm currently working on.

"I HATE DYNAMIC MAPS"

Why? There are some advantages to a dynamic map of an itinerary of this size: namely, you can zoom in to see the towns where the missions are located. Based on the the large amount of work that would be required, I hereby retract the suggestion to make every guide article non-dynamic. I still feel a static map should be an aspirational (rather than definite) target for a Guide article however.

Recently I have been working with Ludwigsburg and the Dynamic map actually looks OK, and probably good enough for a Guide article. The corresponding map for Lamma island that I have been working with looks awful, and I will probably replace with a fixed map in the near future. 48 states

I just reverted an edit of yours on Karakoram Highway; you took out "48" in "the 48 contiguous United States" and I restored it. The US has 50 states but two, Alaska and Hawaii, have no border with any of the others. The remaining 48 are colloquially the "lower 48" (usually without the word "states"), but I thought the 48 contiguous United States" was clearer. I guess it wasn't; I think I will make it "the 48 contiguous US states". Or can you suggest something better?

As an aside, part of Canada is between Alaska and the lower 48. East & West Pakistan with India between used to be a similar case. Are there, or have there been, other similar cases? Pashley (talk) 23:02, 18 November 2013 (UTC)

I don't want to challenge the oversight thing, but I still do not understand the connection between the oversight policy saying "Edits containing private information can be oversighted" and your warning that puts Saqib's action as a serious guilt. Moreover, only the individual whose private information was disclosed can say whether it was a harassment. Otherwise, it looks like secret police hunting for people and charging them for a very minor offense. We often use names here, and I can easily imagine myself being accused in the same way, because I am sometimes using real names that were not officially made public on this wiki. But should we care about that as long as everyone is happy?

By the way, if we consider it very strictly, Wikivoyage does not have a policy saying that disclosing private information is a harassment. @Atsirlin: Saqib deliberately posted information about Tony1's life outside of Wikimedia in a discussion, in order to link the two identities together. That is harassment, plain and simple; I don't give a crap about what the policies say. Most wikis do not have an explicitly written down policy on harassment (ie:wikt anyone?) or even vandalism, and yet that doesn't mean that we have to plug our ears whenever it happens.

I am not willing to be an administrator on any Wikimedia site that takes such a negative attitude towards protecting the right of its individuals to voluntarily choose what they decide to make public, especially considering that I cannot risk being associated with anything violating such a user's right to privacy as a Wikidata oversighter. Furthermore, I know of plenty of people who have been harassed in real life for their actions on Wikimedia sites, and I want to know that this site will do whatever it can to protect me if someone decides to reveal my personal information here. I find it strange that very serious actions are proposed on the basis on a non-written policy that I do not even understand. Apparently, Saqib did not hack Wikimedia servers and did not get any private information from there. I assume that he made a web search and found some open, public information: "Because You Made It Public", as the new global policy says. If you worry about your identity, make sure that the information about your life outside Wikimedia can not be connected to your life within Wikimedia. It is your task, I suppose.

Just to give you a counter-example: my full name is very easy to figure out. Then, after filtering some namesakes, you can easily find who I am and what I am doing. My location is probably more difficult to figure out, because I am traveling nearly half of my time, but anyway... I don't mind anyone posting all this information on wiki. I really don't care, because I have nothing to hide.

Altogether, I don't think that Saqib did a smart thing here, but I would like to see a very clear explanation of what can be posted on wiki and what not. So far it is not obvious at all. What to say. I agree with User:Rschen7754 that users here have a right to privacy should they wish to maintain it, and I guess it flows from that what Saqib did was clearly wrong. However the possible resignation as an admin should not determine our next course of action, which should be done with the best interests of our site and all our users in mind. I guess that also means we also shouldn't take into account that Saqib has been one of our best contributors. However, perhaps we can take into account that Saqib has apologised, and realised what he did was wrong, and taken some steps to clean up the mess?

I think we can also take into account that the admin position here at WV (in contrast to WP) is still one where tools are given to those who will use them to simplify operations. It has a different role to WP.

Administrators do have access to (rev)deleted content, which can sometimes have sensitive material, though oversight is typically used to get the sensitive material. en.wikipedia would have blocked and desysopped right away. But in my mind, while I think Saqib knew what he was doing was suboptimal, I don't think he understood the gravity of the situation.

The sequence of events was: Saqib posted the links; I emailed Saqib; Saqib reverted his edit; then Rschen7754 commented on Saqib's page and the edit was oversighted. Using blocks as punishment (rather than prevention) would get a short shift on WP and don't support punishing Saqib in that way. Would like to say more, but that's all I have time for right now. Saqib - I very much hope that we don't lose you as a contributor here over this latest incident, but I also believe that, given the seriousness of this particular incident, removal of admin rights needs to be discussed. Officially Wikivoyage:Administrators#Ending administrator privileges states that a nomination should be held to consider whether admin rights should be revoked, but I also recognize that you meant no harm and I don't want to escalate this situation unnecessarily. Mohenjo-daro

As you know, both you & I are working on that article. I find the earlier work you did getting it up to guide exemplary and most of your recent edits good as well. Bravo!

However, there is a problem. I am trying to write straightforward and coherent narrative for the Understand section, of course using various WP pages as a reference but rewriting much of it, adding links to other WV articles like Harappa and quite deliberately omitting WP stuff I don't think we need here, especially since we link to the WP article anyway. Having you drop a large chunk of unedited WP text into the middle of that makes me want to scream and to immediately remove that addition.

Can you hold off a few days until I'm done with my version? Once it is coherent & complete by my lights, by all means take a look and make additions if you then think it needs some. Well, I'm quite surprised. How "Northern Areas" and "North West Frontier Province" ‎can be useless when they both are former official names and "Northern Areas" is still comonly used term for "Gilgit–Baltistan". As compare to Northern Areas (Pakistan)" and Federally Administered Northern Areas, I'm sure "Northern Areas" is a most used search term. "Azad Jammu and Kashmir" is the official name of "Azad Kashmir", while "Pakistan-administered Kashmir" is also a somewhat commonly used term. "Gilgit Baltistan" is popular search term as compare to "Gilgit-Baltistan". But yes "Etiquette in Pakistan" is useless. Reverted edits

You reverted some in Abbottabad and asked "what's this?". The symbol "nbsp" is a non-breaking space; it prevents ending up with the number & unit on different lines. There's discussion somewhere and we certainly have some users who think "10 km" with that is preferable to "10 km" with an ordinary space or "10km" with none. It may even be policy. As you just experimented on the main page, I got an idea (don't need to take it seriously)... Our logo has a red arrow pointing pretty much upwards. Bend it a bit, add a little white tuft at the top and we've got Santa Claus' cap! Two things

Thanks for helping take care of the recent spate of anonymous IP vandalism. However, w:Wikipedia:Do not insult the vandals is something you might want to familiarize yourself with going forward. Specifically, you expressed frustration and anger with the vandal in some of your edit summaries (e.g. this one and this one). While totally understandable, this feeds into the vandal's desire for attention and recognition and tends to inspire further vandalism.

On a completely different subject, thanks for adding a pagebanner to Buffalo/Elmwood Village a while back. I had a great idea for a pagebanner (this place), but as you can see it's currently under major construction. I think the banner you've chosen is perfect for the interim, and I agree that the page looked incomplete without one.

Wikivoyage:Tourist Office#Passport validity requirement and alternate forms of ID in European Union (Schengen) countries

Hi Saqib. I do know your intentions are good, but I would kindly urge you to be cautious when giving advise on such important matters as passports and travel in areas you don't know too well. Especially on an IRC chat when others cannot correct you when you're wrong. Your statement that travelling inside the EU with and expired EU passport would be fine, is really not true. Sure, one may get lucky (especially when travelling over land and not being checked), but while most regulations are European ones, EU countries handle them in different ways and various degrees of strictness. Air travel is particularly tight in most Northern European countries. You might get someone into trouble by just saying something like that. Of course, a European ID card (that's a particular document) is just as valid as a passport, and for EU citizens to travel within the EEA and Switzerland, either one is fine. It's smaller (so fits in your wallet) and cheaper than a passport, and therefor preferred by many people who don't have to travel outside the EU. I own both, for example, using the ID card for European travels and my passport only when I go further. However, that has nothing to do with the question in the tourist office, as the user explicitly states he does not own a Polish ID card. A driver's licence of US Green card is not an ID card. Also, in Schengen there are no daily border controls anymore (so indeed you are usually not checked at the border), but you are still obliged to carry a valid ID at all times and will need it in several cases and if anything happens. Although one might surely be lucky and not need it anywhere, we should (imho) never advise to travel through Europe without a valid ID. Also, (in the case of the tourist office question) international air travel in Europe in principle always requires a valid ID card or passport. Thanks Saqib. If possible, could you add the following amendements on the map?

1. Keep the original color (the first three have a sort of meaning)
2. Keep the border of the region itself (Lombardia) and of the surrounding regions/countries
3. Keep the border of the provinces
4. Keep the existing cities position/label

Changing the sub-region colours back to original and restoring the provincial boundaries will take a lot of time because I'll have to re-draw the map again. Come back. There's a misunderstanding. The lake that are totally innternally the region, shouldn't have the border. While on the others the border it's not around the lake, but it should be where the border of the region is. (tipically inside the lake). To visualize what I mean, take a look to these pictures (one per lake): first (just the lake on the left), second (just the lake on the left) and third (just the lake on the right). Don't worry if the border are not perfect, the important is that they pass inside and not around the lake. Just one minor thing, plese put the label "Como" below the point (not above). Thank for the Arco alpino lombardo map. Few notes:

1. In the top-right there's an external border that when it reach the region it twist with another line. The same thing happen in the Lombardia map, but here is more visible because the map is zoomed. Could you correct it?
2. Try to position all the label (when possible) over a continuous background (e.g. Breno to the left, Edolo to the right, etc... for Chiaverna that is too long put it over the purple & blue background without touching the border: this will increase the readibility).
3. Add the legend in the left bottom corner
4. Adjust the color code in the template

Milan map

I think it would be useful to have the highways around the city center, railways, and Linate airport added to the map. Page North-West

Fixed some double-redirects to Sarhad that link to page North-West... Would it be better to rename page North-West to Northwest Pakistan and fix links accordingly? North-West could possibly be a reference for a geographical region anywhere in the world... ie. Pacific Northwest etc. Just a thought - otherwise its ok as is... Northwest Pakistan is fine. In my Canadian dialect, "Northwest" is strongly preferred over the hyphenated form; I suspect other dialects may prefer the hyphen, but I am not sure which.

"Northwest" is a fairly important term in Canadian history. We have a region called the Northwest Territories and our W:RCMP mounted police were originally the Northwest Mounted Rifles, patterned on regiments in the Raj; they changed it to Northwest Mounted Police to avoid upsetting the Americans too much. That seems unconventional and a bit confusing, actually. Now the article name is Northwest Pakistan, the name you see (in the banner) is "North-West" and the articles starts with "Northwest Frontier is the region in the north-west of Pakistan". Map of Munich

Dear Saqib,

I noticed you have created some rather brilliant regional and city-level maps of recent, and I can only say you are a real pro at that. I was wondering if you could help us with the Munich article which we have redistrictified (namely, merged four former districts into one) by lending out your mapmaking skills. There have been a few users who have offered to make the map and none of them apparently had the time to follow up on that, so we are now left with a map that does not match the structure of the articles.

Let me outline some hints as to what needs to be done in hope you will consider taking up the challenge. If not, there will at least be a to-do list that I can of course remove from your talk page at your wish and use elsewhere:

• The SVG for the current map is here
• Basically, the districts of Schwabing, Neuhausen-Nymphenburg and Olympic area need to be merged into North
• The little yellow part of City Center protruding to the north over the white line of Prinzregentenstrasse, to the east of the green park (Englischer Garten) should be added to the North as well
• The other districts should stay as they are
• I believe colours could now be rearranged as the ones used for the three districts that we merged into North will be freed. I guess light green is not a bad choice for North
• The railway station descriptions should stay, but I guess could be placed better not to clash with the background
• If possible, it would be good to mark the location of 1 Neue Messe in Riem, either as a point or as the general area - the whole gray complex of interconnected buildings on the OSM Map is the Messe area. "Neue Messe" is the current fairgrounds area in Munich, one of the most important for Germany and reason for many visitors to come to Munich.
• Another area of similar importance is the 2 Theresienwiese, where the Oktoberfest takes places. It is the vaguely jellybean-shaped green area on the OSM Map.
• Last but not least, following our discussion concerning Milan, I guess it would be good to mark the location of the airport (some 40 kms northeast of the city) with an arrow, icon and description to help people understand the geographic placement of it vs. the city.
• You will also probably notice some minor graphic glitches on the map (title not fitting the frame etc.) which you may find appropriate to rectify

Thank you in advance for taking a look at that and letting me know if you would consider devoting your precious time for that. I know I am being borderline pushy here, so please do mark that down to proactiveness rather than lack of manners, as I consider this task important and overdue, and guess I still need much more time to even get started at making SVG maps.

This is why PrinceGloria said that the airport should be handled in the same way as suggested in Talk:Milan#No_need_to_rush_with_the_map - because both Milan's and Munich's airports in the countryside, quite far away. Thank you for editing the map - I was supposed to do it myself, but then totally forgot about it. Two things, though: wouldn't it be better to keep the original German name "München" in the map as well, as e.g. there are no road signs indicating "Munich". And did you measure the scale in the lower left corner? Well, if you ask my opinion, I'll say to keep only the title and labels in English as we're using the map for our English edition. High clearance

Hey Saqib. To answer your question, "high-clearance" means that the distance from the ground to the bottom of the vehicle is high, so that, for example, the vehicle can pass over big rocks, etc. without hitting the bottom of the car. Texugo (talk) 15:02, 31 January 2014 (UTC)

Kirthar map

Hi, Saqib. I can't edit more for a while, so I just want to mention that the thumbnail map in the Kirthar National Park article is absolutely unreadable. If you can make it the same size as the default view in Commons, it will be highly readable. The km/mile key on the Monterrey map appears to be way off. I'm pretty sure that southern district, for example, is close to 20 km long, by your key shows it to be around 2.5 km long. Texugo (talk) 14:30, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi Saqib, I'm writing you for a suggestion because I've just noticed that recently you have changed the map in the subject in terms of territories grouping.

When you make such modifications, you should create a new map (i.g. file name) instead of a revision because you provoke a discordancy impact on the other linguistic version. Image galleries are usually discouraged on WV, and should only be considered for showing multiple examples of a specific topic (for example, in describing flora and fauna or cuisine—but not attractions).
